Expectations
I have to be honest, I love the new album, but can you honestly say this was the best effort for the 1st major label record? I know it will grow on me more, but I still think 'Migionette' showed what the brothers were really capable of. This is the first time one of their records has not wowed me.
I just think the timing was off. Because this was supposed to be a break out album, I would of showed more of the bluegrass side of them with a little rock,or "punkgrass" if you will, which is what made them. Then I would have applied these songs to their follow up album.

Can't these discussions just end for good? How many time can we discuss the same topic folks? 25?

It's been at least 25 already, for sure, oly
... There needs to be some sticky note quote/disclaimer from the Brothers saying they never strived to be known as a bluegrass band. It's in tons of interviews & press & we've beaten that horse to death countless times around here in the past.

You don't understand...Knowing the Avett Brothers and what they have done already will lead to you respecting this Album
They showed how diverse and talented they are
I am thinking of those who are hearing Avett for the first time. I am not convinced they are walking away from this, appreciating how far the Brothers have come. They are just like,"whatever...they sound like a group that mixes it up,not bad" Where is the Wow Factor.
Migionette made me go "Wow,I have to hear more", Five years later I am writing comments on their Web Site and Listening to their music everyday. If this had been the first time I heard them, I am not sure the same pattern would have happened as it actually did
i agree with you Tar Heel, Migionette is amazing and all, but listen to the lyrics of Slight Figure of Speech, '" its art ".
