There is a great story behind this one. Me and my sister walked into a cafe' and after ordering we sat there and got bored, so whats a better way to pass the time then to read the newspaper. As we flipped through the pages, my sister noticed a small ad that out of some kind of crazy luck happened to be an ad for the Avett Brothers concert tonight at the Amphitheater in the zoo. Being the biggest Avett Brothers fans in the world we looked at eachother thinking the exact same thing, that there was nothing that would stop us from going to this concert. So as our luck continued, my sister called to get tickets and there happened to be three open seats that where held until the last minute. If we had of called seconds earlier or seconds later i'm sure we would have never got the tickets. So our drive to the concert was the most suspenseful moment of our lives. My sister brought a friend with who was not too familiar with the enchanting music of the Avett Brothers, that would soon change. The concert began with Samantha Crane and the Midnight Shivers, who were a new addition to our most favored music. Then the moment of truth, the Avett Brothers entered and the crowd exploaded with excitement as the brothers began there first song. The rest of the night remains to be one of the greatest in my entire life.

I built this show in my head before I saw it, an outdoor Avett show should have been the end all be all. The excitement was high before the show, what started with gray skies and cool winds turned into sunshine and a breeze. Once inside, we walked twenty-five miles to get to the amphitheater, a nice trek and tried to sit down for a half hour since two rows of people were illiterate in regards to the seating, then they came on stage. Any show that opens with "Left on Laura, Left on Lisa" turns me up to eleven. As the show proceeded, the guys worked out a couple kinks with the sound and I began to notice the audience was less than enthused, outside of a roaring applause after each song which seemed to come out of obligation. Were these tickets handed out for free? Not that I have a problem with a diverse crowd, young and old, but I must have missed the sedative tent. However, I didn't miss the merchandise tent, $30 for a shirt, I'm cheap, but damn. Anyway, the guys were all smiles and Seth was running around like a little kid at one point, which was uplifting, by the encore I had a bitter taste in my mouth, which was okay because I was going to see them the night after in Chicago, IL. See my review for Chicago, it's a bit sunnier than this one.

The Avett Brothers are absolutely amazing! Espeacially live. They have so much talent with such great positive energy. Their music is like no others and can't really be placed in any particular catagory. Kind of a mix between folk, old country, blue grass, and punk rock all at the same time. My advice would be to go see them live and buy every Avett album they have. You will not be disappointed. Cheers to the Avett Brothers! See ya at the show!

I'm sending a friend & her oldest daughter to this show. They've got a bench (?) near the front.

She's not sure she'll like them...I think she's somehow got an aversion to the banjo and "country sound."
Here's hoping this show changes her mind! I have yet to hear a bad review from the music buddies I've turned on to this band.

Wish I could be there, too.

If you meet a nice redhead named Rebecca, please tell her Angi said to say Hi (and give her a big hug from me, too)!

My advice is simple: experience these artists.
