If for no other reason, the CD is awesome due to Murder In The City. The first time I heard this was live, and you could have heard a pin drop! Such an incredible performance that just gave me chills! Just wonderful!!

in the what will become the gleam series

It occurs to me that I must look biased, rating every album 5 stars. But I cannot help but appreciate the art and effort poured into each of these works.

"Black, Blue" did what I thought no other Avett Brothers song could do in challenging "November Blue" for most preferred spot. Some folks mentioned to me that this album was too sad. I thought the first Gleam was sadder, honestly. Another mention goes for "Souls Like The Wheels." Gorgeous guitar work.

I loved this short, but beautiful cd. Tear Down the House is so moving. I often think of my childhood home and woods I had total freedom in when I was little...it's long gone now for a 3.5 million "home"...and Murder in the City makes me tear when I hear it,just about every time still.

It may end up getting kind of redundant reviewing all of these albums, because they're all a 5 out of 5. From Tear Down the House to Souls Like the Wheels, this EP is heartbreaking and heartwarming all in the same package. If this is any indication of what's to come in the series, I greatly look forward to the next installment.

While I prefer the first Gleam to this it is keeping us from crawling up the walls in anticipation of I and Love and You. Tear Down the House and Murder in the City are some of the best songs the Avetts have ever wrote.

This album does have what I think is their most powerful song, "Murdered in the City." I wish I could give it 3.5, but I'll round up.

This is a great album.... I honestly believe it to be better than the original Gleam... like most of Avett's stuff, it has powerful lyrical content as well as some great melodies... definitely a must have

This is the 2nd installment of The Gleam Series, and in my opinion is better than the first... The first Gleam was only Scott and Seth Avett; however, with the 2nd Gleam, they decided to bring in Bobby C and Joe K.....which in my opinion really adds a few more layers to an already phenomenal album..... the lyrics are amazing on each song and have a special place in the Avett catalog....

My absolute favorite release so far. Every song is a masterpiece. I'm especially fond of St. Joseph's and Bella Donna.

This album is so heartfelt. I don't see how anyone can listen to this collection of songs and not be moved. The brothers are still coming out with great lyrics and melodies that keep you interested in what Scott or Seth will say next. A must have for any new or old Avett Bros. fan.

Love St josephs, especially in the gondola

When I saw them do this at the Variety Playhouse here in Atlanta a few years ago, I was standing next to Watson A and his wife and daughter and some other fine folks. That song brought me to tears, right in the front row. Very unexpected. My younger brother was killed by the LAPD in June, 2001.
So, yes, he was murdered in the city. The line about the love that let us share our name just kills me every time. Same thing happens in during The Incredibles. It's all about a sister protecting her younger brother... something I was unable to do when he was shot and killed on the street. I heard the song years after the fact, and was amazed at the words of someone who doesn't know me making me feel all over again that helpless feeling. But this time, it's tempered with love, so it's easier to bear.
Thank you, Avetts (and Bob... who always gets left out, unfairly) for making beautiful music I can cry to and laugh to and tell my friends about whenever they're in town.

As soon as I heard murder in the city, i knew that the brothers would be taking us in a new direction. I love the organic sounds, and the writing is more mature and prolific. awesome piece of work, just wish it were longer.

The Second Gleam is both gentle and powerful. The lyrics are profound and speak clearly about life and love. The Avett Brothers song writing shines on this EP!

The Gleam 2 was good, but in all honesty, I myself can't consider it as good as the first Gleam. The first Gleam is just to good. Still a good album, just not as good to the first.

If there was a way to top the first Gleam, this is it. Flawless from start to finish, every song's a winner.

All the tracks are solid, Murder and Bella being my favorite. Got to see Bella live in Holt, MI last year and thought it was even better live. The album flows, but I really like the banjo in their music, and felt it was underutilized on this album.

This is such a beautiful album. From start to finish, every song is so heartfelt, which is no surprise coming from these guys. My favorites are probably "Murder In The City" (it gives me chills too) and "Souls Like The Wheels," which helped me through a hard time and I think is underrated. For being so short, I still like to put it in my car and listen to it over and over.

After Emotionalism took off everyone couldn't wait for a follow up of The Gleam 1. I think the anticipation of this album was greater than the rest. I remember all of us trying to figure out which songs would be on the album and which ones we wanted to hear. Its one you never get tired of. Can't wait for another.

I had never looked forward to an EP as much as I did with the Second Gleam. It was well worth it.

Listen carefully to the end of the verse "Did I help when I was kissing you..." There's a brief pause right after.... then you hear Seth exhale... That breath sends chills down my spine every time I hear it...

You can just hear the heartache and anguish that still lives inside this song...

Once again they have taken their fans captive through their captivating music. This album although just a side release is great and should be in anyone's collection. I personally want to thank the band for this album and hope that they continue to make great music. I cannot wait for this next release!

Waiting to listen to "Laundry Room" somewhere besides YouTube.

It is my favorite. I hope that laundry room will not be a departure from what they have done in the past.

Some wonderful songs here, especially The Greatest Sum

Murder in the City was the first song I ever heard live. The boys opened up with it at my first live Avett show July 2008 in my home town, Bristol TN. The CD hadnt even came out yet and then later Seth did Tear down the House for encore!! Best show ever!!

St. Joseph's is my favorite song on this EP. I can't wait to see you guys in Kansas City! Tear Down the House was a pretty good one too!

After four seconds of this song, you knew the album would be another feather in the Avetts' cap.

I love this album, it really calms me down from time to time. I especially love it because in the song St. Joseph's it mentions Lake Junaluska in NC, which I have been to a few family reunions at. This album is great and worth the $8.00!
