The Greatest Sum

The Greatest Sum

I'm extremely new to the Community and I wanted to post this in Set lists, but it didn't seem right to do that since this is about an up coming show. I'm just curious as to how often The Greatest Sum gets played live. I've only seen The Avett Brothers play once, so I am by no means an expert. And the reason to why I am curious is this. My fiancee and I are getting married on Feb 25th. This is a really fast wedding that we had to make happen a couple of months sooner than we were planning on since she just got a job with the Foreign Service and we will be moving out of the United States in no time flat. A honeymoon is not really in our future, but we are going to see the Avette Brothers in Milwaukee on March 6th and The Greatest Sum is our favorite song (we're having "The Greatest Sum" engraved on the insides of our rings) and it would mean the world for us to be able to hear it live. If anyone has any insight on this, it would be really appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

Its not a common one like paranoia, but they still play it every now and again. When they do play it, its usually played electric like on the bonus track of the second gleam though. They opened with it for the NYE show and I saw them open with it one time when they played with Dave Matthews....and then again at several other shows around the time the second gleam was released. Good luck, hope they play it for ya guys

Keep asking, and ask everyone- email every address you can find. You never know!

Congrats!

(and your comment about your engraving? yeah- made this girl tear up. always a good thing!)

Congrats and welcome.

Like Ouneek said, its not too common but I have seen it a handful of times. Im sure you will get many from the new album tho... Good luck!

Changing the plans that I’ve been setting on
I’m scared by the way that my life is getting gone

just chimming in that the greatest sum is a great wedding song...i like BUT the ring engraving is such a awesome idea....might steal it or something like that IF THAT DAY EVER COMES. Eye-wink

I've heard it live a few times. I wouldn't say it's likely, but definitely possible.

Welcome.

yeah just to echo whats already been said - with the release of I and love and you, you're definitely not "likely" to see it, but thats not to say you won't either... I was fortunate enough to see it the first time they played it electric back in the Spring of 2008, but have probably only heard it about 5-10 times since.....

congrats though and yeah - its definitely a great jam
