I'm actually good on the code, but thanks for the offer.

I should have clarified : I'm at work and can't use my code to find out the tracklist until I get home. I guess I just didn't want everyone to know how impatient I am, or that I didn't go and have a code. Sorry to those who didn't get one, but with there not being any unreleased songs on it, I'm sure it will spread through the community in time. Smiling

They kept the "banter" before Salina where they talked about their first concerts.... niiiiiiice.... Smiling

"Hell has no fury like a woman; happy, scorned, or otherwise"

If anyone has an extra code I'd be forever grateful. Was there (and can prove it with a pic if you'd like) but missed the code/poster on the way out in our excitement.

Ugh, what didn't I do? I kept my ticket stubs thinking that'd be the key to getting the downloads. Was there something else that I needed to do? Well, if tickets aren't the answer I'd be grateful for a code from someone. Thanks!

Dolph or Steph - Is there not some way that people who did go and missed their download code can get theirs emailed to them? I know this is more Columbia's issue now, but I can't help but think that you guys are lurking and working on something for them in the background.

i was at the show but i didn't get a code. I would be grateful if somebody has an extra

Salina did not download for me. Would anyone be willing to email me the mp3 please?

An email from management might work, but is that really even necessary? I wasn't at the show, but due to the generosity of another fan, I got an extra code and have these tracks already (all but one, technical difficulties kept I&L&Y from downloading, but the system counts it as downloaded already, so I'm short that one track).

What's the general consensus on just posting a link of a file-share with all these tracks for those who didn't get a code to download it ? (whatever their reason may be)

Since they are free tracks already, and going to be so readily available, I tend to think this would be acceptable.
Maybe not on this board, but elsewhere...
I don't know the legal or other circumstances involved...and don't wanna step on the wrong toes.
What's proper protocol here?

Dolph, Steph....? Bueller?

Angi,

I also have the EP, and didn't go to the show, and am enjoying it greatly through the kindness of another board member. But there are many newer board members that were at the show still asking for codes. I don't know if they'll all be offered a spare like we were. While I do feel that those in attendance should have hunted them down, what about people who dont check the site. Maybe that was their first show, and they'd love nothing more than to relive a few songs, but didn't know there was even a code to get? I think that this should be openly shared as well, but the decision's not up to me.

I vote to share

cat - it's taking a few minutes, but ive pm'd you again with more info.

blasto and angi - i think maybe they'll become available to everyone soon enough, but who knows?

--
"Hell has no fury like a woman; happy, scorned, or otherwise"

So jealous... couldn't make the show.

Who gave us a vote?
It seems like if they wanted them posted they would not have gone to the expense of printing up thousands of cards with individual codes to give as a gift to the people that bought tickets and traveled to the show. That was the idea right, to give a gift to the people that attended the show?

I would love to have the mp3s, but don't want to infringe on anyone elses opportunity to have them that attended the show. I'm hoping we get the okay to share.

At the end of the set, the old man who was going to be behind the wheel for the long haul home said, "Boys, that gave me God bumps."

NC, you make a valid point.

He does, indeed. It was a gift for those who paid for a ticket for the CD release show.

That is a valid point. But C'mon, they are going to be shared anyway.
--
Whatever satisfies the soul is truth--Walt Whitman

He does have a valid point. Like I said, it's not our decision.

That's why my suggestion is to provide a way for those that did go and didn't get codes a chance to still get the ep. I do see both sides of the story, and as I said earlier, judging by post counts, there's a few on here that are brand new to the board and probably didn't even know there was a download code to get. Do they not deserve the ep? This is a special gift to those who were not able to pick up the new album and went to the show.

I do feel guilty for having it, but someone offered up a spare and I took my chance, making it clear that I wasn't there and didn't really deserve one. I'm sure fellow collectors can relate to going to great lengths to obtain what they need to complete their collections.

This is so wonderful to relive these five great songs from one of the best nights of me life! Thank you!!

