My online dictionary has two definitions for "critic". (1) a person who expresses an unfavorable opinion of something and (2) a person who judges the merits of literary, artistic or musical works, esp. one who does so professionally.
Looks like Chris Richards fancies himself a (1)...

Ugh… gah D.C., makes me glad I'm headed for the hills and getting out of this area soon! Sure it's just one guy's opinion, but I get that feeling, that honest, heartfelt things aren't always appreciated around here. Maybe its just me that feels that way. Perhaps thats the case in a lot of cities around the country.
Me and the 4 people I was with completely enjoyed the show, and only 2 of us had ever seen the guys before. Avetts just aren't this writer's style apparently.
the writer obviously doesn't get "it" ......
"The banjo, cello and upright bass felt more like old-timey stage props than the tools required for the job. " RUDE. If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all
Wow, the bit about going electric was so ridiculous it made me laugh. You're right k-squared.
Go listen to your old Everly Brothers records.
Stupid review. Like they should take his advice and start playing different instruments and changing their whole show at this time in their career when they are growing like crazy. What a moron.
Momma taught me to be nice, but I betcha' Chris (A.K.A 40 year old virgin) still lives at home with his parents and they all sit in the family room in the evenings and listen to their Barry Manilow albums.
Sorry mom.
Well, that is the Washington Post for you.....
Perhaps DC needs a bit more positive energy! I loved every minute of the "hooting, hollering, romping and stomping" DAR concert!!!!
this writer seems to get it, and there are some beautiful pics as well.

although, she is a little critical of some of the fans, but let's face it, there are a few of "those" fans at every show.....
Well, I for one had a GREAT time at the show. An excellent setlist, great atmosphere, great seats, great fans to share it with! The boys were great on Friday night.
Chris Richards you just don't know.... I thought this was one of the best Avett shows I have seen with an incredible set list, but by far the weirdest crowd vibe I've ever experience. Did any one else sit in the Balcony? It was bizarre up there...there were people sitting...for the whole entire show. And not just sitting and clapping along or bobbing their heads...I am talking about sitting stoically. How can ANYONE sit quietly through "I Killed Sally's Lover" and "Go To Sleep"???!!! As a matter of fact, when I looked behind me there was a chick sitting down yapping away on her cell phone. Why go to a concert if you aren't going to get out of your seat and DANCE?!! Either way, I have a great time, and at the end of the day, that is all that matters!
