Well, we are now definitely going to the show on Sunday night in Charleston and I'm pretty excited! I did want to pull my previous post back up on the list though and see if anyone has thoughts on music farm as a venue.
My buddy who lives in Charleston tells me The Music Farm has been redone and that TAB is the first act to play in the remodeled venue. I'll be there with buddy, brother and his girlie in tow...hope to see you there!!!
the music farm is a good time... you could say it has a Lincoln Theater type feel to it b/c it isn't huge but it isn't small either....
here is a review written about it:
"Located in a railroad storage depot listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Music Farm is your station for live music. Outside, the building looks like what it was, a train depot. On the inside, hog wire, sheet metal and plywood convey the feeling of a farm gone electric. Although the majority of acts that play here are not typical radio fare, the Farm has featured nationally known jazz, bluegrass, reggae, folk and rock music acts since 1991. And unlike most music venues, the bar is easy to access."
i'm planning to drive in for the show from the greenville area.
i'm probably taking my motorcycle and don't want to drive back afterward. i'm not familiar with charleston (moved to sc 3 mo. ago) - does anyone know of anywhere close to camp or anything?
Apparently this is the first show for the venue since it's remodeling, so I don't know if anyone knows what it's truly like now. I didn't care for it when I went there. I hated how the bar was in the middle of the floor pretty much, but that's supposed to be changing. I look forward to hearing whether the venue got better or not though.
The Music Farm is one of the best bar-style music venues on the pennisula in Charleston that has just been renovated by new ownership. The location is brain-dead easy to find and has a large public parking lot adjacent to the building. I am particularly happy to hear that the bathrooms have been gutted and renovated = their men's room has long been the second worst pit in Charleston = second only to Big John's nasty little secret. FYI smoker's! You cannot smoke in Charleston bars, so I'm not sure how the staff handles patrons stepping in and out to huff their favorite weed. Security and facility staff have always been kool with patrons but power drinkers beware = open a bar tab with your credit card at your own risk = I refuse to open a tab in this venue ever agin after being slammed on my bill more than once. Cash and carry only for the savy booze hound. They have apparently added balcony space and the floor plan is elevated twice in a semi-auditorium layout (minus seating) that enhances a good line-of-sight throughout the room. The old sound system wasn't that bad to begin with, so the new sound system should really add to the experience. I've seen to many shows to count at The Music Farm in six years and outside of the Charleston Music Hall it's my favorite venue. All ya'all will dig it!
Thank you so much for the inside 'scoop' on the venue. I am excited to see this somewhat 'historic' musical hot spot and the new changes. Although, I must admit that i'm even more excited to be taking a few newbies with me to witness the joy of the Avett sound...looks to be a good time...
