Even 16 year olds are into the Avetts!

I'm doing my student teaching this semester to get my MAT, and I asked my biology students to answer a few questions for me. I asked what their after school activities were, and their favorite bands, etc. etc...

One of them wrote about The Avett Brothers!! I was pretty darned excited, to say the least! Cool to know that 10th graders are into them, especially when a different set of brothers are so popular.

I got my sister into them when she was 15 going on 16!

I'll see you in the morning time.

that was when i started to listen to them...I remember because 16 in July was like the anthem of my life at that time. I'm now 18 and so happy i found them when i did.

I've listened to them for like 2-3 years now, so I started when I was like 15-16.

None of my friends really like them, so I have to discuss them with teachers and what not, but I do try and convert them over.

-always remember there was nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name-

i started listening to them when i was like 15

My youngest (14) has been loving them for about a year and a half. He has been to three shows with me.

That's awesome stirred! Most of the "popular" music these days sounds exactly the same, and most of the students wrote the same responses to me. I was thrilled to see that someone mentioned TAB. The only other atypical response I got was Baroque and accordian music-- which I thought was pretty awesome too.

Accordion and Baroque? Cool. They must be independent thinkers Smiling

My son is in a new school this year (new town and started high school) and he says everyone likes the same stuff. He has already told a few kids about The Avett Bros. Good kid Eye-wink

Every time pick up my 2 1/2 year old son, I ask him what he wants to listen to. "Da Aaavit Brovahs!" is his response 9 times out of 10. He's into HGTR and Primus, as well. For two years old, he has excellent tastes. Don't get me wrong, Yo Gabba Gabba gets a lot of play in our house too. But anyway, The boy makes me smile every time I glance in the rear-view and he's bobbing his little head or slapping his hand on his knee, in damn near perfect rhythem to the beat. Four Thieves Gone is his favorite album, from my observations.

I was listening to 'Offering' with him in the car earlier, and when the part about "I dream of children, we can call our own....watch 'em run around in the front yard, from the front porch of our home..." I glanced back at him and he gave me one of his little grins that makes me so grateful, it's hard to explain. I know he had no idea of the meaning of those lyrics but it was almost like he did, like we had a little moment there. God, I love that lil' boy...and the song ain't bad neither.

Oh!...What?...A nightmare!

that's sweet, Nate.

Aw.
Some day I'll have my own little baby Avett fans, in the distant future.
Now I'll just have to settle with converting the kids I babysit. Kick drum is already our dancing song.

I have a few Avett songs on my cell phone (a flip phone) and my almost 1 year old daughter loves to grab my phone because she's figured out how to make it play music. She even knows which of the buttons skips songs! And I'm pretty sure "Paranoia in B Flat Major" and "I and Love and You" are her favorites. I've added some Magnolia Electric Co. with the hopes of further expanding her horizons. Smiling

My husband has been into TAB for a while. He decided it would be a great show for the whole family. We took out two daughters who are 12 and 14. WOW...we are all hooked now. We saw them in Charlotte. It was great! They immediately went on itunes and bought every CD we did not have. We have our new edition on order....However, I recommended to my 14 year old not to sing "When I Drink" at school.

We are now taking a long weekend to see them in Nashville. Can' wait!

My 19 year old saw them for the first time when she was 17. My 12 year old saw them for the first time when he was 10 at Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival and my 10 year old has known all of their lyrics since she was 7.

I am hoping for some more family friendly shows in the Lawrence area or Kansas City.

Greg

My friend used to babysit some kids who were all under 10 (I think there were 6 of them in the family) and they always bugged her to put on the Avetts, especially songs like 16 in July, to which they'd sing along "siiixteen in juulyyy!!!"

They are great songwriters who would catch anyone's ear.

I'm like my grandma: short, but I stand tall, playing every card that's dealt to me. Some days are aces, and some days are faces, and some days are twos and threes.

I got my 15 year old cousin hooked on em, she is now asking me everyday if i can bring her to the Philadelphia show, and of course i am! It will be a surprise though.

Our 12 and 9 year olds are both very much into them. The 12-almost-13 year old is getting into wanting to talk about what the lyrics mean with us which I just *love.* Such the perfect spark for meaningful interactions, which are just so wonderful at this age.

Im 16 and im so madly in love with the avetts ive been to 8 concerts and have gotten front row every time except one. Whats not to love about them?Their gorgeous and kind and full of energy. I started to get many of my friends to fall in love with them!

i'm 16, and i've been in love with them for quite a few years now. Smiling they're so wonderful.

i'll be honest. i don't know how i feel about teenagers liking the same music as me. hopefully, their tastes are way more sophisticated than most.

oh, and i'm 30.

I started listening to the Avetts when I was 55. My granddaughter started in the womb and attended 2 or three shows before she was born.

Rejoice always, Mark

I'm ten right now and TAB has been my favorite band since I was 6. I've been to 11 of their concerts and have all of their albums except for the avett bros. and live at the double door inn. I've been posting on the sight for a few years and play almost all of their songs on guitar.

Late in Life, not only are you awesome, but you write well.

I am 22 years of age now and i have been into them for only about a year. It has been a year filled with little other music than TAB. But still only a year. With all new good bands that i find i try to share with friends and spread the good word around about that particular band. With the avetts it has been almost out of control with how much i try to turn other people on to them. But i have found that it is hard to get those of my friend s into them who are of lesser maturity. Its like they are still stuck in to what is cool and what others will think of what they are listening to or in other words "mainstream". Rather then music that is true and honest and completly art in every sense.
Not saying that i am wise behond my years or anything. I just feel that it takes a certain level of maturity and appreciation for something that is so honest. Rather than what is being played on the radio or "mainstream".

I am 17 and a good bit of my friends are also into the Avetts. Just the other day I was with a friend who I thought was only into mainstream music, and out of the blue he asks me if I have ever heard of The Avett Brothers. I was floored.

i am 17 and am a huge fan of the avett brothers. its much better than the crap most people my age listen to (a.k.a. rap)

At the local high school (North Stanly, a rival of Mt. Pleasant where the Avetts graduated from) they used to play the Avett Bros during morning announcements, that was several years ago. Everyone loved them even if they did represent a detested rivalry. But anyway, the Avett's music transcends time and age. I'm 51, my daughter is 19 and she and her friends love the Avetts - I have to say I got them started. People gravitate toward the good and pure.

I remember being incredibly tired for my first day of sophmore year in high school because I stayed out watching an Avett Bros show lol, which would have put me at 15. Totally worth it.

my son is 6 his fav song is Kickdrum. Cannot stop singing it. His fav album is second gleam. I am blessed.
