I will be there for the Friday lineup. One of Asheville's finest local bands, Now You See Them, will be closing out the night at Machiavelli's from midnight-2am. BE THERE!
My first year was 2007 and I haven't missed one since lol. I missed The Avett Brothers though
I'm excited to see: Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Dawes, Justin Townes Earle, The Cave Singers, Langhorne Slim, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Bombadil, Sam Quinn, Jill Andrews.
I'll have to listen to Now You See Them. Anyone else I should check out?
Johnson's Crossroad is another great Asheville band that will be playing on both Friday and Saturday.
Frontier Ruckus is there this year, I believe. They are phenomenally good. Also David Mayfield Parade, everybodyfields (!!!), and a whole slew of others.
I'm kind of bummed I can only stay down there for one day (and therefore will not see a lot of these bands) but hopefully I'll be back next year.
Just on the Piedmont Stage alone on Friday you can see.
Jill Andrews
David Mayfield Parade
Justin Townes Earl
Railroad Earth
And that’s just one of the 22 stages that will be running that night. I’ll have to break away from the Piedmont stage to catch at least part of the sets from John Oats with 18 South, The Tony Rice Unit, The David Wax Museum, The Green Cards, Red Molly, American Aquarium and then I hope to join blasto for Now You See Them. By the way Ryan, Machiavel serves up some fine Pizza and has an excellent beer selection. Then Saturday things will really get busy :-)
Im gonna be at the bulk of those shows you mentioned Sunday & Blasto. I hope to meet ya fellas. And I agree on how great R&R is, I feel like ive tried out a lot of different festivals in the past few years (Merlefest, Bonnaroo, and Newport Folk Fest to name a few) but i'd choose to go to R&R anytime over them. Nobody mentioned Red June, Spirit Family Reunion, or the Black Lillies...all must see bands! Ditto on what sunday said though, Friday on the Piedmont is worth admission alone...
When I saw that Piedmont lineup I seriously considered just pitching a tent and kicking it there all day friday! Black Lillies are a great band out of Knoxville and will put on a great show. Folk Soul Revival is playing Friday at State St. stage and will put on a good show. Finally if any of you get a shot to see the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Old Time Band you need to make time. ETSU has a bluegrass program through their school of music and puts out some incredible young talent. They are really something to behold.
Hey turkeys. The festival is always looking for feedback, good and bad, so if you feel so inclined, message me about the highs and lows you experienced in Bristol this past weekend? K? K.
Thanks. Bunches.
