WORST VENUE EVERRRRR!!!!!!!
"Once a clubhouse for Ybor City's Cuban community, now the historic building is a venue for a variety of events throughout the year".
First of all, I was expecting the Cuban Club to be a night club, but it's actually an outdoor asphalt slab surrounded by a concrete wall.
Secondly, the lines for concessions were ridiculous. I literally missed half of the show with a single trip to the bar. I stood in line at one of the two bars only to find out they had run out of beer.
Lastly, the stage and light set up were like something from a fraternity party. The stage was small and covered by a red and white tent that caused viewing obstructions with it's support ropes and poles.
The only bright spot in a night of disappointment, was that the Avett Brothers showed up and played their hearts out.

yeah, i was taken a back when i saw where they were playing...i thought we were going to be inside. agreed, lines were ridic, lighting sucked and the sound was very raw. i'm guessing the boys probably won't play there again. i don't understand why they played there instead of Skipper's Smokehouse (that's the other venue where a lot of wmnf sponsored concerts happen). i wouldn't say the night was a disappointment....just a bit bizarre! they played their hearts out that's for sure, but towards the end scott looked so fatigued(it was so brutally hot and i swear the bandshell blocked the breeze!) that i thought he was going to pass out and fall off the drumset stool, sitting back in the dinky bandshell! but back to the music...it was a great, energy filled, worth-the-wait performance! i had a wonderful time!
I agree, this venue was awful. Why couldn't they have it inside upstairs? I felt for them up there surrounded with the alien lights, all the concrete and no breeze. At least it didn't rain. I enjoyed every second they played - sweat & all - such a special night to have them back here & I hope they give Tampa another chance in a different location. I really enjoyed them at Skippers, but of course with their every growing popularity, that will not be an option in the future. Thanks for making it to Tampa - October to July was a long time to wait, but well worth it.

Yup, Cuban Club = Worst.Venue.Ever.
I've seen the Avett Brothers in small clubs, dingy clubs, mediocre clubs - but this took the prize for hottest, most uncomfortable, least welcoming slab of concrete I've ever seen.
That being said, I'd go to a TAB show WHEREVER they happened to be. I just think they deserve far better than what looked (and felt) like a prison exercise enclosure.
But they were troopers and gave yet another memorable and heart-felt performance. Wouldn't have missed it for anything.
(I saw them at the H.O.B. in Orlando Friday night: now that's a location that does them justice. Cool, clean, no smoking, great lighting and sound.)
Huh, I didn't have any issues with it. Plenty of room to stand, sit, or dance where you wanted, and the speaker system was plenty, plenty loud. The sound could have been better I suppose, but no complaints here! The drink lines weren't long at the beginning - better stock up early and double-fist it next time!

Yeah, no doubt the Cuban Club pavement.. err Bandshell could be a much sweeter venue if they took better care of it..

Avett Brothers at the Tampa Theater would be perfect! We caught OCMS there not long ago and it was great venue.
Am planning to go to The Moon in Tallahassee Sept for TAB - can't wait.
I was at Orlando and Tampa. Orlando was my first ever TAB show and it was a perfect evening. I was almost afraid that Tampa would be a let down. Instead it turned out to be fantastic in a completely different way. At HOB a friend and I stood at the railing next to the sound booth. Perfect view! Unfortunately lots of talking for those around the bars, but it was fabulous being in the same room with the Avetts and seeing live what I've only seen on YouTube. In Tampa I decided to get right up in the middle. Half way through their set we wound up being only 2 people away from the stage. Hot, sweaty, jumping, surrounded by great fans. Another perfect night.

Ian, I love the pic of Joe and Bob. I was in near the other side of the stage and couldn't manage to get much of anything of them.
