David Mayfield put this on his twitter
Could this be made from the ace of cakes. it looks like it. I really hope they make it into an episode.

Seth towers over the other guys in that pic.

sulk... sulk...
That is so excellent. And Bob's looking very dapper.

That is awesome. Wasn't there a thread about them being involved with the Ace of Cakes show?
Neat-o!
Are they in a freezer? They all look cold. Brr!

Wonder if it'll actually be on the show

The cake was for Ace of Cakes, and there were people filming at the show tonight in Baltimore. The Ace of Cakes was in fact at the show, if that"s what she's called, not familiar myself.
Okay, what in the hell are you guys babbling about? I saw a link to a picture of the Avett Brothers standing in a room, and hear a lot of talk of cakes. I do not make the connection.
We talked to the ace of cakes folks after the show and they said that it will be part of the segment of a coming episode. Apparently the brothers did two songs for the bakery staff earlier today. They were filming the crowd as well as the first two songs of the set tonight. Super cool!
Blasto, that's not a banjo on the table. It's a cake.
Okay, that's awesome!
WHAAAAAT!?!?!? I want that as my next birthday cake... March 31 people, get on it!

Ace of Cakes is run by this creative baker named Duff and his staff - it's a cool Baltimore business, with a show on Food Network, I believe.

"Ronnie and Neil, Ronnie and Neil

Speaking there minds on how they feel
Let them guitars blast for Ronnie and Neil"
yep, the show is great! i do wonder how the cake actually tastes though with all that they do to them.

Burn the questions. Burn the shame.
I wonder how those cakes taste also - they're certainly cool looking, but it seems like they're just a mass of icing and fondant with very little cake. It was cool seeing them at the show last night. Awesome show, as always.
YES. Ace of cakes is one of my favorite shows. so glad to hear it confirmed that they filmed the episode

decide what to be and go be it.
My wife could so do that cake.....it looks awesome!!!

"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
That cake is incredible! I too wonder about the tastiness of them. They make them so far in advance and then they just kind of sit around.. never really sounded that appealing to me. Especially for how expensive they must be!
actually they aren't made that far in advance. if you watch the show, they usually are down to the last few hours before they make the delivery.

I like how Seth is in a white t-shirt and Bob is standing next to him in what looks like a tux...
"actually they aren't made that far in advance. if you watch the show, they usually are down to the last few hours before they make the delivery."
The show may ruin my perception of it, but sometimes it looks like the really elaborate cakes take quite a few days to get just right (and rightfully so - that looks like HARD WORK). I guess it doesn't really matter though, I'll never be able to enjoy one anyway. Wah.
alyx- my husband's grandmother had a cake for her 90th birthday from Charm City Cakes (it was a knitting basket & was featured on the show). The actual cake part was delicious & moist, but the icing was pretty hard. All in all, it was really tasty.
They use rolled fondant to decorate the cakes - it contains gelatin and has the consistency of a semi-hard pie crust. I think it's disgusting and a waste of perfectly good cake.
I think it's really cool how they build the cakes, and they are definitely artisans, but give me a damn sheet cake with buttercream frosting any day of the week. (or a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, or a German chocolate cake with coconut frosting or.....well, you get the picture.)

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different, we love to talk on things we don't know about.
they just look too cool to eat... that and i'd feel kind of sick from spending that much $ on a cake. did anyone see the one where they made the alien creature from some video game? super cool looking.

Love this show! That's so neat they did a segment, that cake looks really awesome. I was wondering why there were videographers during the opening song last night!
For those of you that watch the show, did you see the one where a guy proposed to his girlfriend by taking her to Charm City Cakes to take pictures outside, making her think they got lucky by just "bumping" into the staff, and then getting to go inside for an impromptu tour? They made a huge fortune cookie cake with the ring inside that said "will you marry me" - it was really cute

Also, I love this other pic where Scott is liking the banjo cake and Joe looks like he might have a camera in his hand: http://twitpic.com/lny9r

hahaha..anjanatte....I thought the same thing. I thought Seth looked like he was freezing!
They definitely filmed the front row for the episode. I'm fearful that we will be on TV dancing manically to "And it Spread."
I am definantly getting a cake like that for my next birthday!!!!! Lol.

Yes, let's hope that 1. we don't look like idiots--I've had enough of that lately 2. you can't hear us and/or 3. they don't use any of that footage.
Mary Alice from Ace of Cakes is a huge Avett fan and was at the show. As mentioned, the guys did an "in store" at Charm City Cakes and then they presented the cake at the venue, I think.

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.
I also hope that no one who reads Brooklyn Vegan watches Ace of Cakes, just in case. Hmph.
This is awesome! This may have been answered already, but does anyone know when this episode will air?
Also, who else thinks Bob should wear a bow tie to every show from now until ever?

[ something more to say than 'hello and goodbye, i hope that you're okay' ]
"Also, who else thinks Bob should wear a bow tie to every show from now until ever?"
Me! I love Bob. I love bow ties. I loved hearing Bob sing Letter. I think I almost dropped dead.
And I'm with Jen. I really hope they don't use any of that footage. Nobody wants to see me dance on cable t.v, or on any t.v., ever.
so when might it air?

Did anyone ever hear when and if this is going to air?
--
The Avetts are a rare talent, timeless yet current, and capable of singing straight to a single soul while broadcasting to the ever-increasing masses.
I've been periodicaly checking the tv listings for the upcoming shows on their food network site. Nothing has been mentioned yet.
I saw Duff's band (soihadto) in NYC in, I think, early October and I asked him when he though the Avett episode would air. He said to look for it in about three months, so I'm guessing it'll air sometime in early 2010. He also had nothing but good things to say about the boys.
james.
^thats good to hear. sounds like it will def air

decide what to be and go be it.
First, i can't imagine anyone having bad things to say, they seem so personable.
Second, Awesome Cake!

I want to have friends, that I can trust, that love me for the man I've become, not the man that I was.
i wonder how delicious it is.
mmmm... banjo

Always surprised to find more.
It's finally listed in my DVR and set to record--yay! Why, oh why does the episode have to be entitled "Oprah!"?
--
Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.

So excited!
Bump, 'cause it's this week.

i'm pretty damn excited. totally don't watch the food network anymore, but i remember i did like ace of cakes a little bit more than other stuff.
but the bros. are gonna be on so...that's one pretty good excuse to watch!
does anyone know of an online place to watch? we don't have the cable, and my cable-alternative just stopped their service.
