Avett Memories!!
I live in Rockhill, SC and have loved the Avett Brothers for a very long time. I was just thinking about all the shows that i've been to and started to get a little nostalgic. I remember seeing them play at this little bar in rockhill called the long branch which was the first time that i relized that these guys make fans were ever they go. They use to play shows at Winthrop University which was awesome because i had the hance to speak with them and shake their hands.. But i think my fondest Avett memories are in the old neighborhood theater in Charlotte, NC!!! I attended every new years show those guys played their and considered these some of my fondest memories.. The blumingthal center was great.. then Asheville was awesome.. but to see these guys play in the neighborhood theater was amazing!! I think they play harder for their true fans, They play louder for their old fans, and they play with more emotion for their loyal fans!

But I'm on it. I'm on it."
TinMan - were you a Trojan or a Bearcat?? Just wondering - My mom lives in Rock Hill and I spend much of my time growing up there... She lives over near the airport now....
But yeah - I completely agree... i think its funny how things have changed and progressed from how they play and are received.... back in the earlier days they used to say "its soo great to be back in Charlotte, etc. etc. nothing feels like home and its so great to have a home crowd"... i think its cool / funny how any time they come to anywhere in NC, SC, etc. they say it... b/c they feel more and more "home" at a lot of different places across the country...
I've been fortunate enough to see these guys in all kinds of settings, from watching them with 50 people up to 7,000+ all of the Southeast and a couple other parts of the US ..... but for me - what I call, major milestones have been some of my favorite times and moments.... I remember the Avett Jubilee when they had their largest crowd to date in Verizon Wireless.... I also remember seeing them for the first time at Telluride Bluegrass fest - that was an awesome experience for many reasons but it was the first time that I saw the Avetts in a pretty un-familiar setting with a bunch of people, who didn't know these guys from a hole in the wall - but by the time they closed with Salvation Song - most of the crowd was on their feet, clapping..... Even last year when they were opening for Widespread Panic, I remember being actually nervous to see how the Panic crowd was going to receive them..... There were only about 75 folks there or so to begin the set and only a couple of us knew what was up.... it was cool talking to them after the show and they said it really jacked them up b/c it took them back a couple of years to when they were still cutting their teeth but then also said it was great having fans like us there b/c it made it easier, etc - just kind of a cool moment and it was like they were back in 2006 again..... Another cool day for me was the actual release of Emotionalism and they did their NC state release tour. I got off work and headed straight to Mani-fest records to catch their mini-show.... That was before the hype of Emotionalism caught fire and one of the last "small" shows I was able to see of The Avetts....
man - didn't mean to type so much but kind of ran away with the topic.... i guess it happens.... but yeah, these are some of the times that particularly stick out for me....

How about the BB’s in-store a year earlier in May of 06? That was about a quarter of the size crowd they had at Manifest, great set with no amps or mikes. They did a sweet Smoke In Our Lights.

you mean Nemo or oh what a nighmare.... I remember seeing them multiple times playing inside and outside ( yes at the same time) of single-wide trailers with people moshing on trampolines....
nice - my younger sister graduated from Northwestern and my brother and I would've - however growing up in Rock Hill was a bit too much for us and we moved up to live with our Dad in Concord when we were young....

The first time I saw them was at Winthrop, early part of 2005. Man, I wish I would have shot some video, it was a great show. Bob even had a solo.
