Banjo instruction video for Paranoia

here is a link to my youtube video for paranoia.

It's not 100% of the song, just the two major banjo parts. figure them out and you should be able to figure out the rest.

as I said in a previous post: I'm no banjo pro, just trying to help out the deluge of people trying to learn.

any help would be welcomed!

If we could play them all perfectly, people would be writing on our websites! Good job!

But their good times come with prices
And I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make
At anyone's expese except their own
Would they laugh if they knew who paid?

good point Tinndn...thanks!

Hey Addicted,...what a good starter Banjo to buy and what would one pay for one? Been looking on EBAY. Would like to find a nice vintage one at a reasonable price...

so would I!

I have a Deering Goodtime banjo (goodtime 2 i think, it has a resonator vs. the open back version)

My wife found it on ebay used, but it is in brand new condition. It's a good starter banjo and I probably won't replace it with anything better for a very long time. you could go the $100 route and just find something that works and sounds ok. that should be good enough to start on as long as it has good intonation so you can learn to play in tune. the goodtime 2 retails for around $700 I think, but if you can find a good one used you might be able to pick one up for around $400.

there is at least one other thread on here about beginner banjos...I'd search it for you but I've got to run. there is a lot of good info from a lot of people more knowledgeable than I. See if you can find it. I'll check back later.

Thanks Addicted! I'll do a search, what, I saw somewhere on this Forum that there is no Search feature Sad

Going to look into that Deering Goodtime banjo. I'm hoping my guitar ability (limited although it may be!) will help with learning the banjo, although, I'd imagine it's all down to finger picking and I'm a competant "strummer" on the G'Tar....

I think knowing the guitar will help you w/the banjo, more so than not knowing any stringed instruments at all. search youtube, there's lots of good lessons on there for beginners on up. I've played guitar for years and the banjo for less than a year. I'm faster at finger picking on the banjo though...not sure why because I've worked at fingerpicking the guitar for a long time...kind of weird I guess.

I just recently purchased a rk-20 recording king off of amazon.com for about 300 and some change and it has been a wonderful starter banjo. very clear and loud, and raised enough to have a clear strum sound with no vibration but low enough that its easier than some banjos to hold a note.

I ended up just browsing local pawn shops under the impression that banjos were the kind of instrument people tried to learn and then pawned off when they found it difficult. I picked up a Sovereign with resonator (Oscar Schmidt by product I believe) and took a toothbrush to it and it looks and sounds great. Thanks for the video, by the way. Just been winging it via guitar tabs so far with TAB tablature

I guess if you would have a good banjo lessons also on that one, you can play that song pretty well. In that way, you can be able to really achieve what you want and it would be for the better. I just hope that it would sound well when you play it on a banjo.

Here goes another attempt at a song. Again, these are not perfect but should get you going. Both are played with a capo - some people say on fret III and others say on IV. AB played it on IV on Live. No. 3 and also a few others so I play it on IV with the fifth string either muted or tuned to B (as opposed to standard G tuning).
