High Energy and Inspired Show
Last night's show at the House of Blues was something I will stick with me for a long time.
It had been 4 Years since I had last seen The Avett's play in the streets of Greensboro, NC (Seth: "Everybody waive to the Engineer" -Train whistle blows from the track behind the stage-). I had built them up in my mind and couldn't wait to see them on the West Coast. They did not disappoint!
All the stuff from I and Love and You was woven beautifully into a mix of the polished fruits of their earlier albums. Personal highlights included "Shame", "The Ballad of Love and Hate”, “Slight Figure of Speech", "At the Beach" and "Head Full of Doubt / Road Full of Promise".
Another treat was to hear the opening act, Truth & Salvage Co. Their multiple part vocal harmonies, energy and passion for their music made the show fun to watch. You could tell where their music came from and their take on the culture shock of coming from the country to LA was spot-on. Plus, there's just no way to get around it: a dude playing slide guitar with a pocket knife is just awesome!
I can see what The Avett's saw in them and am glad that they brought them on for the show. You could also feel the respect and appreciation The Avett Brothers had for them as they joined them for the closing number of their set. I will definitely look them up in the future.
Wonderful show! Well worth the 2 hour drive and going to work the next day on 3 hours of sleep.
Can't wait for your next trip to SoCal!!!
