ha! you're funny...

hmmmmmm....

Just one? They're all so good. I do have a strong love for November Blue.

I could maybe list a top 20
No particular order

SSS
Traveling Song
Shame
November Blue
Murder in the City
In the Curve
Famous Flower of Manhattan
Colorshow
Walking for You
Left on Laura, Left on Lisa
And It Spread
Gimmeakiss
Pretty Girl at the Airport
Paranoia in Bb Major
Salvation Song
Backwards With Time
Pretty Girl from Annapolis
St. Joseph's
Laundry Room
Signs

Most of these I could listen to on repeat all day long. There are others. It all depends on my mood and my surroundings. But over half of these can have me in tears.

Gun to my head, I'd probably say "Go To Sleep" just because (like MANY others) it is great to sing along with, but I also love the way they jam to it live. Played it for 20 minutes when I saw them 12/30/08, a really great performance.

Tale of Coming News studio version- sounds like an old Dylan song.

November Blue - with Offering a very close second.

"The South--where roots, place, family, and tradition are the essence of identity."

-Social historian Carl N. Degler

thats a tough question, because there isnt a single avett brothers song that i cant listen to, but if i had to choose i would say me and god, because that song speaks truth to me.

I like the "gun to my head" idea, cause that's really the only way I could choose one... 'Gift For Melody Anne.'

PGFCL
SSS
Swept Away
Tear down the house
And it spread
Tinman
New Love song
One Line Wonder
In The Curve
Late In Life
Laundry Room

Oh forget it, I'll just list them all...

----------
There was a dream, and one day I could see it, like a bird in a cage I broke in and demanded that somebody free it.

'Murder in the City' makes tear up every time. I'm not a crier.

I can't really put any song above the other, but that one tugs the heart strings.

Carolina one day I'll, someday I'll come home.

Murder in the City.

makes me cry.

when i saw them live when they opened for DMB, my friends sort of looked at me like are you ok? why are you crying. This was there first time hearing TAB....and they've been fans ever since.
--
-always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name-

yep.

couldnt even begin to pick ONE favorite song.

but everytime i hear laundry room, especially the live versions, i get goosebumps at the end where the kick drum comes in. EVERY TIME. never had the happen with any song ever.

The Ballad Of Love and Hate. Sweetest song of all time.

November Blue for me.

You're the back and forth sway of the hammock all day...

It's a tossup between "I Would Be Sad" (best ballad) and "Colorshow" (best jam).

Salvation Song. hands down!

Ive been pondering this for a few days now and I have to go with Famous Flower of Manhattan. Its just pure poetry...with catchy music.

There's some songs I love, then there's the songs that I love more. Honestly I love all their music, some people say the like a band and only know 2 of their songs or something, na you invest in the whole band and all their works not just their biggest hit.

1. Murder in the City
2. Famous Flower of Manhattan
3. Laundry Room
4. My Last Song to Jenny
5.Salina

and thats just if I had to pick a top 5 while someone is holding a gun to my head, like most of you said, I love every one of their songs.

Gotta do top 10, and they could be interchangeable...

1)Offering
2)Please Pardon Yourself
2)Laundry Room
3)Smoke In Our Lights
4)Weight of Lies
5)Salina
6)The Fall
7)Perfect Space
8)At The Beach
9)Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise
10)Sorry Man

Ok, this is impossible...Can't even fit Colorshow, Distraction, Novemer Blue, Murder, Famous Flower, Slly's Lover...and the list goes on and on...I'm really suprised 3 new ones are in the top ten, for some reason.

***ScreamiN' my luNgs out with NothiN' to say***

If you answered anything other than "Please Pardon Yourself", you're wrong Eye-wink

this is a tough one!! so i'm doing a top ten..

1. Salvation Song
2. SSS
3. Left on Laura, Left on Lisa
4. I Would Be Sad
5. Will You Return
6. The Greatest Sum
7. Talk on Indolence
8. Pretty Girl from Annapolis
9. Murder in the City
10. Smoke in Our Lights

Salvation Song is the absolute best...

It's too hard to pick my favorite off of any of their albums. let alone from all time Sticking out tongue

I think without a doubt it's I & Love & You... Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise is also phenomenal...

