I have been checking avettbrotherstabs.com for updates on songs including "A Fine Melody" but i think that they stopped updating the site or something. Cananyone give me some help with this song?

You might be able to figure them out right from the man himself

Here's what I've been able to figure out from watching the man himself, as A says.
Tuning is an open D (I think) with the capo on the third fret. Tuning for each string (high to low) is F# D A D A D. Be careful tuning up those high strings, keep a few extras handy in case they break.
The basic chords are F, C and Dm with regular tuning, he plays them:
F - all open
C -

Still working on the opening part, but he chords for in between the verses are:

I have no idea what the chord ? is named, but it looks like this:

The site destroys my weak attempt at formatting, sorry. If anyone can help with that, it'd be great.
yep that tuning is much too risky. thanks for posting this

decide what to be and go be it.
You might be able to get away with tuning the lower strings down and then only need to tune the higher ones up by half a step or so and get the same effect. I'm pretty new to the whole open tuning thing, it hurts my brain to think of the combinations and how to play them, but it sounds really good playing it this way. Worth it!
Open d is tuned DADF#AD. Low to high
Okay, so it's not open D. That tuning is the best that I can figure out based on what Seth is playing in the video. Any idea of what it could be? It sounds good to my ear, but any corrections to my tabs would be great.

Dude I have no idea. I don't know much on different tuning. I'm sure it sounds good though
Actually they both share the same notes. Maybe use open D since it's safer since you tune down and try and find new formations.
I double posted? Lame. Didn't even notice.
I'll have to try some different tunings that aren't as harsh on the guitar, though I haven't noticed any issues yet.
I'm not near my guitar but try this

Interesting. I'll have to try that. Thanks!
Snapped a string tonight. Ha! Maybe tuning up and down 1 1/2 steps isn't the best idea...
Ok I went and tryed it the way I posted it in open D. It sounds pretty spot on but I don't know for shure. I can't go on the Internet. ( people I've been stealing it from locked it) I'm doing this on my I phone and it doesn't support flash. but it's way safer you tune everything down (low to high Dadf#ad) and slap that capo on the 3rd. Most everything you posted on the outer tuning is correct, just transpose it all. I don't know what C sounds better though I need to see the video.
I've played it in open C and it sounds pretty good to me. And you get to tune most of the strings down instead of up - less risk of snapping a string.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.
thanks for all the help. i had actually forgot that had posted this thread, and moved on to other songs. but was reminded last night at the ithaca show that i had gotten alot of great responses. thanks
Just took a look and it is in open c capo III.
I'll work on writing the whole thing out and posting. Great song
I've wanted to learn this one. I'll probably have to watch that video 1000 times to get it. I wish I could put that kind of effort into my programming homework. Thanks for posting.
"Well, the stars felt weak, but they laughed with me, at a world where the lights go out."
For those who are lazy and hate tuning...keep it regular...regular tuning I mean. Well, kind of regular...tune a half step down. Capo on 3; chords A, D, G. But play an A like so: (Frets are numbered from the point of capo)
A
5
2
2
2
0
0
This may look difficult to those of you who play an A with 3 fingers, but just use your first finger to cover all 4 higher strings, then your pinky up on 5. The picking at the beginning is easy enough, just play with it a little til you get it. The run after the chorus is almost identical to what Seth plays.
verse
(A) I will never be the (D) same
(A) as I (D) was (A) When you (G) knew me......
Chorus.
(A) Make me be(D)live
(A) that you (D) still, (A) still (G) love me....
Hope this helps those of you who hate tuning all over the place, or those who want to play this out somewhere and don't have multiple guitars or roadies to do your dirty work. You can get away without the half step down tuning, but if you want to play with the video, it may get distracting.

I just spent and hour or so watching how he plyaed in the video, and this is my best guess as to how it goes. I know the chord names are wrong, but i just needed something to represent them... help if you have corrections.
tuning is DADADF# with capo III.
I'm almost 99% positive, and that's only because i just broke my old guitar's G string trying to tune itand I wouldn't dare risk my new guitar's strings
(thinking back now i probably should have just took that tuning down a halfstep and put a capo on 4th for safety... lol oops)
I got that tuning from mostly the opening riff in the video, where he's playing a lot of open strings.
...and also using his chord fingerings, which are:
verse:
x0202x
000000
020200 or x24000(?)
then x35000(?)
riff
-----------------------------
-----------------------------
-----------------------------
---------0--2--2h4p2--0
--0--2----------------------
------------------------------
x02400
004500
000023 then 000020
000705 then 000907 then 000503 (?)
000023 then 000040 then chords above
the question marks are the chords i'm not certain about, since i don't have a G string
here is a shameless self plug of the of my cover + tabs of this song