I feel like this bit of wonderfulness should be shared but I do think it was a special gift for those of us who went to the show. My vote would be to just wait and see what happens and if the EP is made available to those not at the show.

Changing the plans that I’ve been setting on
I’m scared by the way that my life is getting gone

Ill preface by saying I had to hunt down the dude in the black tee to get mine. That said..

They're really too good not too share. I want those not there to be able in some aspect to feel the vibe of the homecoming show.

NC4Now: That was the idea right, to give a gift to the people that attended the show?

Yeah, that was the idea. But that doesn't mean they meant those were the only people who would *ever* be allowed to hear those tunes.
The reality of the modern world and technology may cheapen some of the specialness of stuff like this, but it doesn't have to. It's all in one's perception.

Stuff's already up all over YouTube. More than just these few tracks, too. All of these tracks are obtainable, download code or not. Seek and ye shall find.

And the intent of the gift did indeed deliver.
The folks who came to the show did not leave empty-handed. They left with posters and DL cards, and even if that didn't work out, they got ears full of music and a night the rest of us can never experience in full, no matter how much we download.

There's something about giving out a tangible gift that means more to people. A whole psychology about it. I've volunteered at soup kitchens in the past passing out free meals, and despite the fact that we serve all day, we've always handed out "tickets" to those waiting in line that they turn in when they receive the meal. We don't even count them, but the tix exist so folks feel like they gave something of perceived value in exchange for their free meal.
A thing may be free, but if ya have to work for it a little bit more, or hang on to it for several hours, it tends to mean more or have more value than something that's just auto-fed to a person.

For that reason, the cards passed out themselves will be a souvenir for many who collect that sort of thing. Others couldn't even be bothered to hang on to it till they got home.

That doesn't mean we all "deserve" a download of those tracks, too, but no one should be getting all butt-hurt if a non-show-goer gets ahold of these. Those who were there get to relive those moments. The rest of us can only imagine.

I have a felling this may show up on itunes after all are given a chance at the free download.

Whatever satisfies the soul is truth--Walt Whitman

If anything, I know I didn't buy tickets to the show because of it being a release party... didn't really need the consolation prize, though it was certainly generous of them and I am happy to have it.

“I'm sure fellow collectors can relate to going to great lengths to obtain what they need to complete their collections.”

Ya think Smiling
If I were you I would feel no guilt. But that’s just me. I would have been AGGRESSIVELY hunting down the download card at the show. If I could not get to the show I would have been contacting everyone I knew that was there, to make sure I got a copy. Again, what can I say? That’s just me.

"To some extent I happily don't know what I'm doing. I feel that it's an artist's responsibility to trust that. ." - David Byrne

I felt a little bad when I was offered a card since I didn't attend. But then I was assured that not only were there plenty available, there were tons left over at the end of the night. As long as my having it didn't ruin it for someone else, I'm gonna let go of that guilt.

I'll gladly return the favor and share it with others, here, as well. But not without blessing from Avett management (who may very well already have something up their sleeve). I'm not gonna bite the hand that feeds me.
For those who don't have these yet, I apologize if that sounds like I'm dangling forbidden fruit. Sad Puzzled Evil

Obviously they planned ahead and made enough cards so that this wouldnt happen. It's a shame people weren't better informed about it...was there no announcement made before, during, or after the show to look for these?

angischy
“no one should be getting all butt-hurt if a non-show-goer gets ahold of these”

Where the hell did that come from? I was simply stating the obvious. We don't have a vote in what the band’s management does. They went to a substantial expense to do it this way, instead of just posting up a free download. I have no illusion that these tracks will be held tightly by 6,000 people. Nor do I have a desire that they remain exclusive. But maybe, just maybe it should take people, who were not at the show, some effort or at least a day or two to find a copy.
You also can not compare the sound on these tracks to the garbage sound on the YouTube vids.
