The Avett's played a tight set and played some songs I hadn't heard yet which was great. However, they lacked the energy they had when I saw them at the Soiled Dove underground a few years before. It seemed that Scott especially was lacking some energy which could have been due to many reasons I'm sure. That was somewhat disappointing as well as the fact that they didn't play much off the new album. I was really hoping to see them perform Laundry Room after seeing videos of them performing it live.
Still a great band and one of the best live acts out there.
Don't get me wrong: The boys played great that night. I just wished they had picked a better venue than the Ogden. I've never been a big fan of that theater. The Paramount or Fillmore are comparable in size, but are much higher quality. I mean, what kind of bar runs out of almost every kind of beer during the first set? I think the theater itself is poorly managed, and it's probably the hottest place on the planet, save for the earth's core itself.
I would have walked through hell itself to see this show, though. My girlfriend and I got these tickets for our 2 year anniversary. They don't often get west of the Mississippi and it was well worth the wait. I was kind of surprised to not hear I+L+Y, but I'm sure they've been playing it ad nauseam every day so far, so I'll forgive them. I cannot wait for their return to Denver, hopefully at the Paramount, Fillmore, or Soiled Dove Underground (My absolute favorite so far, where my cousin's band opened for them).

My wife and I flew in last night from Dallas and are heading out of Denver this afternoon towards Steamboat and are camping at Steamboat Campground. Friday night we are camping in Denver and Saturday we return to a hotel in hot need of a shower. We are super stoked to see the brother in some great venues this weekend. This is our anniversary gift to each other and we couldn't be happier with our plans! If you see a really cute little gal standing next to a guy that looks like a former defensive lineman, that's us...so come say hi!
Anyone wants a passenger to share gas, etc... let me know. I am good for the Boulder and Denver shows but need a way to get to Telluride and Steamboat. sail_junkie at yahoo dot com or seven too oh nine five one four thr33 six seven.
i used to live in colorado (just moved away 8 months ago) and been to hunderds of shows at pretty much every venue so if anyone has any Q's let me know, anyway. Ogden is ok, i would have preferred red rocks obviously, or even the fillmore. odgen is an older theatre style with balcony. large GA floor so great for gettin your swerve on. yeaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I'm writing to make sure that everyone attending this show realizes that is is the last show in an epic 4-night Colorado marathon that includes 2 FREE shows in Telluride and Steamboat and a Boulder show. That's 4 shows for the price of 2!!!
Also, would anyone be interested in putting together an Avett Nation gathering before the Boulder show?
