The following is a link to a facebook group set up specifically to humiliate one of my students. I've had friends on FB report it all day, but the more that do it, maybe the sooner it will get taken down?

Yes, but, the name is not a real one, and until someone brags and slips up, we're at a dead end about who posted it. The good, and rather encouraging thing is that I got lots of reports on the group this morning from students who received invites to the group last night- but no one joined.
Makes me have a little more faith in my turkeys than I had before... a little positive out of all this, I guess.
Policy gets sticky though when school isn't mentioned in any posts. But, hopefully, my administration is on it. Lord knows I'M ON IT.

Thanks, everyone! It's still up, and I'm beginning to get a little angry with FB about it, but, I'll keep asking folks to help as long as it's in exsistence. He's a great kid who puts up with entirely more than he should- and he's amazing about all of it.

It makes me angry too that they let things go so far when everyone has been made aware of the issue. There have been too many instances lately in the news where someone ends up dying because of bullying when it is very preventable. FB needs to step up in my opinion to stop these sorts of things before they go too far. Thanks for putting it in the spotlight Katie!!
reported. i tried to report it again today and fb won't let you. only 1 report/ person. that's bulls*** IMO. if fb is going to be so slow to take the page off, i would think that they should let you at least report it once /day. every minute that page sits up there, is another minute of hell that boy is going through.

If you go to the Wall for this group, there is one stupid comment by its creator (and only member?). From there you can file another complaint. I sent this message.
"Come on Facebook, get with it!!! This is an attack on a teenager. If this turns into a lawsuit, there will be many, many witnesses to testify that you left this up for DAYS after it was brought to your attention."
Legal action. That's what puts the fear of God into faceless corporations. Katie, I forgot what grade you taught, so the "teenager" thing was a guess.

Reported--can't believe 3 days later it is still up. insane and sad. glad you are there to support the kid who is targeted and I'm glad no one else joined--hope it's not b/c they are afraid of getting caught, and that at least some of them didn't join b/c they know it's wrong.

Reported as well, I also teach high school students (Special Ed) and am scared for my students on a daily basis that something like this will happen to them. Thank goodness your student has you as a teacher! But again, sad that this is still up!

My daughter had been a victim of a bad bullying situation in high school that required my intervention, and getting teachers to take a stand is not always easy. I guess unless they can prove it happened during a school sponsored event or in school their hands are somewhat tied.

I reported the group as well. Pretty shocked that the group is still in operation, but I echo everyone when I say that you must be a fantastic teacher.

Absolutely horrible. Reported on three counts. I hope this gets taken down quickly and I thank you for enlisting our help and supporting your student. What makes me sad is the fact that there are plenty more groups out there like this.

Parents really need to pay attention to what their children are doing. That is why it's called parenting. Get your head out of the clouds people. Facebook needs to really take heed too!

Hahaha! I was trying so hard to not laugh at the person I was on the phone with when I read this. I really love this idea, but I'm not sure if we'll have success fighting fire with fire on this one. I would probably join, however.

i reported the comments yesterday and gave facebook a piece of my mind. basically told them that if i put up a page defaming their name and used the language that was in this page...they would be on me like flies on s***!
also posed the question of what exactly the 'report' option was for, if they aren't going to respond when i KNOW there have been MANY complaints.

I can't believe this group is still alive on FB. Their privacy reporting is either a total sham or they get so many requests they can't keep up. Possibly both, sadly. I found this by hunting around a bit, but it just seems to recommend the same "click the Report link" method of action...which hasn't done a thing?!?
