yeah, i was disappointed when there were no pictures of the avetts on the front page, but then real excited when i opened it up and saw all those pictures and the interview.
"I think people came to see [the student groups] and brought some new people into Pack Howl"
I think that it would be much more accurate to say that people came to see The Avett Brothers based on the mad run to the stage and the fact that alot of people left after their set.
Its hard to judge who the real draw was. I watched the crowd file in while the pep rally was going on. I would say that the Guster Tshirts outnumbered the Avett shirts 3 to one. The Guster fans had to be there for the Avett's set and I am sure they loved it. Many of the Avett fans headed out after their set but there was still a large crowd. If the line up had been reversed I am sure many of the Guster fans would have left before the Avetts, which would have been their loss. I like Guster and have seen them several times. I still left during the middle of their set because of the sound in that venue. I wouldn't have considered leaving during the Avett's set. I guess that's the difference.
Pretty much. The cheering and applause seemed noticeably louder for the live music than for the pep rally (especially when the Avetts took the stage). I didn't stick around for Guster so I can't say for sure, but I do think Guster probably realized pretty quickly that TAB is a tough act to follow. TAB tore it up!
I loved the interview. There need to be more interviews with the Bros. I love their sense of humor and the way they interact during interviews. This interview reveals the great attitudes that they have even when they are tired from the stresses of extensive touring. They have the right way of looking at the world and what it throws at them. I don't think most touring musicians can manage to sustain the level of energy and positivity for this long, but I'm thankful that TAB have figured out how.
From looking at their tour schedule I see they'll have a couple weeks off around Thanksgiving and then a couple more weeks off in mid-December. I'm hoping they'll be able to sit back, relax and reflect on this crazy year and enjoy all that they've accomplished.
I know we've all had a better year because of the Bros. and I think we're all ready to celebrate that and show our appreciation at the end-of-year shows.

so the boss is an avett fan eh?
The end of that interview just made me chuckle.
"the least you can do is hang out for the headlining act."
That should be a firm message about who the real draw was.

Wouldnt surprise me in the least. Bruce is a pretty regular guy, he just happens to be "The Boss".
On a side note, anybody took a listen to his new album? Its the best thing he has put out since "Born to Run".

TECHNICIAN: Who are your musical influences?
SETH: Scott Avett.
SCOTT: Seth Avett. Bob's biggest one is Bruce Springstein. Right Bob?
BOB: I wouldn't deny it.
SCOTT: You know he loves Emotionalism, Bob. He bought it two months ago. He heard us on Sirius Radio.
