What would you do?

What would you do?

My wife is 36 weeks pregnant and I am supposed to be going to merlefest this weekend. I am driving form FL. I do not want to be gone and her go in to labor. She wants me to go to the concert but i just don't know. I have had tickets since last year. Hotel reservations. Time off work! What are the odds of her going in to labor this weekend? What would you do nation?

That's a really tough one. If you go, and she does go into labor, what are the chances that you'd be able to take a quick flight back?

I know, plus I will be in the dog house for a long long time!

That's a really tough one! ... until you start thinking about potentially missing the birth of your child and not being there for your wife. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but it had to be said Sad Problem is, you have to be ready for the resentment that would accompany her NOT going into labor while you're gone and you missing the festival "for nothing". It's a tough one either way, but in the end I would probably weigh the resentment that you might feel for missing the concert against the disappointment you would feel about missing the birth of your child and the potential resentment that your wife might have for you not being there.

It is my third child and I wouldnt choose anything over seeing the birth of him, but she did say if I missed the festival, I could purchase a new banjo so I might just give my tix to my grandparents who would love to go!

Coming from someone that was 10 days late with my pregnancy, what are the chances that the baby will come early? When I was 5 days late, I went hiking 2 hours away from the hospital I was going to deliver at. I guess a lot depends on other factors. Is it your first child? Then there would be no way I would have wanted my daughter's daddy to be away. But then again, if it were me, I would be going to the festival 36 weeks pregnant. (I also was in labor for over 24 hours, so he would have had plenty of time to get back.) Everyone is different, but I personally think that the chances of the baby coming early is slim especially if it is a normal pregnancy.

If she is giving you her blessing to go, then go!

Oops, sorry, our posts must have crossed. I see that it is your 3rd! By the way, congratulations!

That would be a very special banjo! And you can always tell your child about the time you chose being there for him/her over an amazing music festival when you play it singing - "I meant what I said when I said I would rearrange my plans and change for you".

just take a page out of the brothers' book. a tampa show was cancelled due to the birth of scott's daughter. he wouldn't blame you. haha. i think i would try and go, but make sure i have an action plan just in case the call comes you know? plan ahead.

Thank you soulshine and thats a good idea jcpegg. My wife is tiny, all baby, and both of our other children came very quick when she went in to labor. Both within 5 hours. I hate to miss it but, I will see them again at a later date. I just wanted to experience merlefest. Also, She just got back from the doctor and he said that she is 2cn, and he would be surprised if he didnt see her again by this weekend, so i think i am going to play it safe and stay home.

'cause all my mistakes, they brought me to you"

Northbound.... I'll be thinking about you! I'll do my best to get some videos on YouTube for ya. Anybody aside from TAB you really wanted to catch? And best to you and your family on a quick, complication-free delivery, and a happy, healthy little one!

Leave the babymaker home. But stay with her.

Holy Holy holy crap!!!!!!My wife just called me and said it was a late April fools joke! She said she had to get me back because I got her really good this year. The doctor said it would probably be another two weeks. I was fixing to cancel everything and she got me good. Thank you all for your help with this. Jcpegg thank you very much!! There are some really good people on this board. So my bags are still packed. I'm making the drive at the end of the week. She said she had to go ahead and tell me because I was fixing to give my ticket away and stuff. She got me good!
Take care guys!

That's fantastic!!! Have fun!

I was 36 weeks preggo the last time Avetts played Merlefest. I had tickets and didn't go- too much walking on enormously swollen legs and ankles. I passed my tickets on to friends, and it was their first show- they have been in love ever since. They thank Branch all the time! Smiling

If I were you I'd be staying home, just make sure you bargain it so you can go to merlefest next year. That's the ultimate win-win-win: you know you'll see the kid born/be there for the wife, you'll get a super special banjo, and you'll get to go next year at a time when you'll prob be ready for a little vacation.

thats my 2 cents

just mark your calendar and steer clear of your wife approximately 9 months before it this time.

I know right!

Big gamble but odds are in your favor. I would play it safe and not go (since you asked - especially since there are two littles in the picture) but if you feel confident and she is telling you to go for it then there's your answer. Have fun.

Northbound - Your wife is hilarious - I love her sense of humor!!!!!

Have a great time at Merlefest.......

I THINK YOU SHOULD STILL GO AND MAYBE SET UP SOMETHING LIKE SKYPE JUST CASE YOU CANT MAKE IT!!!!!!!! JUST MY HO THOUGH!!!!!
