Please post any ideas or knowledge/insight you have about the album cover art for I&LOVE&YOU in this thread.
Thanks,

should we assume that the artwork will be Scott's?
Unless Columbia sticks their nose in, I would imagine that it would be Scott's handiwork like every other album they've released. And I really don't see the boys signing a record deal where they didn't have final say so over album art.
I read somewhere the album cover is going to have a Black Sabbathy feel to it.

I am going to bet on a picture of the band.

Thanks TAB_Z! Very dark and interesting.

Anyone else think this image is a bit unusual? I love that the new album cover is artwork of scott's, but for their first release on a major record label, I thought it'd be different..like bobzimmerman said, a pic of the band or something.
Very interesting. I like it a lot, though not what I expected.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.
It reminds me of the vanitas genre.

it does seem very dark and definitely not what i expected. This makes me even more curious about how the whole vibe of the album is going to be.

I still kind of like the first version.

i thought it was going to be all those brown, white, and orange apostrophes that they've been using as a backdrop.
don't care for the pictures AS an album cover art.
I love the cover art. It will look amazing on the 12” LP. I hope it is a gatefold cover like the vinyl Second Gleam.
I like that they chose to go with something different. Was just discussing with Marysstikal and saying that if they'd put their faces on the cover, they'd be sure to sell more albums.
I love that they are going with what they want here. Not that I would know, but I seriously doubt this would be the label's first choice for a debut album, so I love that this is their choice!

And your loveliness, no, it doesn't help
No, your beautiful smile don't help
I agree with Wee_Dave. Definitely dark... but I like it.
I think it's interesting that it's not a drawing along the same lines as the Emotionalism blackbird. My first guess was that the cover would be a picture of the band. My second guess was that it would be a drawing of Scott's that would end up being as trendy as the blackbird, and everyone would run out and get new tattoos in the next half hour. It's an intriguing picture and choice, and I'm excited to hear more about its significance.

I love that picture. Every time I look at it, it's different. Looks like I've replaced Robby Kreiger in the Doors and Bob Z is now a member of ... is that the Platters?
Also, I just found Waldo.
I think the painting Scott did is awesome. The guy truly is a Renaissance Man worthy of all our admiration.
That being said....it's TOTALLY not what I expected, defies tradition thus far, and may have to grow on me. I'm really kinda shocked, for lack of a better term. Not as scary as the cover he did for Jessica Lee Mayfield's cover, but still a little disturbing with the black irises and skull.
That's not a bad thing. Maybe it's a visual representation of the changes in direction with the band. I dunno, I liked the teardrop cover on Amazon truthfully.
Those are just my opinions.
Peace out, y'all. Nameless Dot is no more. All you self-righteous hypocrites (and there are more than a couple) can breathe a sigh of relief.
Maybe.

I like it, but I can't tell what the thing in the lower right corner is
Dark and I love it!!! I don't know....just a thought but could there be physical characteristics of the band in this one person? Just a thought.
"Also, I just found Waldo."
Me too! I always liked that picture, but I secretly knew it couldn't be the cover...I mean, how could it be without the Greensboro Girls in it?

I just don't understand it... I guess that's the point. Don't know how I feel about it just yet. I definitely liked the apostrophe background better, but I'm glad that they're going for depth with this cover. I cannot WAIT for September.
what is this apostrophe background? anyone got a picture?

Check out the background in this shot.
hmmm....not sure what I think yet. It reminds me of something very familiar but I'm not sure what. It's dark. It's a bold choice for an album cover and I do love that. But as to the image itself, like Nameless Dot said, it "may have to grow on me"
beautiful...wait til you all see the rest of it.
zach: i think the thing in the lower right corner is a skull. not 100% but with all the drawing classes i've taken, i've spent hours and hours studying and drawing skeletons/skulls and thats what it looks like to me...
I agree that I was not expecting this kind of album art for their first major label release; however, I am glad they picked this over the "sgt. Peppers-esque" cover. Everyone needs to remember that these fellas are not new to this whole scene. I mean how many years have they been putting out albums?...Enough that they obviously don't care about putting a P.C. image that will sell more albums on the cover. They are a fantastic band and I miss the times when they could be seen in small clubs and venues. My wife saw them at..hmm...Cat's Cradle or Local 506 in 2005 or 2004. How I wish I could've seen them there in such an intimate setting. I am happy for all their success, but, like all other bands who have gone from small to big, I will miss the "good ole days".
Go Avett Bros...do what you do

Okay so when I first saw this I was like "Ummmm what?" It really through me for a loop!!
But the more I look the more compelling it's becomes. It's really intriguing me. Since this IS their first album on a major label I do agree that it is a bold move. Which makes me appreciate it even more. Really I love they didn't play it safe and say, just throw a photo of themselves on the cover. However this particular painting, I'm still not sold on it. Can't wait to see the rest!! Gotta love TAB for always switching it up.
Yah it definitely looks like a skull to me..?

Oh and even though that sgt. pepper type photo was oh so cute and made me smile. I thought it was a joke. It's a bit ridiculous.

The sgt peppers-esque is just a gag cover made by SundayRehab

jeremy! what a terrible tease you are. how 'bout you show us something brand new of yours to tide us over?
haha oh okay catfisher

well it's pretty fun he did a good job on it.
glad it's not the album cover tho for sure!!

-KAY
i love it i think the music is going to be as big a departure as this cover art is
I wonder if the skull is Bob?
(Sorry...lame joke that would only mean anything to someone familiar with the "Dresden Files".)
Looks like a native American woman to me. ? Just an observation.

this a beautiful piece of art, but is an odd choice for an album cover. but, i like it.

"beautiful...wait til you all see the rest of it."
that makes it more mysterious! i am now more anxious to see it all! thanks!
I'm not a huge fan, and I'm not even sure it'll grow on me. I think it's an interesting piece of work outside of being the album cover. I love that it's a Scott Avett original, but I was really counting on something incorporating the tear drops.
I'm not sure about how i feel. I'm all for artistic control. It seems like this will intrigue a lot of observers. Imagine walking past that album cover in Borders and not picking it up...
Will there just be an "The Avett Brothers, (present) I and Love and You" sticker placed on the plastic packaging? Or will it just be printed along the side of the record/c.d? How else will this record be packaged? These are all questions that this unique cover art brings to my mind.
Tis sexy.
I like the picture... i think its incredible. but i'm not sure about it as an album cover of theirs. It just doesnt "fit" or "flow" like the rest of their covers. Most have either "doodles" or "sketch" type feel to them.....
BUT.... They've grown as ARTISTS. so theres a comparison there.... (in the musical/songwriting sense, and like an artist going from sketches, and doodles... to full blown oil canvas paintings).
and sundayrehab... i LOVE that pic. had to save it and make it my desktop photo for a little while. LOL.

and from MTV Philippines (www.mtvphil.com)
"Her brand of music is unique as it expresses how she really is as an artist and as a person--honest and sincere. Her songs speak from the heart and soul. Amidst all the hype of bands and bossa, she is the artist that will fill the void and set a new trend in Philippine music."
"Unlike other new fly-by-night artists, Julianne doesn't feel the need to label her music. "My music is me," says the beautiful singer-songwriter."
Oh, and for the record, I love it.
Are you referencing this other artist because she bears some relation to the painting/cover art, or is her name and values set just a coincidence, or . . . ?
Interesting find, milesmom. I wonder about her connection to Scott and the other boys. Something to think on, for sure.
