Our Tribute To Johnny Cash
JANUAR 14, 2010, 3:05 nachmittags
Johnny Cash's final recordings, American VI: Ain't No Grave, is being released on February 26th.
This is the final installment in the "American Recording Series," and features one of the last songs Cash ever wrote, "I Corinthians: 15:55."
Beyond Cash's own contributions, this album will include a number of acoustic covers....
And it is with honor and great excitement that we announce:
Scott and Seth are featured on the album's title track, "Ain't No Grave."
We hope you all will join us in paying tribute to this music legend, on what would have been his 78th birthday.. let's celebrate on February 26th!
Best,
The Avett Brothers

Johnny Lives!
I've had the pleasure of previewing this cd. Am looking forward to the release next week. Congrats to the bros. for their contribution to the title track, which sounds awesome. Don't forget, on the 26th, (Johnny's B-Day), wear black.

Review
We would love for Terry to come in and pay tribute to the legend Johnny Cash.
We would like for him to do Motion Capture for a high profile music video game, Guitar Hero. We came upon Terry's site and are positive that Terry is the best Johnny Cash tribute artist out there. He has the same motions and mannerisms that Johnny bestowed on his audiences for decades.

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS WEBSITE SHOWS AVETTS ON THIS SAT 1-23!!!!!!!!!!!!
(3511) The Avett Brothers / Heartless Bastards
The Avett Brothers
From the ACL taping program on November 16, 2009:
In the wake of their newest album that redefines them as a musical force to be reckoned with, The Avett Brothers will take the Austin City Limits stage for the first time. Fans take note: this band of troubadours likes to get rowdy and their live shows have become the stuff of legends.
The Avett Brothers debuted their first album Country Was in 2002 with a sound Billboard Magazine defined as possesing the "ability to lure comfortable yet elegant fireplace medlodies from just a handful of guitars and one DNA strand." The Avett Brothers went on to record fice more albums and three EPs, including their 2007 EP, The Gleam II, "marking the band's considerable musical growth over just a few short years...The EP is eloquent but not showy, reflective but not self-absorbed, tender but not saccharine." [Pitchfork].
The tremendous work the band has put into these numerous records has left The Avett Brothers with a generously stocked tool belt of musical mastery that can only result from years of meticulous sharpening and polishing. While each album has been a snippet of greatness in its own right, all were essentially paving the way to I And Love And You. Released in September 2009, this album is "packed front to back with lyrical treats and lovely sonic touches" [Billboard]. Paste Magazine sings the album's praises, claiming "The Avett Brothers are experts in mining the heart and soul of the modern American man. Love is an obvious theme, but so is finding freedon and maturity. Their lyrics are tough yet vulnerable, insightful yet homepsun, manly yet emotional. The kind of thing that makes the girls giddy and the boys envious."

Interesting
So does this mean that the Avetts recorded this song about six years ago?
And that must have been how they first met Rick Rubin?

Scott sounds just like Willie Nelson on Salina
I am thrilled The Avett Brothers are on Johnny Cash's LP, I worked for CBS Records before they became Sony and it was the best job I've ever had. I tell everyone I meet to listen to the Avett Brothers. Next artist duo could be Willie Nelson, Scott sounds just like Willie on "Salina'.
awesome
Well deserved respect by getting a spot on title track of this last installment of the American series. Can't wait to hear this!
No Greater Tribute Then....
I cannot fathom of a more dynamic group that captures the heart and soul of Johnny Cash other then The Avetts to perform as a tribute! Mighty Fine! I can't wait to get my hands on the CD. I picture Johnny just beaming from ear to ear with joy over having The Avetts cover this song. Amen. I'm done.

What an honor!
PERFECT
this is great news. you guys are a shining example of integrity, sincerity, passion and perseverance and the rewards they can bring in time. keep on keepin on.
would love to hear the Cash track in Oakland
and while i and love and the album, i hope the next one shows your rowdy side a little more... rick did a beautiful job extracting and expanding the beauty and depth of your music. The raw, rowdy and stripped down avetts stole my heart 4 years ago and now that you're on the map it's time to give the world a hefty dose!
Just a loving fan's opinion. see ya 4/17 at the Fox.
Liz
Great news everyone!
Awesome! This is the best thing I've heard in a long time. You guys should be honoured.
The Avetts in a Cash album...looking really forward to this. Congratulations!
What great news...
This is such an honor for you...right up there with playing at the Ryman. Congratulations, Scott and Seth!

there's only one thing here worth hoping for
It seems as though there is no destination for us… just a passing through and a disappearing when it is our time.
YES!
I read somewhere that Dylan said "if God has a voice I bet it sounds like Johnny Cash." Looking forward to the final installment, now I'm even more excited!
