Annoying

Annoying

I understand if the music moves you, but it is really distracting seeing these people crying at shows. Get a grip, do you think your heroes, the avett bros ever cried at a concert. It is very annoying, do it at home please.

No, it is just weird and I wanted to point it out, Sorry.

I've cried at concerts. I've even cried during "Angels in the Outfield" and for the entire movie of "The Notebook." Some things just really hit home hard at certain times, and when you are participating in something that is as emotionally investing as a concert, its bound to just come out.

+1 for crying.

you actually got +5 for crying/posting.

(would insert crying face if boards allowed)

I don't mean to but I always cry.
It's not normally sobbing or anything and I don't think that I am distracting anyone but I cry.
Lockwes is right, once your heart is in it, there is an emotional tie.
I don't only cry at the shows.
The songs mean a lot to me and I know I'm not the only one.

Right on lockwesmonster
+1 for crying!

I rather see someone crying than hear some nasty drunk screaming... For the record.

but seriously dude, how can you just tell someone not to cry, as they are in the midst of crying? that'd add confusion to tears. and then it'd be annoying.

An emotional response to music is weird to you? As one of my tattoos says, music is my religion. Sometimes a spiritual moment makes me cry, deal with it whiner.

I've even cried during "Angels in the Outfield"

Of all the things that I'd like to eliminate at concerts, crying isn't even on the radar.

I love A League of Their Own!

I almost always cry at an Avett Brothers concert. In fact, I don't think I have ever NOT cried. I am annoyed by people who judge people who cry. Laughing out loud

This Thread is now about awesome baseball movies.

The Sandlot and Field of Dreams top my list.

"You're Killing me Smalls!"

The Sandlot is my favorite!

"That ain''t true!"

"Yeah, it is!"

No, it is not, no one answered my original question. Since you all want to be either Scott or Seth, would they cry at a concert?

Does anyone remember Rookie of the Year? It's not that good of a movie, but I loved it when I was a kid.

Who didn't cry during 'Rookie of the Year'?

Obvious troll is obviously obvious.

I got teared up during the second encore at HOB this month. Watching everyone in the hall on their feet, clapping, cheering and shouting, I couldnt help it.

This afternoon I watched "Saving Private Ryan" and bawled my eyes out, again.

Heck, I bawled my eyes out watching My Dog Skip the other night.

It's not that anyone wants to be Seth or Scott, it's people that can relate to the lyrics. My memorial tattoo for my dad is a quote from murder in the city. So when I hear it I tear up because of the emotion it evokes. Someone has a problem with it stop staring at me and watch the show.

I understand if crying upsets you, but it is really distracting reading about people being annoyed about people crying at shows. Get a grip, do you really think the Avett Brothers care if people cry at their shows? Do you really think people who do express themselves via liquid emotion wanna listen to you whining about them? It is very annoying, do it offline please.

Oh, and pass the tissues.

I'm with Angi!

This discussion has brought me to tears.

Time to listen to PGF Locust to cry some more...

jonnymohegan, are you even a fan? Most of your previous posts have been negative, towards the band or the fans.

Enjoy the show, dont worry about others. Its a HUGE waste of time. If people get emotional at shows, they do. You will never change that. Music means different things to different people. Leave it be.

Love the Sandlot!

I bet Scott or Seth has cried at some point.

I bet not at a Hall and Oats concert.

The weirdest thing I found myself crying during was during a documentary on the Daytona 500 when Bobby Allison came in 1st and his son Davey came in second.

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but I think my favorite baseball movie is that one with Kevin Costner. Not Bull Durham, the other one...wasn't it called Field of Trolls?

That line "If you feed it, they will come"...it's just so true, dontcha think?
Damn shame that we can't seem to help but feed 'em, eh?

hey, how about this question, jonnymohegan? what if you and i are at the same avett brothers show, i see you fall down a flight of stairs, and i laugh so hard that i cry? does that count?

and by the way, your "original question" wasn't even a question, according to the punctuation used.

go bottle up some more emotions and leave us alone.

Angi

That just made me LOL for real.

Didn't anyone else think Scott was teary at the end of "Murder" last night?

+points for being a female that cries at EVERY avett show Smiling

Black hole sun won't you come and wash away my tears

jonnymohegan....did you ever read about why they chose "Emotionalism" as a title? The nutshell, is that the term normally has a negative connotation and why should that be so, when as humans we are nothing but emotions and flesh and a brain, driven by emotions. I think it is the essence of what draws me to them. They do not hesitate to nor are they ashamed to express themselves...lyrically or otherwise.

