guilty pleasure

guilty pleasure

What is everyone's guilty pleasure band/singer?? One that you love listening to by yourself but will never admit to the world that you enjoy them.

Kommentare for this Board Topic

I'd tell you, but I can't admit it to the world. Eye-wink

Biz Markie.... "Ohhh baby you, you got what I neeeeeeeeed."

Neil Diamond...... "Forever in Blue Jeans"

you'll never get it out of me! NevaaaaaaahhH!! lol.

Nah, i'm a BIG music person.. since i was really young. mom had tons of 45's and 33's of everything from Beatles to Hendrix, sinatra to dionne warwick, to Ricky Nelson. And the stepdad had tons of 8tracks of Deep purple, to alice cooper, to elton john. So i REALLY became diverse and appreciative of all types of music. so, i've got no "guilty pleasures" in music.

"you're the words... in a song.. that Hoon sang to me...."

Wow, now I'm definitely not saying if people think Biz Markie and Neil Diamond are "guilty" pleasures.....

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did borrow from?

I love Barry Manilow...THERE, I SAID IT!! Just listen to the song "Weekend in New England" and tell me he isn't a beautiful songwriter with a beautiful voice!

Barry Manilow is definitely guilty. He always has this "sound of music" look on his face when he's performing. I also have some Spin Doctors on my itunes. There's nothing respectable about that, but I still like "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong". It takes me back to middle school.

Berry Manilow was at a party once when Bob Dylan walked up to him and said ‘Man I really dig your songs” Manilow said he was stunned and spent the next few days trying to decide if Dylan had been serious or putting him on. I always thought it was so funny that his hit I Write The Songs was not written by him.

My guilty pleasure...The Ting Tings!

Me too, dude. Sometimes music should just be for fun. I love it when a band can't help but make pop music.

If you like the Ting Tings, then you should check out The Kills which are to post-punk what the Ting Tings are to post-pop. Good stuff.

A quick scan through my itunes list and I'd say my guilty pleasures consist of Dr Dre's the chronic album, Erykah Badu's Baduism album, and A Perfect Circle.

happy's not the word, you make me free...

Dawnie, I know you have something more girly than that on there. C'mon, give us the good stuff.

No guilt, no shame, when I need to hear ELO, I crank it up, loud & proud!

haha @ footstompin! Should I feel guilty about diggin' Jewels "Pieces of You"? You shouldn't feel too bad about the spin doctors considering I stole your small collection last time we traded.

happy's not the word, you make me free...

Dawnie...Not at all. Jewel is raw at her roots. Before she became Diva, we adored her first CD at the college radio station. It was very folksy, real talent. She lost me somewhere after that, though.

Poison. *backs up slowly, hoping no one notices what she just said*

Thanks anjanette! I agree... once she sold out I gave up on her.

That Dylan story is actually kind of funny because Manilow knew that he was not even in the same league as Dylan as a songwriter so how could the king of poetic songwriting be complimenting him. ...The melodies are what he is good at not the lyrics...oh and incodentally, I don't really like " I write the songs" It is ironic, though.

Gorillaz. I can't figure out if Damon is a genius or a huckster, but I can't resist the Gorillaz CDs or even the dubbed (even MORE dub than the Gorillaz original versions) version of the first album they did under the monicker Space Monkeys.

Watch this movie and see what I mean.

Shortatry, I'm right there with you with Taylor Swift. Other embarrassing iTunes contents may or may not include: Eminem, Avril Lavigne, and The Fray. Don't judge.

I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.

Dawnie... you will find Jewel's "Pieces of You" on my i-tunes. I'm with Anjanette on that one. I can't do the entire album though, a little too "girl in her bedroom writing in her diary" for me.

ELO?? what's wrong with you guys! i will never be embarrassed of my love for ELO. "strange magic" was the first favorite song that i can remember...maybe 3 years old? that and "coward of the county", which i think DOES fit into this embarrassing category (cuz i still love it).

other must-roll-car-window-up choices for me are ABBA, pink, and various showtunes. thaaaat's right, showtunes. there's more, but those are the only ones i'm willing to admit here.

and i am ALSO not ashamed of my affinity for huey. feel the power of love, guys.

Anytime I hear Huey Lewis and the news... I feel like I'm 5 years old and watching Back to the Future. Needless to say, I love that feeling.

ABBA and ELO!! love them both!

ummmm.........we need a tiny font option.....humiliating....(then again, if someone can admit Avril Lavigne..hehehe)

Michael Buble...there, I said it. You gotta admit the man's voice is as smooth as butter. My family mocks me incessantly for having one of his CD's.

Please don't ostracize me. Eye-wink

Things change and get strange with the movement of time.
It's happening right now to you.

If the Beatles were from Appalachia instead of Liverpool, they might sound like the Avett Brothers – they were that good.

I honestly can't believe folks feel guilty for enjoying ELO. You really shouldn't and it reminds me I don't have enough of them myself.

Today's unguilty pleasures: Slade & Status Quo. Time to put on my platforms & stomp about the house!

Under the Influence of Giants! What a fun album that you just can't help but wanna dance to! Mostly any 80's tune...what can I say I was rendered in the era of jelly shoes and NKOTB.

Not to get off subject, but can somebody please explain to me what exactly jelly shoes are? I have never understood what Scott is talking about in that line of Denouncing November Blue.

And now I feel really young...
