Hi. I figure this is an appropriate first post.

I'm Jonathan. I'm 25. I'm a youth minister at an Episcopal church in Montgomery, AL. A buddy I was a counselor with at a summer camp turned me (and basically all the other counselors, and thus about a million campers,) onto the Avetts a couple years back. It's been pretty great since.

My last show was NYE and 3 buddies and I drove up and back and it was a wonderful wonderful way to finish and begin the year.

welcome iwftg!!

My name's Angi and I'm a musicaholic with no interest in rehabilitation.
I joined the military last year & graduated Boot Camp on my 30th birthday
I'm in California now studying a third language (a very humbling task at 30+) and somehow keeping my brain from exploding in the process!
I have a '65 Mustang (currently purple) I'll begin rebuilding when I'm sent to Georgia in the fall.
I'm a sucker for a man in a good hat, my favorite color is green, and I always have a camera with me. Except in the shower. Probably..

eta: I also tend to ramble Sticking out tongue

My name is Julia.

I'm 17, no need to lie, it's a lonely part of the Avett demographic I'm proud to represent

I drive a 77' Volkswagen van (complete with sink and stove)

I am so thankful for my family, they're all beautiful people I wouldn't trade for anything. My dad is a youth pastor and my mom is always staying busy with things school or church related.

I love film/video and plan on majoring in the field at Belmont later this year.

Once a wise, old Indian shopkeeper told me to "Live like mountain", and it has been my motto ever since

I found out last year my journalism teacher is almost as crazy as I am about TAB, which is great because my friends music tastes stink. period.

-Thanks to The Avett Bros. and other board members for making this such a cool place!

I'm Lee from Concord,NC and i'm 30 yrs old. I've been married to my wife Marie for almost 5 months and we have a 2 yr old Basset Hound named Clarence Carter. Right now I am "retired" due to being layed off last month from an advertising sales job, but am on the hunt for something new. I am also Drew52deal's older and better looking older brother.

Well, here goes :

I'm Emma, 20 years young.
Religion major...plan on grad school for urban ministry.
I'm British...and have lived in the US, more specifically Virginia for 7 years now.
I'm quite possibly one of the most musically eclectic people on my campus, haha.
I'm extremely liberal and I believe firmly in peace and love.
and, to sum myself up, I'm going to quote Audrey Hepburn.."I was born with an enormous need for
affection and a terrible need to give it. "

Hey guys!

My real name is Audra. I am a restaurant/business consultant from Indiana. I'm 30 and own my own 'little zoo' as my friends call it. 2 dogs, 1 fish, 3 lizards and 1 step dog. He's my boyfriends hound dog that I keep on the weekends. (Think "my dogs loud and my dogs wild!" ) I love my boyfriend, music, cars and roller derby. My name CR Wrecks, is a play on my favorite car, the Honda CRX. (Yes, I'm a girl and yes I can change an engine! ha)

If there is ever another show in Indiana, I have an open house for any one needing a couch!

Hope to meet everyone at a show this year!

Oh, and you can stalk me here... www.myspace.com/justinandaudra

(From what I hear, Mao likes to stalk! I'm just making it easier for him!! ha

My name is Mitch and I am a 19 year old student at UNC where I am a Journalism and Political Science double major. I currently have a job at Starbucks. I live in a small town near Winston-Salem, North Carolina when I'm not at school. And I will be forever grateful to The Avetts for beginning my love affair with music.

Franklin Street much?! So exciting. What a fun area...Have you ever heard of the International Grapevine? Or The Strugglers?

Great idea, Mark! I like the idea of using real names. Sadly I have yet to meet any of you at shows (I usually have a hard enough time rounding up everyone I know in real life), but here goes :

My name is Ryan. I'm 22 and live in Asheville. I take customer service calls for a credit card company (groan) and like to play music in my bedroom in my spare time. I have a dvd collection large enough to start a small video store, and love my dysfunctional family more than anything.

me llamo Jason. i'm currently in eugene OR at the UO where i'm a senior in political science. i don't have a job at the moment. i play drums for an indie rock trio and guitar in a ska-punk band. i spend most of my time listening to, playing and reading about music which has allowed me to neglect any chance for a reasonable social life or girlfriend but will all be worth it when I make millions in rock n roll, which is inevitable.

