Please Pardon Yourself
I adore this album.

A live performance is a fleeting moment. A recording is a lasting work of art.
Please Pardon Yourself
Swept Away (sentimental)
Being my favorite album of all time (although I & Love & You may soon take over that title) its difficult to pick just one song. However, I'll go with Pretty Girl at the Airport.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.

SSS and Swept Away (sentimental version). I also really like Hard Worker.

I'm like my grandma: short, but I stand tall, playing every card that's dealt to me. Some days are aces, and some days are faces, and some days are twos and threes.
And Nothing Short of Thankful, and At The Beach, and Salvation Song.

So many classics to choose from, but that's easy....
Please Pardon Yourself.
Hate I didn't get to hear it live any this year.

Oh!...What?...A nightmare!
Please Pardon Yourself
The first song I ever heard, and I've been in love ever since!

"one with Earth and one with God"
at the beach because It actually makes me feel like i'm at the beach
I can't possibly pick one all-time favorite!
At the moment, I'm really liking PG from Cedar Lane and Please Pardon Yourself (oh my goodness!), but in a couple minutes, it'll probably be two different songs.
gracious, how can you folks pick just one? i admire your collective decisiveness.
i tried very very hard, and was able to boil it down to just two. they're my desert island songs...couldn't live without them.
please pardon yourself

Swept Away

[ something more to say than 'hello and goodbye, i hope that you're okay' ]
Please Pardon Yourself <---- but i've heard it live only once
Salvation Song is a close second.
(but i loooooove the entire album!)
Please Pardon Yourself, but just 0.0000000001% more than the rest of the songs. It's my favorite album. That's just so I can get in early on the "What's Your Favorite Album" thread.

"The nights only get darker before your sun will shine...leave the clock alone my brother, your enemy is time."
When I moved to Colorado from the great commonwealth of Virginia, it was the summertime, and the only thing that I consistently wanted to do every single day was go to the beach. Of course, Colorado being land-locked, I could not, and none of the locals understood my intense craving for sand and surf. At the Beach was my anthem.
My middle school was on Cedar Lane, so I really love that PG, too.
I also love the last 40 seconds of One Line Wonder and Causey Commentary--they are hilarious, but not really songs.
Wow, this is a near impossible question to answer. I think this is my favorite album by the brothers, so it's a tough call, but I think I'd go with Salvation Song, but it's close call between that and the rest of the whole freakin' album!

And if it compromises truth, then we will go.
Since no one else has mentioned it, I'm gonna go with "A Gift for Melody Anne." But "Salvation Song" is a very close second.
I'm stuck between Signs and Pretty Girl at the Airport.

Am I losing my mind? Am I growing backwards with time?
At the beach is my first favorite Avett Brothers song. Followed by Swept Away (sentimental, I love Bonnie) then Gift for Melody Anne, and SSS. But At the Beach is definitely my favorite.
This is probably my favorite album too, although maybe only just by a teeny tiny percentage, and that's largely due to the fact that it's the first album of theirs I bought.
I love all the songs, but "Swept Away (Sentimental Version)" has the edge for uh....sentimental reasons.

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did we borrow from?
its too hard to pick just 1 but i love airport and cedar lane.

Team Avett #68
"You can say bless your heart before anything... like Bless your heart, you're a Dumbass... "- Jim Avett
i just can't play by the rules when it comes to picking a favorite. i dig Please Pardon Yourself, A Gift to Melody Anne, Salvation Song.
i know i've seen a person or two that have said "well if a gun was to my head i'd pick..."
if a gun was held to my head and i had to pick an all time favorite Avett song, it would be something like this....
" Please Pardon Yourself...wait! maybe At the Beach....ehhhhh, well maybe Tales of Coming News....oh wait!...The Perfect Space....or maybe......."...BLAM!!!!!!
my ass would get shot for sure.

" The day will come, the sun will rise and we'll be fine "
i agree with a lot of people here - this is definitely my favorite Avett album and one of my favorites period.... so its hard to just nail one... but i'd have to say its a close one b/t Gift for Melody Anne and Nothing Short of Thankful

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!
I'll have to go with Pretty Girl At The Airport. It's also at the top of my 'Song I've never seen live' list. Maybe someday I'll see it performed!
--
I wanna live, and I want you to live happy and free
Cedar Lane, but SSS is a close second. I am glad to see many of you mention it also (SSS). I haven't seen either live - maybe Saturday?!
'Causey Commentary' and 'The Day Marvin Gaye Died', respectively.
