Clicking noises on a couple tracks -- production glitches?
I bought the CD and noticed there are some distinct "clicking" noises on a few songs. Most noticeably, around 3:15-3:20 on "Head Full of Doubt", and, slightly less noticeably, around 1:05-1:20 on "The Perfect Space". The exact same noises are in the same spots on the spinner.com stream, so I don't think it's unique to my CD.
Anyone else notice this? Doesn't really sound like any kind of background percussion to me. I'm no audio engineer, but it almost sounds like scratches from some analog source, possibly from when it was mastered to the digital format. I didn't even notice it the first several times hearing the album, but I listened to it in my car for the first time today, whose crappy speakers seem to accentuate little things like that.

Burn the questions. Burn the shame.
Doesn't do it on mine. Cleaned your CD player lately?

Baltimore, Philly. Come sooner!
Yep, they are definitely there on mine too. Not sure if they are glitches or not, but they are certainly audible.

Does it on mine too. I thought it was my speakers in my car messing up then I listened to the song again and it happened in the same spot.
it sounds like someone tapping on one of the instruments

I'll bet on mechanical noises. Piano's are notorious for this, and a clear recording will reveal such.

It's not clicking, sounds more like seth tapping his guitar

Glad I'm not the only one who hears this, then. I didn't think it was guitar-tapping or anything like that, since it sounds too distinct, but maybe. Either way, not really worth complaining about, and nothing we can do about it. (Not the first time a Rick Rubin-produced album had some sound issues, either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_Magnetic#Criticism_regarding_production)
When I listened to the NPR preview of the album, I noticed that it had some weird popping and skipping noises which made me think it had been ripped from the vinyl. I wonder if these clicking noises showed up on that as well, if it did come from a non-digital source. Guess there's no way to find out at this point, though.
I hear it as well...

I bet you're right, actually. It does sorta sound like a mechanical click from the workings of something like a piano, and it corresponds to the piano beats in that part. Reminds me of the squeaky bass drum pedal in Zeppelin's "Since I've Been Loving You".
i concur w/ the piano thingy. aren't there similar noises on Country Was? i always thought it was noise from the pedals or from the whole hitting a key and hearing the mallet thing (no clue if i'm using appropriate lingo) being moved to hit the string or wire doo-hickey.

on a related note, i discovered a human cough on the end of laundry room, shortly after the violin kicks in.
also, seth's laugh during kick drum heart

The image of someone discovering a human cough is hilarious.
A human cough? What other type of cough could possibly be present in the studio?
Lest it be a human fart.

My brother thinks you can hear Scott scream right before the hoedown kicks in on Laundry Room.
eta: I think he's wrong. I think it's just the organ.

I've gotta agree w/ your brother, Worth. I kind of always thought that was a scream/yell also.

I definitely heard a clicking oise on one track. Can't remember which one though. I will have to see.
I wonder what's up with that.
it is definitely scott screaming in laundry room. he does it live a lot too

That is definitely a scream in Laundry Room. There's a slightly drawn out one as soon as the hoedown kicks in and then about midway through you can hear what I would call more of a yelping. Very faint, but definitely there as a reminder of the intensity of that part of the song. I love the little yells in Tin Man and the "come on" that was left in And it Spread. It's the little things that make me love this album even more.
hmm... now i'm gonna listen to this over and over to figure it out...
... as if i wasn't going to already listen to it over and over again already.

haha i thought everyone would like my phrasing of that statement. i guess since we were talking electronic noises i figured i would clarify
definitely yelling before the hoedown in laundry room. i thought about mentioning that but i figured it was more obvious
yeah i noticed the yelling. i love it. like blasto said the little things make the album.
The clicking is definitely the piano. You can hear it on I and love and You as soon as they play the first chord of the song, and several times thereafter. It's the same sound, and it's definitely present in other tunes where the piano is the leading instrument.