My name is Andre. I just turned 24. I live on a beautiful piece of land in central NY with my girlfriend and dog. You are all welcome to stay if you are ever in the area. I play guitar. I have a strong desire to start playing the accordion after seeing jason webley 5 nights. I scuba dive. I love to cook. I love bonfires. I live simply.

Hey Jonathan, I saw you at the NYE show. you were a few rows up from us.

I'm Bill. I'm 37 years old and I'm a cop in southwest MO. I've been married to a beautiful woman and the love of my life for 12 years and we've got a wonderful 13 year-old daughter (yeah, we did things backwards  )

I garden, mostly antique roses and heirloom tomatoes, although I enjoy growing various other plant types as well. If I had more than my 1/3 acre city lot I'd be really dangerous! I maintain a large seedbank of tomato varieties that I disseminate to gardeners free of charge in hopes of keeping the varieties alive. I also dabble in bonsai. I enjoy spending time outdoors in my yard, and recently I've been freezing my butt off digging a 1300 gallon goldfish pond the past few weeks.

My job is filled with negativity, always seeing the worst side of human nature. My garden is my retreat, a chance to see beauty instead of ugliness. The Avett's music further helps me keep my feet on steady ground in a crazy messed-up world, and I'm sincerely grateful that I found them.

Good topic.

My name is Todd.. Im 39 years old and I live in Fountain NC in a resored 1860's sharecropper home. Im married to a wonderful woman named Rebecca and we are expecting our first child in February.. I have two daughters (16 and 14) from a previous marriage who live in Great Lakes Illinois where their step dad is a Company Commander (drill instructor). We have two dogs, Edward Lee a pit mix and Willow Beans a Great Dane puppy of 130 lbs.

Im currently unemployed due to layoffs at the forklift company I worked at for a long time. I dont miss it one bit. Im going to be doing some custom countertops and tables made of reclaimed oak doors found in old farmhouses in my area and be a stay home Dad. Im also a car-a-holic. I have owned more cars than I can remember, but have it pared down to one right now. After we have the baby and our money gets right, Im ordering a Cobra replica and building that. Nothing fancy, primer black with meatballs on the doors, 5.0 and a T-5, maybe a heater and a place to bolt in a baby seat.

Angie; E-Mail me if you need storage for your car if you get sent overseas. I have plenty of space thats dry and secure and would be happy to help you get started on your restoration quest.

alliebennett= Allie Bennett, 22, aspiring photographer/ grant coordinator, Parkersburg, West Virginia.

I don't have a nick name, other than pooter and only my momma has permission to call me that.

I went to Marshall University (of "We Are Marshall" fame) and then Davis and Elkins College and now I work as a grant coordinator against Underage Drinking in my hometown of Parkersburg, I am very blessed to have this job, I work from home and do what I think is best. I don't technically have a boss. I love it mainly because it affords me the time and flexibility to work on the launch of my photography business, alliebphotography.

I have a brand spanking new page that many of you have already seen, but why not share it again.

http://alliebphotography.foliosnap.com

If you need a photographer, I travel.

I got married last February to the one and only BULLETinmyshoulder (Tim) in a courtroom wearing a $3 Goodwill dress that was black. Our reception included taking loved ones to an Everybodyfields concert and then having cake and hordourves at a Brewery, and awesome MR. & MRS. t-shirts but the one and only Anne of Red Canary. It was perfect for us and, no I don't regret not having the white gown. I am too pale for white. hah

I feel as though my simple hello is getting long. If you want to know more, look me up on myspace or facebook, if you are into that sorta thing.

