I haven't been able to try and play it yet- broken finger still healing.
Which reminds me of my night in the ER a few weeks ago. I asked the doctor "When will I be able to play the banjo?" He said "In three weeks". To which I replied "That's nice- I could never play before..."
Gotten some emails about this thing. I've considered selling it, but it wouldn't be purely for financial reasons. The thing sits under my bed most of the time with the case collecting dust. I don't play much, but even if I did, I'd rather try on something less unique. I'm sure there are Avett fans that would appreciate the thing more than I do. Of course that doesn't mean I'm not a fan (I know that some will view this as blasphemy). In conclusion, I haven't decided what to do yet.
Just put a post on here under tickets or something and let everyone bid on it. That way it'll at least partially ensure a true fan get's it (as opposed to a reseller or a Hard Rock Cafe, actually, that wouldn't be so bad, then we could all go see it). I don't even want to tell you this thing will be priceless someday. I'm going to predict right now that it's worth about $1200 site unseen.
i'm stunned you are selling it! i would have that sucker hung on my music wall...
hey, i have a troy aikman signed, regulation size, football helmut that i have no interest in....how 'bout an even trade???
...ok, i'll also throw in 3 sham-WOWs, a snuggie and a slap-chop thingy!

I know money gets tight, but your nuts for selling this. I would sell organs on the black market before I gave this up. Matter of fact, I think I will sell a kidney to bid on it!!! Message me if willing to negotiate on price.

But their good times come with prices
And I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make
At anyone's expese except their own
Would they laugh if they knew who paid?
It's a $250 banjo, but that's obviously not its real value in this case. Give it to David. He has everything else and is the official keeper of Avett history.

I assume it has an aluminum pot in it. I remember when they were doing the banjo giveaway they said it still had the original strings on it, he must not have played it long.
We all just spent our money on NYE tix, and there are others saving up for Australia/Europe trips next year...I don't think anyone's gonna bite right now. (crazy, huh?)
The banjo would actaully be an upgrade for me, but of course it would only get played once, then hung on my wall for ever and ever and ever and ever.

Hmmmmm.
its not that nice of a banjo, but certainly a gem.
I will give you my first-born child for that banjo. Seriously.

What is the chronological history of this banjo (pre-contest giveaway)?
The banjo would actaully be an upgrade for me, but of course it would only get played once, then hung on my wall for ever and ever and ever and ever.
