Well, this was an interesting show. After seeing TAB in Indy I was pumped for Nashville. Unfortunately, I was not the only one. I do not think Grimeys had any idea what was upon them. The place was busting at the seams. My wife, son and I arrived about a half hour before the boys were set to take the stage. It took us 15 minutes just to get through the store to the stairs that led down to the courtyard where the stage was set. This is the show I referred to in earlier posts concerning bringing babies to concerts. My wife decided that it would be the perfect way to celebrate my 30th bday in Nashville with TAB and my newborn son. I was a little concerned about bring a baby to a concert. I kept thinking about the decibel level and crowd in general. Although we got some looks it went off without a hitch. Once we got to the stairs leading to the courtyard it was evident that this was not a great place for a baby and stroller. I escorted my wife with baby down the stairs and took the stroller back to the car. By the time I got back downstairs there was no room for me to see the band. I ended up just standing on my tiptoes to see them and my wife stayed in the walk-out basement/bar area. This was perfect because I could go back and forth to check on them. A silver lining in the entire thing is that since I did not have a good position to see the show I made sure I had a good position to meet the band. My wife, son and I were first in line when the band came in for the meet and greet. They were fantastic. I do not know how they can be so sincere to every person they meet and speak with. They are so down to earth. I have met a handful of other bands in my time, but meeting Joe, Bob, Scott and Seth was different. I walked away happy knowing that they appreciate the fans that support them. Many times after I meet a band I walk away thinking "They don't give a Sh*t that I just spent countless hours driving to see them, purchased countless albums and a ticket to the show." This is not the case with the Avett Brothers.
For those of you in or visiting the Nashville area be sure to check out Grimey's. This was our second visit to the store and it is a great place to talk with people who really do know and care about music. Plus every person is bound to find something to satisfy their taste in music.
Below is a link to my wife's website that has some pics from the Nashville show and the meet and greet session. There is one picture on the main page, but the rest are in an album that is located to the right. Just click on the album title Nashville april 2009. About ten or so of the pics are from the concert.
Awesome to see the video from above. Marysstikal and I are on the left by the speaker and we got the whole thing on video, too. Will post this week--surprisingly great from my point and shoot and Marysstikal got some great shots!! Plus some funny comments from Seth between songs.
It was short, but a really great show. It was packed, we got there around 10:45 and I think if we'd gotten there any later we'd have had the same parking/standing situation.
forgot to mention.... someone was trying to figure out what Scott and Seth's shirts said on them. I believe they are a Breast Cancer support shirt. You can look more closely at my photos and zoom if you are so inclined.
i do love the video from the above/behind...such an interesting vantage point from which to see their signature moves!
though i do wish that i wasn't so very much in the frame...ugh...it's very plain to see that i'm totally mirroring seth in this one. laaaame...can't i get my OWN moves??
I've been to multiple TAB concerts, and although this one was a lot shorter because other acts were playing all day, it might have been my favorite. It was very personal, with the boys playing on a carpet outside instead of a stage. I was so close I could reach out and touch them, and they had a good mix of old and new songs. Afterwards, they did an autograph signing and as usual, were so friendly and accommodating.
What is in the back parking lot of the building? I went to grimeys last summer while visiting nashville and caught a show downstairs in "The Basement." I couldnt imagine all of those people being there. that is so cool!
Loved this show as well! As I posted on another thread, I noticed there weren't a lot of hardcore Avett fans there. I was singing along to every song and could hear myself singing, which I was thinking might have been a little annoying to the guy beside me with the video camera! I sang low after that! I'm just so used to going to shows and being drowned out by everyone singing...that's one of the best parts of an Avett show to me. Hopefully people were converted on Saturday.
So bummed they had to go when they did while the meet and greet was going on. I am hoping one day to finally get my picture taken with the boys. I have tried so many times and been unsuccessful. This time is one more to add. My husband reminded me of their drive to Chattanooga and how it was an hour ahead there. I had forgotten about that. Maybe another time! I had an excellent time at this show!
Did anyone else stay to hear the band after the Avetts...I think White Star something? They were pretty cool as well. I couldn't figure out though why they were playing the same song over and over again and stopping at the same point. Technical problems?
Quick question for all:
I think someone mentioned that in the past TAB has played Record Store Day.... Where has TAB preformed in the past on Record Store Day? No specific reason for the question, this is more just to quench my curiousity behind the question.
It was a great show! I was lucky enough to be backed into a brick wall (literally), which I jumped onto and saw for the show, great view! It was great to see so many people showed up!
Hey Erin, I saw all the people on the brickwall and was actually jealous of you guys. To see the band from my vantage point I had to be on my tip toes and peer over three rows of people in front of me. And even when I did that I could only see the tops of their heads.
So does anyone know the answer to the question I posed above?
Just curious.

Nice blog and pictures, TAB_Zealot. Thanks.
The back is just a big cement yard. Autographs were in The Basement.
