Aging Gracefully
When I was told at the CD release party that the woman I was sitting on the table with was the subject of the album cover I didn't get it. I had only heard parts of the album. The woman on the table was much younger and very attractive.
Now that I have listened to the album and read some of the interpretations of the themes of the album on here I totally get it. The theme of aging is beautiful and so eloquently captured. Now I look at the album cover and see the beauty in the wisdom of an aging American Indian woman, I see the beauty in the love and service of Mother Theresa, I see the real beauty not the People Magazine beauty that is so superficial in a person. The true beauty that a middle aged man sees in the mother of his grown children, the fondness with which a grandfather looks at his wife of 50 years. To grow old "without the pain" and "give my body back to the earth " is just such deep, rich, beautiful poetry in an album that is a testament to I and Love and You.
Friends that will " love me for the man I 've become not the man that i was." Friends that will love me when I grow old. Friends that will love me no matter what. "Will you understand when I am too old of a man." Magnificent. This album just keeps growing on me. The artistry gets richer each listen.

Wow, what a nice take, Docmike. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Could not have said it better, docmike. Thank you.
At the CD release show, there were a couple of people behind my daughter mocking someone. I didn't hear them, but when she told me later, I thought wow, here they are, blessed to be in this room, hearing these beautiful truths, and they aren't getting it. I feel lucky that I do and that you all get it, as well.

Meanwhile, there's Scott's voice, one of the most emotionally naked in any genre, merging with Seth's more guarded intimacy to sound like angels arm wrestling and tears drying on a cheek
I enjoyed this post and agree with your interpretation!

docmike, i enjoyed meeting you (and standing nearly on top of you) in that tiny room as well...and thanks so much for your thoughtful words. i am often too busy being blown away by the music itself to think deeply on the ever-present themes, so i really appreciate hearing your thoughts!
can't wait to reconvene in !
thanks for the post Doc. I struggle with interpretations, so your post was like cliffs notes for me. What you said makes so much sense.

I love your interpretation. That's a really beautiful way to look at it.

It's not the chase that I love it's me following you.
My name is Mark and I approve this message
Thank you all for your positive feedback.
Mary and Stirred -we shared a special experience and I feel bonded with you all.
I was touched that you were there with your daughter, Stirred. Mine couldn't make it.
She did come home from JMU for Springsteen last Saturday though. Very special sharing art and music with your kids.
Funny cliff notes analogy, love it.
Just my interpretation, that's all. I wouldn't take it to the bank.
Like to see things that way and these guys have blown open my heart chakra and it is pouring out.

There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky,
But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty
That I remember in my true love's eyes."

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different, we love to talk on things we don't know about.
Docmike, that's a beautiful interpretation of the an overarching message for the album. Thank you for sharing.
