I'm a fan (and you should be too) because... the Avett's music speaks to me like no other band I've ever experienced. I first heard them during a very relevant period of my life. I was going through a tough time and my friends turned me on to some older records (Live Volume II, The Gleam, Mignonette, and Carolina Jubilee). They were touring their Emotionalism album and were coming within three hours of my hometown. I jumped in the car and headed for Nelsonville, OH. I've never been the same since. I overheard one of the people that worked there saying that it sounded like we were going to stomp through the floor. Their live performance is unreal and the lyrics are so applicable to anybody that's ever loved, lossed, and lived to tell about it.
