LA was awesome! As usual the band put on a great show. Was walking around a few hours before the show and met Joe in front of the theater. He was waiting for dinner to show up. Thai food I think. Anyway, the Orpheum was beautiful and our seats were in the fourth row. Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside opened and were great! Then came the Avetts, who blew us away! They played January Wedding off the new album for the first time in public.
Oh, by the way, I was hoping to get my uke signed. I asked Joe about it and he said I would have to talk to Thane, the road manager, but I never ran into him. : (
Just got back from the show at the Orpheum.... I traveled 9k miles to visit friends in the states, and my favorite one said "tis your lucky day, the Avett Bros are in town the weekend you are in LA." Truly a stroke of luck, and an amazing, energizing show in a beautiful venue. Thank you so much for your heart and soul and for sharing your unconditional love of music.
I heard a rumor that there may be a European tour in the works for the spring... please keep Barcelona in mind, she's beautiful and would make a wonderful host.
Thank you once again.
I don't know what I'm more excited about, the fact that I have a 4 day weekend away from the office or the fact that I will be sitting up close and personal at The Avett Brothers show!? I am pretty much guaranteeing I'll have chills by the end of the first song.
I'm moving from North Carolina to Los Angeles, California in 2 weeks and I'm going to miss this concert. I love the Avett Brothers and I hope that they do another west coast tour again soon. I don't know when I'll be able to see them again.
Would I be spat upon and hated if I bring my entire fam to this show? My two year old son wants to go but I won't take him if it rains on others' parades.
should be good. i plan on going, getting my ticket soon.
Theres always gonna be some L.A. scenesters, but at the Fonda it was fairly diverse, not OCMS diverse, but diverse none the less.
I think that the L.A. music scene is pretty impressed with the Avett brothers. I think some of those uptight old guys are probably some of that crowd. They have the attitude of impress me, and i think a lot of them were.
The Orheum is a beautifully restored 1920s era theater in LA's old downtown. The acoustics are great and there is not a bad seat in the house. That being said I'm not sure how well the venue will lend itself to the usual manic energy of the band and the crowd.
My guess is the set list will highlight the Avetts slower quieter songs.
There is a cool bar downstairs. Very old school. Fireplace and dark wood paneling. There is also a bar next door (The Broadway?) that caters to the young and hip.
Saw them 3 times last summer in VA and KY. Can't wait to see the show(s) again this summer! I'm sure this venue will be great. The Avetts adjust to whatever setting they are in and come out with some amazing shows.
Will be in LA with a friend for a few days on a long roadtrip. Let me know where the Avett fans are meeting before the show.
So I'm not in the first 5, but I think I'm in the 6th? Whatever it's going to be awesome. I am so stoked.... even though it's a couple months away!
And also as far as the "sceney LA folk" vs "big music loving Avett fans" question goes, I have no idea. The last show in LA (at the Fonda) had so many different types of people, unfortunately that included a bunch of uptight old dudes who didn't know how to have a good time. I'm hoping it will be mostly other Avett fans, since they all seem to have a great time and are pretty friendly.
Man, internet pre-sale rocks! Just paid $30 a pop for 5th row center section at the Orpheum!! That's beyond phenomenal for LA. Can't wait!! See you all there.
I have a friend who lives in L.A., so I checked out the theater web site....that is a GORGEOUS theater. I would go to that show in a heartbeat if I lived on the West Coast. Scroll down and check out all of the photos if you go to their photo gallery.

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....
Broke down & bought a pair via Pre-Sale.
I'm in Row D, seats 10&12 according to ticket confirmation.
How 'bout the rest of you? Do you anticipate this show to be sceney LA folk, or will there be a good chance there are big music loving Avett fans at this one?

preshow fan meet-up at 7pm next door
Join us at the Broadway Bar next door to the Orpheum Theater. They open at 7pm and there'll be a few of us there before the show (maybe after, too?).
I'll have the Avett Nation banner with me and we'll be impossible to miss. It's gonna be a great night!
Hope to see you there.
My advice is simple: experience these artists.
I can't wait!
Your show in May seriously changed my life and could not believe you were coming back so soon like Seth promised at the end of the show!
so excited!
