The Belk is in downtown Charlotte and it being NYE it will be tough enough to find a parking spot. You may end up in a parking garage. The situation would not be conducive to tailgating. That said there are plenty of restaurants and bars within a block or two of the theater. Downtown Charlotte was a ZOO last year. I was amazed at the crowd when we exited the theater. If you want to hang around for a party you would be in the right place. I made a b-line to my car and escaped as fast as I could.

They most certainly played past midnight last year. I'm curious how the show on the 30th is going to play out. Can't wait, really!
It'll be weird not spending my New Year's at THE concert, but after years of Avett shows on NYE, I decided it was time to do something with my large group friends. The ones I can never convince the concert is the place to be...
Taking the light rail might be a good idea. First Night Charlotte will also be happening that evening all over Uptown. Be aware, though, that the last train leaves 7th Street Station at 1:00 am. They really need to fix that.
yeah downtown Charlotte is a tough place to get out of around 2:00 am on New Years.... cabs are extremely hard to come by, just gotta keep your eye out.... I wouldn't be doing too much tailgating there either.... but as said before, there are plenty of places to hang out / drink around ther... only problem is that any big bar you go into is going to have a very steep cover charge....
