#$&@!% Charlotte traffic
My girlfriend and I left Columbia at 4:30 on Friday and got to Charlotte by 6:00. (I'm a high school teacher so I couldn't leave any earlier.) However we got stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours once we got to Charlotte. So it took us 4 HOURS to get to the amphitheater from Columbia. Needless to say not only did we miss The Avett Brothers completely but we missed Dave Matthews' first 2 songs as well. I spoke with one of the policemen directing traffic and he said he's never seen it like that. They ran out of parking spaces. Did anyone else get caught in traffic?
My only consolation is that I have tickets to see TAB in Tampa and I got tickets on Saturday for the cd release show. Looking at the setlist from Friday just got me all riled up again.

thats typical Friday, Charlotte Traffic... it starts at about 4 on Fridays and lasts til about 7:00 - usually.... I've grown up around here and I can say that I've seen Verizon a bit worse before, but yeah, it was packed.... I actually left work at 3:00, to guarantee myself I would have no issues ( and I work 10 minutes from the venue)
i wish you would have said something earlier - i could have sent you a better way, in terms of traffic - sorry about that, that really sucks
i would have been a nervous, annoyed, mean wreck... oh my gosh.
I am anxious just thinking about sitting in traffic, knowing I was missing it!!!
Sorry for your crapshoot of a situation! =(
I flew in from Chicago and the wife flew in from San Fran to see the show. We stayed at the Marriot in South Park and asked the front desk when to leave. They told us it would take 15 minutes to get there. We left at 5:45 wanting to get best seats possible. We got there at 7:45. It was a $75.00 cab ride and got to partially hear the last song from will call. Apparantly the traffic lights went out on the main road and the police redirected everyone the same way. My wife was furious, sad, but mostly heartbroken. I had seen them Thursday in Indy, but it was still the most frustrating 2 hours of my life. Thank goodness for the 24ounce beverages. Hope all who got to see them enjoyed it. We tried not to talk to anyone about it in fear of our moods being contagious. However, life goes on and we will look forward to the next one.
Same story here. It was my first "girls night out" in two years. My girlfriend and I took our two other girlfriends to see TAB live for the first time and were SO excited for them. We left a restaurant 11 miles from the show at 5:30. THREE HOURS LATER, we arrived and of course missed the REAL show by TAB. I've never seen anything like it. We were heartbroken as well, but now we'll have to schedule another special girls night on August 8 I guess!
Charlotte is still better then Raleigh in terms of getting to the show. It is just amazing that there is just a 2 lane or 4 lane road leading out of these ampitheaters.
The worst part of Charlotte though is leaving the show. The entire front parking lot feeds out thru 2 exits. Insane. I really try to limit the amount of amphitheater shows I go to because we have an hour and half to travel to Raleigh or Charlotte and to not miss the opener we have to take a half day vacation.
Usually it is just DMB that we go to so it isn't too bad, but I feel for yall because I have been in the same situation and missed the first 2 DMB songs before because of stupid parking attendants that only were working until 8pm even though the cars were still coming in.
The last Raleigh show I went to (and maybe the last) they were parking cars 3 deep rather then 2 deep, effectively blocking in the middle car.
You would think that everyone paying for $11 dollar beers they could afford to add more lanes in and out of these places......
$75 for a cab? i thought i got ripped for $45 on new year's eve. sheesh!
Yes! We were in traffic all the way from Winston (luckily we left in just enough time) My friend and I jumped out of the car at 6:50, left our husbands (poor guys) and ran to the venue -- we literally got in and the first song started -- our husbands missed the first 3 songs though -- but at least we made it--sorry to hear about everyone missing the Avetts, hopefully you will be at the show in August!
The horrible Charlotte traffic was due to a fallen telephone pole near the front entrance of Verizon Wireless at exit 45... thus resulting in the extensive traffic back up.
