just heard head full of doubt on idol haha

Replies for this Board Topic

I just ran over hear to say the same thing. woo hoo.

ugh.

Heard it too! What a suprise!

Preceded by a Swell Season song. Yesterday they played Blister in the Sun by Violent Fems. They must have a new guy picking the background tunes.

Yes, I know most of you are too proud to watch (or at least to admit it).

oh, i thought you meant someone was singing it as a routine. i guess background music is moderately better.

I was so shocked, but thought it was pretty great, especially since the audition was at The Ryman!

Heard it too. My wife picked up on it first. I listen to them so much that hearing them didn't even register as being out of the ordinary. It's always great when they turn up unexpected. Even if it is on Idol. Love those boys!

I heard it and was so happy and proud. That is quite an enormous audience..Good for them!
...And I will never be ashamed to admit I watch Idol and love it. It's one show that I can watch with my daughters that we are all equally entertained.

I reacted like a mother - so proud. I hope they benefit somehow. Do you think the show has to pay them for use of the song?

I was so excited to hear it!! Thank goodness for DVR.

bz -I'll admit it. We were watching and I was in the kitchen at the time. Cathy heard it and rewound it for me.

I threw my arms up like....wait...this is The Avett Brothers....then I started singing along and realized I was the only one in the room. Imma nerd for these boys.

My wife and I watch the auditions of American Idol here in Vietnam, because the show is almost always on, and they're usually alright for a good laugh. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised when that song came on.

Hey, HoJ! Great to see you. Hope all is well in Vietnam for you!

I saw it tonight on DVR. Sweet! Has anyone every heard someone use an Avett Brother's song as their audition song? Should only be a matter of time. My would guess I&L&Y, but my wife is guessing Swept Away. Always good on idol to tug on the heart strings during the audtions. peace, Tim

Honestly hate the show. Good for the Avetts and the exposure,If you want to hear an outstanding instrumental piano cover of "Head full of Doubt
please check out my earlier thread of my boy's you tube video. He is extremely talented and trying to get his name out there. Peace.

Leedle, thanks for posting that. I really enjoyed it! He definitely has talent..

LOL, I was at my computer while my wife was watching AI and I about jumped out of my chair hearing HFOD on that show. As mentioned, it was used as dramatic background music as the program featured the trials and tribulations of some up and coming AI star in Nashville.

Coming on the eve of us seeing the AB in South Bend, I used it as a selling point with my wife who is rather bewildered by my conversion at age 48 to the Avetts("When did you start liking 'banjo' music?") as she is a fan of the American Idol show: "See honey, even AI knows a great song when it hears one; this is the band we're seeing Saturday night, they must be really popular!"

Forgive me, I'm an AB newbie but a long-suffering husband who knows to play on common interests to spark enthusiasm with the spouse! Yeah, let's hope that is as close as our beloved Avett Brothers get to American Idol.

@ HoosierJohn, I had to laugh when I read your post. My husband also started liking "banjo music" when he was 45! He came home with Mignonette and asked "can you listen to this"? We became instant TAB fans and Wilmington will be our 17th time seeing them! Our "Avett trips" have been so much fun and we love sharing the "Avett love" with each other. And it spreads Smiling

@leedle, please stop posting the same link in thread after thread.

igotdvds,
I believe that is only the 1st or maybe 2nd time leedle has posted the link.

It has been posted NUMEROUS times by the creator of the video and someone else involved with him, though. I dig the self promotion, but agree that we don't need a link to the video within every single sub-forum of the board. I believe that's going to turn people off as opposed to helping spread the word.

I think the link fit fairly well within the context of this thread. He could be the next AI.

I am totally out of the closet on this one. AI represents most of what is bad about pop music but at least some of what is great. There are always a couple of legitimate singer/songwriters in the mix, several excellent voices and the country's best karaoke. There is plenty of drama and even more humor.

I talked to Scott about the use of HFOD. He kinda shrugged his shoulders and said their policy is to pretty much allow use of their tunes on ALMOST any legit tv show or movie. He also said they hadn't found any commercial offer that fit. Makes sense. A tune on a show doesn't imply endorsement of the show whereas a commercial does.

Excume me igotdvds. I'm proud of my boys work and wanted to share it. I started one thread and responded to a thread about the song being covered both on Idol and in my boys video. If that is your definition of thread after thread then i'll certainly do my best to stop repeating myself. Not trying to be annoying. Thought some would enjoy it

Here's the link to Avetts on Idol...be sure to watch the whole thing...it's worth it to see this 15 year old sing with Steven Tyler!

Watch it until Idol pulls it down...

i tried to watch it and it says private even after i signed in. Sad

Here's another one...for however long it lasts!

Already, Lauren Alaina is considered the winner by some bookmakers. The show is absurd but I like it!

They used Head Full of Doubt again tonight. A much longer portion. It was used during a segment when a guy named Scotty (from NC) was finding out if he was advancing to the Top 24. He had just been talking very sincerely about how he wanted to be a stand up guy and a gentleman and here comes HFOD. It fit perfectly. I would not be surprised it the clip is posted to youtube.

And several of us had a little freakout Smiling
It was indeed used at the perfect time.

Beautiful fit for the song. What a nice story for it to be background to.

Yes, we do watch the show in my house.

This is shaping up to be a very good year.

That is awesome and thanks for posting the link LindaM.

Top 24 Finalist Paul McDonald just tweeted that he's thinking about singing an Avett Brothers or Mumford & Sons song for his next performance. Voting hasn't actually happened for this week since their first performances haven't aired, but Paul has a lot of popularity on the internet right now. I doubt he'll have a problem making it through.
