What's a good place to eat dinner near the Performing Arts Center? Recommendations for all kinds of cuisine are very welcome, and if the restaurant is in walking distance, that would be good too...that is, if walking around downtown Roanoke won't get us killed (I really have no idea). That little bit of info would also be helpful.

I lived out close to Roanoke for a year. You could walk through downtown with money taped to your body and no one would try to steal a single one. It is a cool town with many different places to eat, drink or just shop. Everything is pretty close to the venue .

Roanoke is the kind of place that even the pan handlers are nice. The 1st time I went there a dude walks up and instead of begging for cash he asked us if he could write us a poem. He explained that he feeds himself by writing poems for tourists...it was very cool.

Went here before the last Roanoke show and had a good time. Decent food, solid beer selection. A little outside of downtown but not too far.

I think a gathering is set for The Blues Barbeque Company

Mmmm...barbeque...you're speaking my language. We just might have to do that. Maybe we'll see you there!

"Life's too short, just be nice."

Yeah blues bbq company is the spot. Newer place, the food and beer are amazing. There is no bud light or any crap like that on tap only flying dog, bourban barrel company, shiner bock, magic hat, you know, the good stuff. It is probably about a mile from the civic center so, not a bad walk.

As far as fork in the alley mentioned above, it is very good, especially the pizza. However, they have opened a second one with an expanded menu downtown called the fork in the city, it's amazing.

And as far as walking downtown, that others guy comment was a bit misleading. Me and my girlfriend own a condo downtown and we both work downtown and have for a long while now. During daylight hours you are fine, but if I were a female i would not walk around alone downtown late night. It is not the locals that re the problem. There is a pretty large bus station in the center of downtown and there are some very iffy people walking around waiting for thier next bus, alot of them are just passing through to bigger cities. It is much safer then most cities but it is still downtown in an urban area, and there are still bad people.

See you at Blues BBQ Company!!!

I should have quantified my statement, it is way safer than any of the other cities I go to on a regular basis...I.E. Philly, DC, Baltimore .... big cities. I love Roanoke as far as smaller cities go it is the best.

I would go on to say that its common knowledge, after dark in any town, I would not recommend ladies strolling around.