"I'm a little nervous about what you'll think when you see me in my swimmin trunks"
"I'd like to say that I'm a faithful man, but it may not be true"
"kill the doubt that strangles my self worth"
"Tell my daughter that I love her....make sure her mother knows the same...always remember there is nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name" (as sang last night)

I could go on and on here but the point is, I think they are moved and grateful that people react the way that they do to their music. and I even hope it is somehow a goal of theirs... I certainly feel the emotions in the room when I've seen them and it just adds to the charm...and the charge..

nothing short of thankful for what these guys do...read it and weep...

Seth & Scotty certainly are bad-asses, but I don't think anyone here is shallow enough to "want to be them." But come on OP, you cannot condemn someone for having an emotional reaction to an emotional artform......music is personal to everyone......songs take on different meanings for everyone. You never know what someone is going through when they get emotional during a show. One of my best friends cries every time she hears November Blue b/c that song reminds her of her Grandmother passing away.....and the song isn't about someone dying. I cry every time I hear Murder.....it hits me b/c of the love I have for my family, but mostly it reminds me of my dog (who is family to me).....he is going on 13 yrs and I know he and I have very little time left. I know that might be lame to some, but that's what it does to me. That's what's so great about TAB, they evoke so much emotion from all of us. So bring on the tears folks......there is nothing annoying about making it rain at shows.

Peace,

Jason

PS--I can't speak for any baseball movies that make me cry, but Marley & Me is torture!! I lost my mind when I read the book, but the movie made me a complete zombie!! I bought the Blu-ray, and have only watched it once and have vowed never to watch it again. If you have a dog, avoid this one like the plague!!

You guys, it's cute of you to answer this troll personally, but why bother?

Besides, no one needs validation for their tears, not even that troll after he falls down the stairs and is upset when no one helps him back up. (which of course would never happen)

"Didn't anyone else think Scott was teary at the end of "Murder" last night?"

I didnt think so...at the very end he broke a string which was the reason for the pause.

"No, it is not, no one answered my original question. Since you all want to be either Scott or Seth, would they cry at a concert?"

No one here is trying to "be" one of the guys in the band; that's ridiculous and insulting. And I don't know personally if they've ever cried at a concert they've been to or if they've ever cried after hearing a very moving song. But I think it's pretty cold to think that music can't move someone to tears just as easy as someone can be moved to a wide, glowing smile, no matter who they are. It was a long time before I could hear "If It's The Beaches" without crying, and even now it's kinda' hard. I don't think people are crying because they're seeing the Avett Brothers (I've seen this reaction in videos of Elvis and The Beatles); it's because of the music.

Hey I tear up for some commercials so stay away from me.

I am going to go with The Natural. I liked Bull Durham also although I don't remember crying.

I have a theory that it is impossible to make a bad submarine movie. I have tested this theory carefully over the years beginning in 1958 with Run Silent, Run Deep. It may be because there are rarely any women in them.

I guess you havent seen Below?

I cried last night and at night two at Myrtle Beach. Salvation Song. I think I also cried the very first time I saw them, from excitement at actually seeing them in person. But I'm pretty emotional... the tears seem to have a side effect of increasing my joy.

"you're the words... in a song.. that Hoon sang to me...."

I can't speak to crying at shows, because I've never been moved to, but I can say that after a bad breakup, there are definitely Avett songs I could not listen to without breaking down. If It's The Beaches being one of them. And as far as movies go, I also can't speak to baseball films, but I can say that the movie Igby Goes Down gets me every time with the scene between a young Igby and Bill Pullman as his father having a mental breakdown. The line "You see Igby, there's this great pressure, constantly coming down on me; crushing me." Makes me well up every time, probably just because Bill Pullman is one of the most underrated excellent actors of all time. Okay, thread un-hijacked.

what is it about baseball movies that gets me all sentimental? i don't even like real-life baseball. field of dreams is my favorite, though i guess that's kind of cheating, as there's very little actual baseball playing in it.

though as far as sports movies go, football always hits me hardest. rudy is forever my go-to sobbing movie when i'm in need of a slightly less girly cry.

Oh! I forgot about Rudy! That movie has made me well up too, and I was a full grown man by the time I saw it.

Good grief, for football-ish movies, how about Radio?

oh lord, million dollar baby had me suppressing racking sobs and struggling to breathe in the theater. though i'm curious whether its power over me has waned, i don't think i will never watch that one again. not that much of a glutton for punishment!
