"We took a pickup, a tent, and a shotgun," recalls Scott. "We went out thinking it was a wild frontier."

"you made it pretty when you put it on"

DirtCity you are absolutely correct. Great way to start a tour, and in my town of residence no less. Need to get some work done so I am not stressed taking this weekend off to go to HoB in Cleveland.

The boys are back y'all! The sound was great and the setlist was pretty damn amazing (especially compared to those we got over the end of the year run). If the Athens show is any indication, the rest of this tour is going to blow minds.

lildeadhead: that pen she uses to keep her setlists? it's a human-finger bone. dipped in the blood of the ones who yell out during "murder in the city". poetic, no?

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....

I'm crying that I was unable to get to Ohio! Oh man, I'm sick that I missed Nov Blue AND Offering. And I would be sad is on repeat on my playlist right now. Damn!

It was a great time...I always like the first show of a tour. The excitement seems to run through the band & the crowd, more so than later in the tour. I was THRILLED to hear November Blue. There was a cute little kid in sitting in front of me & he would occasionally curl up in the chair & doze off. However, as soon as the boys played some of their older stuff he would jump up & dance with his dad...too freaking cute! Good to see you littledeadhead! Thanks for taking care of business! Also Tim & Allie (& babybump bennet). Hope everyone made it home safely! Can't wait for Cleveland!

Hi all,
Yes, it was a great night of music put forth by the boys! Obviously, I don't post much, but my first one yesterday was on the 'Athens gathering' thread. Hopefully Casa wasn't too crowded for you all.
Hollyster, I was the dad in front of you with the cute little one (I'm biased, I'm allowed to say he's cute also, right?), and littledeadhead, I think we were right next to you (and now that I think about it, we might have been fairly close to you at the Huntington show? Hopefully it wasn't too strange for you to be sitting next to an 8 yr. old. I know you talked to him a bit pre-show. My son loves those guys, and although he was a bit tired (baskeball game before hand), he did get up and rock to the tunes that he loves. His favorite albums are Carolina Jubilee, Mignonette and Live Vol. 2. I Killed Sally's Lover made his night! Something about boys combined with a song complete with shotguns, and blades makes this song a hit with him and his younger brother. This was Nate's second show- took him with us to the Akron theater show this past summer also.
Anyway, as a long-time Athens resident, it was really something special to hear Seth talk about how they love this place so much. He really shoots straight from the heart. As one who has seen them 5-6 times here in Athens County, I can attest that they really are so well-received around here. Not that they aren't everywhere else, but it was nice to hear him reflect upon what they feel here in our little appalachian town. This was one thing my son couldn't stop talking about on the way out- "Dad, wasn't it cool how they talked about really liking it here?" "Do you think they really want this to be their second home town?"
Unfortunately, we missed out on Cleveland tix, but maybe we'll run into some of you at the Columbus show.

hollyster- hopefully I won't have to take care of business again in Cleveland. Can't wait to see you and yurplebiss again!

athens_avett_fan- I was right next to you and your lovely family. Your little boy was incredibly cute and a great show neighbor. I'd sit next to him over 90% of the crowd any day. Hope to see y'all at shows in the future!

What an amazing show in our town! We were leaning on the stage by the end and the energy coming from the boys was unbelievable. Thanks to our dear friend athens_avett_fan for the tickets--we love you guys and had so much fun. My 12-year-old son went with us too and can't stop talking about it. You know it has to be great music when you look at the crowd and see people of all ages dancing and singing to every line. Here's hopin' we can make it to the Columbus show...

That's the wonderful thing. There aren't too many musicians/bands out there that can transcend generations, but these guys definitely do that! I'm actually surprised we didn't see more kids with their families at the show.

Here ya go folks Smiling
