First year in college

First year in college

Hey, is anybody else starting college this fall? I'm excited, but terrified!

Feels like I just started. Its hard to believe I'll be beginning my Junior year.

If your experience is anything like mine, the first week or two will be one of the scariest times of your life, and the next 9 months will be the best times of your life. Enjoy it. Where will you be attending?

I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.

Hopefully Piedmont Baptist College. I'm going to major in Elementary Education. Where do you attend?

Wow. I feel old not being in school any more. When does that feeling stop?

My wife graduated from App. State in December of 2008. She was an Elementary Education major and still cannot find a teaching position. It is a shame that North Carolina decided to cut the budget for education yet again. Onehitwonder, I hope you the very best in pursuing what you love to do!

The University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Go Vols!

gibsonb, That's cool. I just found out yesterday that one of the ladies at church has a good friend that teaches some of the Elementary Education courses.
Thanks je1984!
Eventually, what I'm hoping to do is teach overseas for a while, then open my own school for kids in need here.

Luvmuffyn - it doesn't stop, especially when people that are ten years younger than yourself say they feel old.

agreed with heids. you gotta just accept it and try to stay young at heart (and do your damndest to keep the ol' bod in as good a shape as possible)

And when you hit 32 and feel like you might be past your prime, quit your job, sell all your stuff and move to the most exciting city in the country and start dating a 24 year old. That always helps too. Eye-wink

But seriously - good luck to all the kiddos starting school this month. I have a niece and a nephew who are getting ready to start their freshman years at Gonzaga and Notre Dame, respectively. Couldn't be prouder of them if I tried. I'm sure there are lots of folks who feel the same way about you. Smiling

Yeah...I should probably start doing that sometime soon...

well i'm jealous of those still in school... i actually graduated 2 1/2 years ago from App State and miss it just about everyday.... i still get to make it up a good bit, but Boone just isn't the same when you don't live up there...

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

Starting at Valencia Community College this fall..It may not be a big university, but it's still stressful!!

mwahemxo, I was going to go to a local community college for the first couple years, then I found PBC it just really felt like God was calling me there. I'm excited for you! Praying for ya!

I still act like I'm in college on the weekends, does that count?

I can't wait for school to start up again.

OneHitWonderinm- good luck! There are a lot of great opportunities, keep an open mind.

I graduated from a community college this past spring, and am going to the University of Tennessee @ Chattanooga starting on the 17th. I've pretty much been an on/off college student for the past 7 years (ugh..want a bachelors! SO BAD, changing majors and going part time screws you over). So..I'm starting a new chapter of my college career.

however as a sidenote, my grandmother, when realizing I got an associates degree instead of a bachelors said "Oh..I thought you graduated from an ACTUAL college." ...yeah...I had to walk away after that mean-spirited comment.
Also I'm 25 and apparently since I'm considered above the "typical" age of a college student I have been placed in the "Adult Services" category at my new school...makes me feel old even though I know many still consider 25 quite young. My boyfriend is 10 years older than me and my favorite way to tease him is by referring to myself as a "young spring chicken" and him as an "old man." But..I definitely don't consider 35 old by any means.

Good luck to everyone going back to school in the upcoming weeks! As long as you are passionate about your major/concentration/education it's really a great experience...even if it takes longer than you expected. Hell, I've been in school for 7 years and JUST got my associates and I'm as focused as ever. Can't WAIT to start up in a few weeks.
I'm majoring in Painting/Drawing by the way.

TEdwards: YES!!! rocky top all the way! I didn't attend UTK but my brother and about 80% of my graduating high school class did, and I've had MANY a good (although ridiculous) time at that school..such good memories..
Leedle: me too! Glad I'm not the only one

DAM.N. I'm old Sad

I just started school back this week, but in a TOOOTAAALLLYYY different way. I welcomed students back to my classroom. 8th grade science, once again. WHOOPEEE!

Yay teachers! And I just have to say...that in 8th grade science I dissected a fetal pig...and I've been a vegetarian since then...scarred for life. but seriously, I have much respect for teachers. Ya'll have amazing patience and a very important job.

I just finished unpacking/organizing my room at school, and thank goodness for TAB's music! It was the perfect motivator to keep going and not stop.

SO JEALOUS.

I finished in December waayyyyy ahead of schedule. Everyone else I know is going back this semester for another whole year and I'm really wishing I was back there with them.

i'm starting this year at citrus college in glendora california. financially you cant beat two years at a community college. i hope it doesn't suck...

best wishes to everyone.

First day of a new semester today!
I think that it went pretty well for me.
I was super pumped that I did everything on my to-do list.
I love when I am productive.
Haha.

I think community college is a really good idea, financially. I can't say if it sucks or not. I think it depends on a lot of different factors... Whether or not you're dorming, how serious the classes/teachers are etc...

I'll see you in the morning time.

I just started attending UNC Wilmington this fall, so far everything is good, hit me up if you happen to be in the area

Oh man I miss college...two years out. Any other Gamec0cks here?

All I can say is... enjoy every year you're there. You'll look back eight years from now and say "Man, I never knew how good I had it." I would give up anything I own to live those four years over again.

My first day of my last year in school is tomorrow... eeeeek

"I just started school back this week, but in a TOOOTAAALLLYYY different way."

My kids started back last week! I'm a speech therapist in the schools-hooray. I applaud you for working with those middles school kiddos though-anyone over about 7 and i'm dreading it! Happy school year, and let the countdown to summer break begin Smiling

yeah i have an apartment. so it should be great. i just hope the classes are good. not too easy. serious like you said.

My advice for college students: every once in a while, smile, and say to your teaching assistant, "wow, this stuff is really cool!" It will make our day. Smiling But enough about me...

The most important thing to know is that you'll be fine. Foster a love of learning (rather than freaking out about grades), work hard, play hard, meet new people, run around campus naked at 2 am, whatever; just live in the moments - because it will all be just fine.

----------
There was a dream, and one day I could see it, like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it.

I work as a high school counselor and my students start back tomorrow, which means things are about to get busy for me again (the busiest time for me is in the summer when I have my students on campus for a 5 week summer academy). I'm graduating my first group of students this spring--it's so exciting to think I've helped them reach this point.

For college (and other students): going along with what kinglet said--your counselors/advisors/professors/etc love hearing an enthusiastic "thank you" every now and then too. Generally, we love what we do, but hearing "thank you" really does make our day a little brighter.

lildeadhead: that pen she uses to keep her setlists? it's a human-finger bone. dipped in the blood of the ones who yell out during "murder in the city". poetic, no?

i just graduated in june from university of oregon. are you living in the dorms? if so, don't get black out drunk for the first time and pray to the porcelain god in your dorm bathroom. lets just say that if i were ever a public figure there is video of it that would ruin my reputation.

Good luck your first semester and the rest to fallow!
I am not a freshman but I thought this would be a good place to post this- Tuesday was my first day of class in Psychology of Personality and I sat down in between a Laura and a Lisa! Had LOLLOL in my head all class!
