Who is singing in the 3rd verse "the wind and the trees are gangin' up on me"... It doesn't sound like Scott or Seth. Is it Bob? Thanks!

does anyone know the meaning of "go to sleep"? I have a couple ideas but wonder if the brothers have ever mentioned what inspired the lyrics?
I think it has something to do with battling demons, for example; drug or alcohol use. Not sure if I just made that up or heard it somewhere. For what it's worth.
I remember hearing something similar to what Erin said. It's about putting to rest any negative part of yourself that you are struggling with.
I love the line "wipe the blood from your face and your hands" ...It's like saying Ok so you you fell down, but you've gotta get back up and start over again. Don't give up the fight.

Well color me happy b/c I thought it was about cannibalism....some guy was lost at sea for 21 days and got so hungry he had to eat one of his friends to stay alive! "Wipe the blood from your face and your hands....Forgive yourself if you think you can"...."I spit a tooth in the palm of my hand".....since he only did it to survive he was really hoping the "people on the ground will understand" then he was going crazy for eating his buddy so he started goin' nuts and thats when the wind and the trees started gangin up on him and singin' his funeral song in harmony. There are a lot of plot holes in my version but.................
Yeah. I've always heard the story of the Mignonette in the the lyrics. Never really gave it much thought beyond that though.
I remember reading somewhere that Scott said the line "lay back, lay back, go to sleep my man" was something his wife would say to him.
As far as the overall meaning in the context of the song I agree with Erin and Ann.
thanks yellow bandit!!! I googled Mignonette a while back and that must have been where I got the crazy notion about that song. You know it would be nice if one of the 4 Avett brothers would just hop on here and clear it up for us all.
