Kickass setlist and from what I hear through some friends, an amazing show. PGFMichigan? you know that song has my heart. I also got 3 concert calls and going by those the boys were ON tonight (thanks again Shawna and Melissa, made my night and got me more excited about Charlotte & Atlanta, if that was even possible)
awesome setlist. I was hoping for I Would Be Sad in Charlotte or Atlanta....hope they start playing this more often!
I would be sad was so awesome. I was really wanting that one! Bella Donna, swept Away....fabulous. We were all front row on the rail! My daughter finally got to meet the band, they signed my guitar, I met 2 of my awesome cyber Avett friends and we had a BLAST!
Linda, darling, always know that the girls are thinking of you!!!
John Prine= spanish pipedream
Phenomenal show! We were on the front row as well. I was hoping they would play "Talk on Indolence" just because I wanted to see that manic performance, but still...can't complain at all. They ripped that place apart, and the crowd was into it. Can't wait too see them again!
That is a great setlist! Kindermama, I'm so happy for you and Emmy!
Well, I've been to a lot of shows and have seen both Old Joe Clark and Pretty Girl from [Wherever] several times. I'm pretty sure last night was Pretty Girl from Searcy, not Joe Clark. (just FYI as to why I listed it on the setlist above)
Well last night was fantastic. Right there in front of Seth and just an incredible set list. A highlight was when Seth stepped right to the front of the stage in HFOD and looked down at Melissa, Emmy, Chris, and I and screamed as only he can "Decide what to be and GO BE IT!" Plus we got some incredible Seth screams overall and Scott all over that stage!
Ktpthomas, it is possible that I am recalling incorrectly, but I could have sworn it was OJC. I will have a listen again and compare, as I just heard PGFsomewhere recently as well.
Shawna, EPIC, as you know already. Much love.
Taryn, TY! We were so happy too! She was so cool and engaged. Everyone treated he like a queen. Scott was way into her, and her and Slim were instant buddies! Seth made a special point to yell "BYE EMMYLOU!" before he hopped back on the bus. Darling.
I absolutely stand corrected. Not sure how I got confused, but I will humbly edit my response above
The "Bye Emmylou" was the cutest thing I've ever seen. Scott's interaction with her was just beautiful. What a wonderful man he is.
During the show I saw Jacob just kinda leaning against the wall and it struck me he was only out for a few songs. There were a lot of songs where it was just Scott, Seth, and Bob. That felt really special to me. But when Joe got out there he did kill it! The cello on Swept Away moved me to tears.
And Slim, what can I say? He just might be one of the coolest cats to ever walk the earth. Great performance and sweet as he can be!
I think PGFMichigan also include "Telling Time". Correct me if I'm wrong. It was my first show and was absolutely unreal. I took my sons and friends (teenagers, some of which are metal fans), and they were all impressed. Also, it may be just me, but Slim looks a lot like Paul Westerberg.
PGFMichigan and Telling Time are the same song. It has just been reworked with electric guitar and an easy bluesy piano. I believe folks on the west coast call it "Can You Not See"
This was my first of hopefully many shows! Loved it! I took my 9 year old and he was thrilled to hear Distraction.
Am I wrong or did it seem like there was a lot of down time between songs? Is that typical for their shows, with changing of guitar to banjo etc?
Not a complaint, just after watching Live Vol. 3 on DVD a hundred times, it wasn't what I was used to.
Thanks to Harding for bringing them to all of their fans that can't travel the country to see the Avetts!
No they were having a few technical problems. Scott didn't seem too happy about not starting immediately from what we could see. But he just channeled that energy to the stage. You should have seen his face when the kick drum came apart. Seth also seemed to have some trouble with the electric. They're usually raring to go and instrument switch-off is quick like when they broke strings. Just seemed to have a few hiccups from the start. The new in-the-round mic was on the side ready to go for Murder and maybe Bella Donna but we saw them take it away. I assume because with the technical issues they didn't want to mess with it. That's why they said "I have a feeling we're about to play the set of our lives." They pushed through and gave us a great show!