Peace,
Worth

~~~Roll Tide!~~~
I'll leave out 'I and Love and You', because it would throw everything out the window.....since I've already established a pretty firm top 3 (with spots 4 and 5 interchangeable with many, many songs).
Shame
Left on Laura, Left on Lisa
Please Pardon Yourself
Salvation Song / Left on Laura, Left on Lisa (tied). Too many great songs, but the message in Salvation Song is just so damn great. I love that song and I think that it wraps up what the Avetts stand for to me.
This is a difficult question for any die-hard Avett Bros fan. Of course, I could sum up my huge rant that I am about to present by saying that all of them are my favorite.(pretty true!) Instead, I'm going to pick a few songs that I consider I truly can relate to. Everyone's opinion can turn out differently, but these are the ones that give me the feeling that they are singing the stories from my life, back to me.
In no particular order:
-Me and God (perfect explanation of how church is not for everyone, even the spiritual.)
-Walking for You (live vol.2)
-Paranoia in B-flat Major (such an amazing song about a true feeling that most can understand.)
-I Would Be Sad (I used the line "I know we are young, but we won't always be..." to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I love this song, and I know that I would be sad too!)
-A Lover Like You
-If It's the Beaches
-November Blue
-Offering (live!)
-Swept Away
-The New Love Song (I'm a lover, so love songs are my fix.)
-Salvation Song
-Murder in the City (very deep and passionate, especially with the new daughter lyric.)
I first heard these 3 songs the other night (09/19/09) at their live performance, and I just had to add them.
-January Wedding (I cannot describe how perfectly I relate to this song.)
-Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise
-Ten Thousand Words (perfect description of certain nights that I have been through.)
Their new album is amazing, I want to add all the songs from it to this list. It seems as if their sound has not only developed beautifully over the years, but also managed to remain at the roots of what they stand for. It provides their usual raw energy, as well as, truthful heartfelt lyrics that allow people, like me, to smile, cry, laugh, and/or think, every time that they hear a song by them. So by evoking true emotion, they give the ultimate experience, giving people a feeling of connection to the situations and feelings that The Avett Brothers songs are about.
Last but not least, "I and Love and You". They played this song after their encore the other night. Everyone joined in to sing the last lines of the song, while Scott and Seth, as well as the entire audience, counted out the "three words" with their hands. Something about having this big group of people, joined together, to share all of the beautiful and true emotion that this music can bring, made me feel absolutely complete. My heart is full thanks to The Avett Brothers.
mi fav is prob. January wedding!!
wat do yall think??
Ill With Want is my new all time favorite. Only heard it four times now. It's about to kill me.
I would have to say that I and Love and You is my favorite so far but also really love Distraction #74 and Left On Laura, Left on Lisa. And as everyone else has said, it is so hard to pick one because all of them are so so good.
This is just a fun social experiment to see how many of us can say the same thing one after another, isn't it? Laughing out loud
i'm compelled to weigh in on the fun....
I have a favorite handful. Sort of like....what songs would I bring with me to a deserted island...
Colorshow, If its the Beaches, Living of Love, When I Drink, Head full of Doubt Road full of Promise (has just joined the ranks)
YAY!!!!
1.My Last Song To Jenny
2.Pretty Girl At The Airport
3.If It's The Beaches
4.Smoke In Our Lights
5.Murder In The City
6.Offerings
7.In The Curve
8.Left On Laura Left On Lisa
9.Salina
10.Kind Of In Love
11.Jenny And a Summer Day
12.November Blue
13.When I Drink
14.The Lowering
15.Living Of Love
as most you have said, it's impossible to pick just one favorite Avett song. I really do love Left on Laura, Left on Lisa and Pretty Girl From Chile. I also have to pick Pretty Girl From Annapolis, because that's my area of the world. Ten Thousand Words might be my favorite new song.
Ill With Want is my new favorite. In fact, it might be my favorite song of all time (tied with Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam). This song is so perfectly written and executed that I could play it on a loop and never get tired of it (trust me, I am already doing it!).
well, today it is famous flower of manhattan.
yesterday it was and it spread.
and the day before that it was colorshow.
who knows what it'll be tomorrow...perhaps salina?
I'm going to have to say "Ballad of Love and Hate." Not only is it a great song, a beautiful son, but the poetry is as deep as the Ocean. I get something more out of it all the time. Plus it's the song that hooked me on the Avett Brothers. A buddy played "Die Die Die" for me, and I dug it. Then he played "Love and Hate" and I knew I'd found a new band I'd have to spend a whole lot of time with.
". . . and I don't mean like a couple of tears and I'm blue . . ."
salvation song
Ballad.
I really enjoy "Tale of Coming News", especially when played live. Another one of my all time favorites is "Please Pardon Yourself"
This is pretty tough but here are a few that come to mind (in no particular order)...
backwards with time
the weight of lies
If it's the beaches
Pretty Girl from Chile
Salina
Shame
Pretty Girl from San Diego
All My Mistakes is probably my all-time favorite, I'm surprised no one's really mentioned it.
The rest of my favorites go as follows:
1. Pretty Girl From Locust
2. January Wedding
3. Paranoia
4. Colorshow
5. Talk On Indolence
6. Shame
7. Swept Away
8. If It's the Beaches
9. Salina
10. Kick Drum Heart
careful not to say that i don't care, or haven't, or can't, or will not again.
Head full of doubt or I and love and you
I was just asking my co-worker this today. He's still guessing what mine is. I give him hints here and there. My ALL-TIME FAVORITE is def.
Famous Flower of Manhattan
Pure Poetry. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE listening to this song. Haven't heard it live, just seen it on Youtube and first time I saw it I had to drop everything and pay attention. Scott's vocals are impeccable.
I’ll come back home without my things/
‘Cause the clothes I wore out there/
I will not wear around you
Top 5
1. November Blue
2. Swept Away (sentimental version)
3. Salvation Song
4. Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise
5. Please Pardon Yourself
Could never narrow it down to one.
My "current" favorite as in the one I keep playing is "Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise"
Me & God comes immediately to mind with some runners up being: Murder in The City, Perfect Space, Ill With Want, My Last Song To Jenny, & the list goes on & on, it goes on & on, it goes on & on.
"Rock & Roll means well, it just can't help telling young boys lies." Mike Cooley
Like the rest of you, I think it would be impossible to pick just one all-time favorite since every single Avett song is ridiculously amazing. However, there is something magical about "Weight of Lies" that gets me every time I hear it. Of course, I could honestly say that about most of their songs. Seriously, these guys write the best songs I've ever heard.
