What an amazing setlist!

High energy show right out of the gate. And it spread seems to be a fave opener for them lately, and they kept that energy going. Colorshow came right out of KDH, with Seth on a different electric guitar than I have seen lately. Closer Walk with Thee was gorgeous- this was a 1st timer for me. The harmonies were nothing short of bone chilling. I was so happy to hear MLSTJ again- it doesnt get much better than that. Yardsale was a new arrangement with the whole band. It came alive more than any other time I had heard it. This arrangement needs to continue. Living of love was a surprise encore for me. I totally didnt expect that and it was gorgeous as always.

The crowd loved the show and the boys were ON IT last night. Such a fab night!

Was it a different version of Yard Sale? Reason is, so many people listed it has one of their least favorites and I wonder if the band saw that and said, "lets make them like this song".

I was there from Memphis as well, and would concur with you that it was a high energy show. The crowd seemed to be really into it, minus the short girl in front of me who had a giant person in front of her (felt bad for her!). The setlist was almost the perfect mix of the biggies mixed with my personal favorites. I was disappointed that they didn't play Laundry Room, but oh well!

I don't think that Yard Sale was anything different then what they have played previously. It was not one of my personal favorites, but it flowed well with the setlist. Good song, but I can think of other songs I would like to hear.

The hymn was incredible.

No Bob last night either. His replacement did a good job though.

I have heard Yardsale live a couple of times, and this arrangement is definitely different from the Gleam version as well as live versions I have heard. This arrangement used the full band, including Jacob and had a much more full, soulful sound. Not that I don't love Seth playing all on his own, but this song does seem to benefit from more instrumentation IMHO. I love Yardsale, though I know alot of people don't, but this arrangement could likely win over the folks that think it is meh. It was a highlight for sure.

Agreed- Closer Walk was A-MA-ZING. I was so glad to finally catch this one live. It was my only 1st timer heard last night, but I am happy for that because it doesn't always happen for me any more.

on another note, it was nice to hear Murder with the daughter reference as I was with my 11 year old last night for her birthday. We had an awesome time together Smiling It was her 5th show.

Being a Seth fan, I've always loved Yardsale. I've heard it live only once with just Seth with a completely quiet crowd and it was so beautiful and moving. Last week they soundchecked it in Texas in the arrangement kindermama mentioned. My friend and I stood outside with our mouths open stunned at how beautiful it sounded, especially the appropriate sad, mournful, soulful addition of Joe's cello. Thanks to the lady above, I got to hear it last night over the phone. It took my breath away and left me in tears. To me it was THAT GOOD.

It was a great show. I'm SOOO glad they moved it to Shryrock from the Arena. I'm a little sad that ticket sales weren't going as well as expected, but I believe that this was a better venue for the band. We had a good time and enjoyed talking to the other folks around our area.

Here's a video that I got of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." My wife & I were front row, center behind the pit.

That video is wonderful chaseabner! So nice to see the song performed to a crowd that remains quiet and respectful (well, at least the majority was). Nice setlist, nice to see Last Song to Jenny and Yardsale in there again

@chaseabner - BEAUTIFUL! thank you so much for posting that! By any chance did you get Yardsale or My Last Song to Jenny?

@ImLynn - That was the only video that I took last night. When I saw them coming to the front to do a more 'acoustic' song, I thought it would be ideal to take video. However, I didn't want to stand their with my phone up all night. Glad you enjoyed it.

Your phone is awesome!

I am curious for those of you who were there last night, what was your overall impression of the opening act? It wasn't my cup of tea, but would be curious to hear how others felt about her. I think her name was Jessica Mayfield?

@|11hill - I think she has a great voice and her songs are pretty good, but they greatly benefit from having a backing band. It's really hard to hold a crowd with just your voice and a guitar.

@chaseabner- Unless you are Scott or Seth Avett Sticking out tongue

I love JLM and think she has a great way of writing a song and her voice is very unique.. I enjoyed it, but thought the same... she really needs to add some layers and pick the tempo up a little... she is lovely though! The Avetts were so on point last night... i loved every second of it!

@JDawn - Indeed. Really hard, but not impossible. Smiling

Re: JLM. She has a lovely voice but it didn't seem she was happy to be there at all. I'm completely new to her, but it seems like music better suited to having a drummer at least. Sorta like Kate Miller-Heidke..

This show was by far the best concert (of any bad) I've ever been to

@chaseabner thank you for that video!

Get used to JLM. She opens a lot of shows. I've seen her no fewer than six times.

Big thanks to @chaseabner for the excellent video. "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" was one of the highlights for me and now I can re-live. I really loved "Down with the Shine" which I had not heard before and wish it were available in audio. I assume "Carpenter" will be on the next LP though. What a night!

I loved the show... it was a different vibe to my previous two shows (Charlotte and Greensboro), and a LOT smaller, which was kinda cool in a way. I missed the Avett boat when they played smaller venues close to home, sadly. Anyways, I was down in the small pit area, and it was great... I was closer 3 people back in the pit than I was front row in Greensboro! "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" was definitely a highlight for me, but I think my favorite moment was Talk on Indolence... there was SO MUCH energy for that song. Just made me grin. It was a great night, and my little sister (who'd never been to a real concert at all before this) said she was glad she ended up waiting and making the Avetts her first concert. Smiling

As for Jessica Lea Mayfield... I thought her voice was pretty, but the way she talked just made my older sister and I burst out laughing each time, especially the half-muttered breathy "hey" when she first spoke. She sounded either majorly bummed out to be there, or stoned. xD I do think she would have benefited from some backup, to give her songs a feeling of more variety.

Anyways, I enjoyed getting to see them in a non-hometown setting, and my older sister had a lovely "instead of Bachelorette party" night. Sticking out tongue
