FULL CIRCLE- in my classroom today

I'm giving a major test on the Periodic Table today, and one of my students walks in with big news that she found a "really catchy" song about the elements. "Could we please find it on youtube and watch?" I said sure, so I let her look it up.

It was flippin' THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS.

I teach in the same room where I had art in middle school, and we used to listen to TMBG while we worked- we'd sing, etc.

FULL CIRCLE, my friends. FULL.

(There's an entire DVD/CD TMBG put out about science, and I knew that, but hadn't really checked on it. I'm totally using my science budget and ordering it today.)

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different, we love to talk on things we don't know about.

It was awesome!

I don't know why I didn't include the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uy0m7jnyv6U

and- h, thanks about B's compliment! His babysitter took that pic and it's all him. He grins like that all day long!

There's something about TMBG and middle school... they were one of the first contemporary(ish) bands I ever really got into. Anyone brought in Tom Lehrer yet? Eye-wink

Give the love you find until it's gone

We listened to that one last week! My kids were thrown by how fast it was. They still wanted to hear it again and again, though. (Hm, wonder why, listening to music INSTEAD of written work--? Sign me up, too!)

For those who haven't seen that one:

Katie, you have the coolest science class ever.

"Free is not your right to choose, it's answering what's asked of you, to give the love you find until it's gone."

Can I go relive middle school science in your class? All I can remember of my classes from that time is that my teacher had a tree frog tattoo on her ankle/calf and she always wore her socks really high to hide it.

TMBG has always done some nifty "educational" tunes (e.g. "Why Does the Sun Shine" and "James K. Polk") but of late, they've made it a bigger focus. They even do some "family" shows on their tours now.
