Avett Theropy
I'm not sure if anyone else has ever listened to an Avett's song and said "man, their singing to me!" A couple years back I was blindsided by a seperation and ultimately a divorce. Never saw it coming, tried everything to prevent it but she went nuts. For a long time I was crushed and then I was listening to an old TAB album and listened to the words of "Pretty Girl from Raliegh." Man, it was like they were singing to me.
So I quit feeling sorry for myself, realized life was good (which now I'm remarried and have truly found my one love) and things are better than ever. Scott Avett and I grew up together and we always get together when the boys are in Athens, GA. I told Scott about this and he was the same old helpful friend from back at MPHS. At a show a couple years ago he announced he was playing this song for me. Too cool!
Avett Theropy! You can't beat it!
Sympathy is a waste of my HIGH!!!!!

Yes... there are several songs that I know the Avetts have written just for me. ha ha Seriously though, it really is amazing how much their songs can influence your mood. What a wonderful thing to have in our crazy lives.
Very sweet story, thanks for sharing. I love stories that reinforce what nice guys the Avetts are...
I know the feeling that they are singing right to you, but its me they are singing to.
PGF Raleigh is one of my all time favorites too, the lyrics and emotion in that song are amazing!
They wrote "A Gift for Melody Ann" for me before I met her.
They wrote "Offering" for me when I first fell in love with her.
They wrote "Swept Away" for our future wedding dance.
They wrote "Song to Jenny" for me when she was thinking of leaving
They wrote "PG Cedar Lane" for me when she did.
I thought they wrote "And it Spread" for me, but it doesn't look that way.
But they were nice enough to write "Tear Down the House" instead.
For Sure!!!
Theropy?
What all these songs are showing us I guess, is that we all sort of go through much of the same things in our lives. Listening to their songs remind me that I am not alone in my struggles.

Love it. The Avetts sure do write some amazing stuff.
"if it's the beaches."
The Avett Brothers have helped my life tremendously... they're the first band that my husband and I can listen to and both be happy!
my girlfriend and i were struggling with our relationship and i listened to the greatest sum for the first time and the line: "to hold you down to plant your feet's a far cry from my destiny" really got to me. it made me realize what i needed to do to give both of us the healthiest relationship possible.
every avett song has a lesson or and idea that anyone can discover for themselves and apply directly to their lives. i've matured so much just from listening to the avett bros. their music is healing and teaching for the heart/mind/soul!
God bless the avett brothers for everything they give to us
They speak to me in a way no other band ever has. I am not someone who cries much at movies, tv, books, etc., yet I've teared up or had tears rolling down my cheeks (and some actually sobbing during PG Airport a couple of days ago--can't believe I am admitting that, but...I can tell you guys, right?) during their songs time and again. Never to any other band consistently--a song may get me in a certain mood with other bands, maybe I'll get choked up, but never consistenly like this band. And of course, their songs can make me happier than any other band's can, as well. And if I'm at a live show--multiply any of these emotions by ten!
It feels like everyday, a new lyric will hit and it'll be like I never realized what I had listened to a hundred times before...
chilixx- I completely agree with everything you said! Ive loved other bands and musicians and there are definite moments in my life that I can think of where their music meant pretty much everything to me, but with the avetts that moment has lasted from the first time i heard them until now and i dont see it ending anytime soon.
