If you could choose 1 band to open up for the Avetts in 2012 who would it be?
I would love to see Yonder Mountain String Band team up with them, Saw them last night in Pittsburgh and they just kicked ass. I think they would be a great fit. My second choice would be Slayer. Cuz that's how I roll.

The Apache Relay or Trampled by Turtles would be nice. The United States are nice live.
Definitely TBT! Close second would be Infamous Stringdusters
I would love to see Deer Tick perform with them or better yet John J. McCauley III of Deer Tick, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit a.k.a. Middle Brother should get together and do a summer tour with them.
I wouldn't mind seeing Uncle Mountain. They come from Boone, NC and are pretty good live. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eJkb2AQwGY
Also, River Whyless (formerly Do it to Julia) would be pretty awesome too. Another band from Boone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iUcke7is1U
It would be cool to see two other local bands get a big opportunity like this.
Sean Hayes would be awesome, or The Steep Canyon Rangers w/ Steve Martin. Or how about a seasoned musician like Jim Avett !?!
oh I dont know...how about HGTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would kill for TBT to be their opener. I also like River Whyless (saw them live and they were great--the violin player kicks a**). I'd also love to see The Honeycutters--another NC-based band with a fantastic female lead singer. They also record at Echo Mountain and I keep hoping TAB will discover them.
The Gunsmoke Suns.

At least no one's suggested Mumford yet. YET.
How about Bird Dog or Slow Motion Cowboys?
I think the Avett Brothers should open for Mumford and Sons. It would help their career to open for a big group like Mumford...

A guy can dream, can't he?
I knew it was coming.
we get it already. a lot of you out there don't like mumford. but do you have to find every opportunity to voice it on these boards? I'm a huge TAB AND mumford fan. I've seen both in concert numerous times and they are both great but way way greater live. The mumford & sons guys are also HUGE fans of TAB and have openly expressed how much they adore them (last time i went to a concert marcus said in the concert that they were going to play a song by one of their favorite bands ever-TAB). They're both VERY different and they both love and appreciate what the others are doing. You don't have to like them both and it doesn't make you any less loyal if you do, but it's not a rivalry so I don't see why each sides' fans sometimes like to make it one. *sad sigh*
To answer the question though I'd like to see the sleepy man banjo boys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKofhkgk7h8
or the devil makes three
I like MaS. they just come up, somehow or another, with vehement opinions expressed, a LOT. it just gets awfully repetitive, no?
I don't know about y'all, but I can't tell whether anyone else on this thread likes them or not. well, rr likes them. so do I.
another vote for TbT. They definitely have a strong fanbase, they're a great fit, and I think both bands would benefit from the mutual exposure.
Shovels & Rope
@rr - The love in evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX9LTQtIOtc&feature=share
but devil makes three is a great suggestion
Amos Lee.
I'm not sure it would work, but I too love Amos Lee.
Only one choice for me for a band that hasn't played yet with TAB and is in a reasonable position to do so. HGTR
And Mumford haters (not those who simply don't get the music) are ignorant.
The Deep Dark Woods: http://thedeepdarkwoods.com/wp/
Who said anything about hating Mumford? Agree with chillix here...they always come up in these discussions.
Good Old War
I'd love to see Devil Makes Three - Shovels and Rope are a good choice, too - saw them open for Justin Townes Earle, and was pleasantly surprised. Wouldn't mind Langhorne Slim, either...
I'd love to see The David Wax Museum, Middle Brother and the Avetts on the same bill....
American label mates, and strange bedfellows...
Slayer.
Make it happen, Mr. Ruben.
I'm gonna have to throw a vote in for Slayer, too.
And then I'll vote my heart: Pokey LaFarge & The South City Three
Here's their NPR Tiny Desk Concert if you're unfamiliar with them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seKAfbWFWCM
Would also like to see The Civil Wars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd7dS6s7kJc
NEMO!!!
Good call on Shovels & Rope! Cary Ann Hearst's solo stuff is also good. Cool Waylon cover:

Devil makes three
Truth and salvage co
Blind Pilot
Young the Giant...great new band. Really do not sound anything like TAB but if TAB can tour with Social Distortion, they can tour with these guys.
Can two shows where each opened for the other be called a tour?
The Civil Wars
Langhorne Slim or G Love.
@cmw1215....that was my second choice...awesome.
Trampled By Turtles would be a solid choice but then if we lived in dreamland it would be TAB and Ben Harper alternating opening slots.
Dawes is from my hometown, so I gotta give up some love for those guys....
Langhorne Slim, Todd Snider, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Old Crow Medicine Show, American Aquarium, Trampled By Turtles,
Langhorne Slim, G-love, middle brother, dear tick
Deer Tick would be awesome, but I would settle for Middle Brother too ha!
...John McCauley may be a little too party time for the boys though...at the least keep them separated backstage.
i think The Head And The Heart would be an awesome opening! Their harmonies are amazing.....but i'd love to see Trampled by Turtles or HGTR too.
Middle Brother, Dawes, Langhorne, The Head and the Heart, and ... Johnny Prine (wish wish)
The Low Anthem
Deer Tick
TBT
The Head and The Heart
River City Extension
Any of those would be awesome!
Either TBT or The Head And The Heart would be great.
