Raleigh, NC 04.22.09 (opening for DMB)

This is what I remember, it's not in order...maybe someone can fill in the rest.

Laundry Room
Paranoia
Bella Donna
Distraction #74
Go to Sleep
At the Beach
Weight of Lies
Die Die Die
Murder in the City
I & Love & You
Kick Drum Heart
Talk On Indolence

I know there were a couple more that I'm forgetting.

Dave Matthews came out in the beginning and introduced TAB. He was really excited to have them as a part of his tour and he said that all of his friends in Seattle were telling him nothing but good things about them. I'm not a Dave Matthews fan, but I thought it was nice of him to come out and introduce them.

I thought they sounded really good tonight! Smiling Can't wait for VA in July!

Thanks for the speedy post! I hope the boys got a warm reception by the DMB crowd. It sounds like Dave was on board, so that's a plus!

did they really play that many songs...it seemed so short...but sweet...

I bet talk on indolence left everyone Jawdropping!

Awesome, I'm seeing them tom. and was scared it was going to be a quick one and then DMB comes on, but I'm happy to hear they put in a good set.

You're right, Talk on Indolence was received the best by the crowd. Smiling They saved it for later in the set which was good because a lot more people had come in by that time. It seemed like some of the DMB crowd were accepting and open to their set, but there were also many people who were content to sit around socializing with their friends (at least this was how it was from my perspective on the lawn). I was hoping they would get a big chorus of "La La La La La La" going throughout the crowd during Go To Sleep, but it was not to be. There were definitely a decent amount of people there for the Avetts but we all seemed pretty spread out because the place is huge.

Honestly, I was kind of surprised that there weren't a lot more Avett fans there after they sold-out their big show in Cary last summer, but I understand how hard it is to justify paying that much money for a ticket just for an hour of music. Lawn tickets were $45 at the box office and they were more than $50 if you bought them online. For me, it was worth the ticket price just to hear Bella Donna. Smiling

I've seen DMB several times and it is always a nice, mellow crowd. Most who aren't Avett Bros fans going into it will be when they leave. I'm seeing them Friday night and really excited about it!

I remember seeing one of my all time favorites, The Cure, a while back on a Curiosa tour (one those oversized outdoor ampitheaters where the sound suuuuuuuuux - Tweeter Ctr or whatever corp owns it now in Chicago) . I had grown up listening to everything before the Singles - Staring @ the Sea came out......anyway - i finally get a chance to see them (cause i'm old enough now) and one of the cool up and coming opening acts was playing who i hadn't heard before, but knew there was some buzz to them........i didn't start to really pay attention until this group of about 50 peeps banded together in front/middle of the lawn. There were jumping up and down in unison, singing every song out loud. when i finally focused in on the band from my distant seat on the grass - i could tell they were pretty effin good. it was Interpol. from my vantage point, don't know if i would have listened as intently as i did if it weren't for those crazies in the middle, who obviously had a clue. Perhaps TAB fans should do something similar at these next few shows - at the very least you could be in your own lil bubble, having fun and being oblivious to the vacant stares of surrounding fans who don't care, or who just don't get it.

frick man i'm so hype for tomorrow night! i hope we get laundry room!!! ahhhh i'm not going to be able to contain myself during class today!

I was definitely in my own lil bubble enjoying every minute of their set, dancing and grooving and bouncing up and down like a fool. I was glad when they would get to a slow song so i could catch my breath. Smiling I'm sure a lot of the folks around me thought I was totally nuts, but I had to represent for the Avetts. I felt the need to show just as much love to the Bros. as I would if I were in the front row.

One more thing...I stopped at a couple of merch tables and was surprised that they didn't have any Avett merch on display. I saw there were some boxes filled with one style of shirt, but I was hoping for a larger spread. I don't know if it will be like that at all of the shows with DMB, but if you are headed out to one of these shows, know that just b/c you don't see any Avett merch on display doesn't mean they don't have some stuff.

I thought they rocked the house. There was definitely an Avett contingent where I was sitting on the right lawn. We were going crazy the whole time. Can't wait for Myrtle Beach!

Ah, I am so excited for tomorrow night! I can not wait! I think the Charlotte show will bring a lot more people from right at home to support TAB. I know a lot of people going tomorrow night who like dave and never seen him live but are going just to see TAB. Of you who went to the concert last night did TAB start right about 7pm?

They are playing Laundry Room a lot. Gives me hope.
Maybe as the tour goes on, buzz will grow for TAB. Wonder what is said on the DMB site? Anyone ever check it out?

"Wonder what is said on the DMB site? Anyone ever check it out?"

I think we need to send some representatives to check it out/report back.

I am so excited about Friday. I am hoping for Laundry Room as well. I still have not heard November Blue live yet..... Maybe we will be treated with NB.

meh, you have to actually join to read DMB's boards. laaaame.

The Avett Brothers did go on at just about 7. There was also merch on display, albeit in a very hard to see corner of the big DMB merch tent.

I got a stern talking-to from a security guard for taking a picture on my phone during the Avett Brothers' set, yet didn't see one person get the same during DMB's set, even when there were people all around taking pictures and video. I found that strange since it is DMB that is against the pictures.

marysstikal- you can join antsmarching.org for free! Smiling

I'm sure that in the Warehouse they loved the Avetts if they weren't tailgating (big possibility sadly) I was a DMB fan before TAB- it was a DMB event that lead me here! Some of us post very heavily about TAB over there!!! (or did until we let our membership lapse- bah!- who can afford tickets AND $35 a year!??)

I'm not much of a Dave fan either and I must admit that I left a bit early from the show, but the Avett Brothers were fantastic and I was so pleased with their setlist! They put on an amazing show!

Great set to introduce their music to new fans. Thanks for posting that.

After seeing this setlist and the others from their opening week, I feel like they have retired LOL, LOL. Great set though.

The show was great got the seats just as Dave was introducing the boys to the stage. It was my fourth Dave show and by dar TAB brought the house down more than any other opening act, if the crowd had only been a little bigger at the start. You could tell they were pumped to only the stage, and its only going to be better Friday night, can't wait for it.

I know a couple people who are on Warehouse - one is a member here too...let me see if I can get them to give us some insider information.

this set seems nearly perfect.
i'd kill to hear Bella Donna, Go to Sleep, & Talk On Indolence! i'm keeping my fingers crossed i'll hear these on the 9th. Smiling

this was an awesome show!
largest response i've ever personally seen by a DMB opener...
first time i've ever stood up for an opener...
