Seth Avett's First 2 Solo Records + 5 New Videos & Scott Avett Block Prints ...

We hope the holiday season is treating you well! We’re here to announce some extra things that will be available, starting this week.

SETH AVETT SOLO PROJECTS & VIDEOS
First, after much anticipation, the time has finally come to re-release all of Seth Avett’s solo albums, which have been released under the moniker Timothy Seth Avett as Darling. All three albums will be available for sale at the upcoming shows in Knoxville, Asheville, Atlanta and Dallas as well as on iTunes, starting 12/29/09.

A note from Seth, on these solo works, his new website and more:

“In the year 2001, at twenty-one years of age, I recorded an album entitled To Make the World Quiet. The inspiration for the piece was urgent and impatient. There was no managerial or label involvement. There was no funding. Without any consideration towards who (if anyone) would hear the result of this outing, I happily executed each aspect of the process, including all writing, performance of each instrument, engineering and modest production*. The following year, I again, by the same process was obliged to record an album. Killing the Headlamps was the realization of this second venture as ‘Darling’. Both albums were made on a 4-track cassette recorder. I initially mixed them both on a low-fidelity home stereo in my kitchen (to yet another cassette). I spent a perhaps unhealthy amount of time with a ruler, an X-acto knife, and a real-time dual-deck cd duplicator, hand-assembling these two albums (along with the first couple thousand units of the first official Avett Brothers recording Country Was).

Until New Years Eve 2010, the only physical copies of these records laid in the hands of maybe a few hundred people that I sold them to personally. I have been honored by the continued interest in these early works as expressed by those who have inquired about them at Avett performances. It is this kind inquiry that has inspired me again; this time to make them readily available through a proper duplication and ordering process**.

Starting on December the 30th in Knoxville, TN, the first two ‘Darling’ records (in addition to The Mourning, The Silver, The Bell), will be available at each Avett Brothers performance through January the 3rd. From then on, all three albums can be obtained from the website (timothysethavettasdarling.com) by download or through a mail-order process for the actual physical copies. They will be available on iTunes as well, starting December 29th.

In addition, a set of 5 videos have been created by the fine people at Crackerfarm to coincide not only with the newfound availability of these recordings, but with the New Year as well. Each video is a one-camera/one-angle performance of a song from one of the 3 ‘Darling’ records. These visual pieces are defined by their simplicity, as there has been no editing or audio overdubbing of any kind. Starting today, December 28th, we have posted two of these videos — and for the next three weeks, a new video will be posted on Monday morning at ten o’clock (EST) on the Darling website. We hope you enjoy them.

My sincere thanks go out to all who have made these current developments possible, not least of all to the Avett Brothers fans, who have graciously provided the fire to keep the interest in these solo works alive.
-Seth”

SCOTT AVETT BLOCK PRINTS
In addition to Seth’s solo works, we will also have some limited edition block prints by Scott Avett available at the upcoming shows. To watch a video of Scott making some of the prints, and read more about the process, click here. And to view the prints, click here.

Thank you to everyone for your support. We will see you very soon!

-The Avett Brothers

*Kenny Van Graham played lead guitar for two of the 11 songs on the first record (Mr. Graham contributed his talents to ‘The Mourning, The Silver, The Bell’ as well.)
**This availability was made extremely more possible through the hard work of engineer Doug Williams, who painstakingly transferred these tracks into higher quality machines and oversaw (along with Brent Lambert) the long-overdue mastering process of these works.

Well, this is exactly the kind of thing I prayed for on superstitious opportunities like the North Star, the bigger half of a wishbone, or whenever I caught 11:11 on my car radio. So thank you sincerely, Timothy Seth Avett, for your contribution to my love of the music you make. How grateful I actually am cannot be expressed, but what I say now will most likely be regarded as the opposite: avaricious (one might say Avett-ricious? but that's a stretch) and perhaps a bit true to the saying, "Give a man an inch and he'll want a mile." That being said, you guys should re-release the Avett Bros. EP and Live at the Double Door Inn. Then, you might just say, I'd be content, probably to the point of foaming at the mouth.

Thank you Seth and Scott!!! I can't wait for after Christmas goodies to bring in the New Year! I have last year's print by Scott and now have it framed/matted and hung beautifully on the wall. Hopefully I will be able to add another one, two, three...four? I wish! Seeing you guys on New Years Eve and Day is all I need!

*Much Peace, Love, and Respect*

Will we hsve to pay to download them? either way, im getting my hands on them, thank you!

I met you several weeks ago because of WBT John Hanson kept talking about you and he'd play Go to Sleep at the end of his show. I was into the Asheville Bluegrass music scene, so I decided to check you out and I was totally taken in. I tell everyone about you now. The Butler High School lifeguard at the Simmons YMCA, and I just want to thank you for giving me something to look forward to everyday. We got to talking about the horticulture class there and she told me about a kid who planted some pot seeds and he got arrested, but they dropped the charges cause they couldn't prove he planted them. Anyway I just thought I'd add that story. Have a good day, hope to find a NYE date for your show, I am new to Charlotte from CA.

Congratualtions!!

What an inspiration you are to others!!

Thank you.

All the best.

gonna want to know why I can't stay awake at work. It's because I'm going to be up all night listening to this beautiful music. Thank you so much for giving it to us, Seth.

I've recently gotten into wood block carving/prints as well. Planned on giving some as presents for Christmas, but they're probably gonna be New Year's presents seeing that they've taken so long.

There was a dream and one day I could see it. So, like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it. And there was a kid with a head full of doubt, so I'll scream 'til I die or the last of those bad thoughts are finally out.

Glad they're finally available for the masses. They're possibly the most honest, beautifully melancholy songs I've ever heard.

Thanks Seth, and everyone involved.

I'm super exited to hear Seth's work! I still want Scott's prints though! Bring 'em to the West Coast!!

This is hilarious!! I cannot believe I waited so long to get these incredible CDs... three days ago as a Christmas present. I'm practically wearing out my stereo with them, having had computer problems while downloading them through amazon mp3. This is really exciting though.

to find a way to get these albums for some time now. I'm glad they're being re-released - as someone who did not have the good fortune to discover the band in the early years, I'm having to backtrack and develop a collection.

Can't wait, I have looked for Seth's early music everywhere I could think of.
I have also been wondering when Scot's art would be made available.
Really excited!

"...decide what to be and go be it..."

simply a dream come true

I will make sure I pick it up at the Dallas show my friend.....See you guy's in a week!! So excited I could shed a tear!!!

Can I admit that I am brought to tears? Thank you so much for making these available for us to hear. The Mourning, The Silver, The Bell is a beautiful album, one of my favorites of all time. I am thrilled to be able to hold hard copies of these in my hands.

I am also extremely excited to see the prints. If only I am able to purchase one of these beauties!!

Happy day!!

See you in Knoxville

The Avetts are a rare talent, timeless yet current, and capable of singing straight to a single soul while broadcasting to the ever-increasing masses.

It seems as though there is no destination for us… just a passing through and a disappearing when it is our time.