My name is Adam, I am 30, I live in the city of champions... Pittsburgh! I am a nurse. I love the outdoors(hiking, fishing, hunting) I am getting married at the end October to Emily who also loves the Avett brothers. I am tired of living in the city and am currently looking for a house in the country.

I'm Stephanie Knight (effie to my family and some friends). I'm 29 years old and live in tiny Lincoln, Alabama on my family's farm.

Lived in Atlanta for 9 years, but last year decided to get back to my roots.

I work for Verizon Wireless (a tedious and demoralizing job, but I am lucky to have it) and have every intention of moving to the mountains of North Carolina or NYC as quickly as money allows.

I love live music, and my friends usually either refer to me as "the hippie" or "the great-all-knowing-musical-guru" (courtesy of Mellybean).

I am a complete and total pool of nonsense in the presence of a man with an outstanding beard (I'm also single. Wink wink).

Hey Andre! that was a great time! had a little too much New Year's Cheer (the bartender was very, very generous,) but totally worth the long drive home the next day.

I’m Jack. I am a theoretical nuclear physicist and part time professional hand model, living in a tree house high above Thomasville NC. I like Pina Coladas and long walks on the beach.
OK I’ll be honest. I don’t really like Pina Coladas. It’s just something about that coconut flavor that turns me off.

Well my name is Dave Galloway and i am a towering 5' 5" hence the name Wee Dave and many other variations my wonderful friends have come up with over the years

I'm 27 and I live in downtown Greenville SC in an old loft apartment with plenty of character with my awesome 3 year old lab mix Cooper, aka Coop-daddy-flex.

effienite, I quoted you because I work for an Ad Agency that does a ton of work for Verizon Wireless, i thought that was kind of neat.

Cool topic, thanks for starting! I saw someone else mention this so I will too... I'm on the old internet crack that is facebook if anyone wants to track me down there.... Take care everyone!

I also like this topic! My name is Megan (22), and I live in Greensboro, NC with my hound dog named Banjo. Many people in my life will tell you that if it wasn't for the Avetts, my dog would have a different name Sticking out tongue! I graduated from East Carolina University last May with a BS in political science (I know the there's jokes in that, I've heard them and made them myself) and a minor in security studies. I'm currently looking for employment, and my most certain long-term goal in that area is to feel like I'm doing some good in this world. I like to read, and my favorite author is Robert Morgan. I like the beach, road trips, FOOTBALL, cooking for others, and spending time with my friends and family. I'm willing to go anywhere within a 3 hour driving radius to see the Avetts (sometimes farther, if I'm feeling particularly desperate for a fix Eye-wink), and my family will never understand it.

On a side note, I'm originally from Harlingen, Texas, and if you find yourself there, turn around, because you're probably lost, and it's been scientifically proven that the town was built directly over hell.

There are many other people on this board that I would like to meet in person!

As my uber-creative user name suggests, my name is Kate.

I am 20 years old and live in Chicago.

I am a junior at Columbia College majoring in Performing Arts Management.

I work at a dog bakery and can't wait to own my very own French bulldog in the future.

I am a recent Avett fan of less than a year, and have been to 4 shows.

In attempt to do some networking, if anyone works in the music business, let me know! Eye-wink

How exactly does one go about baking a dog and what do they taste like? Is a French Bulldog better tasting than, say, an English Bulldog?

My Great Dane, Willow, is needing an answer to this because I told her if she didnt stop carrying her brother Eddie around by his neck, I was going to send her to your Dog Bakery.

Sticking out tongue:tongue:

dang, i knew the second after i posted "dog bakery" someone would make that terrible joke. congrats! Smiling

Even though I never post on here because lurking is more fun..

I'm Alyx (that's how it's on my birth certificate - I swear) and I'm 20. I was born and raised in sunny south Florida but I've lived in Chicago for the past three years. I just graduated from Columbia College with a bachelors in journalism, although I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. I used to work at the aforementioned dog bakery with kateb (my spectacular roommate), but I'm currently unemployed and completely okay with it. I don't know what I want to do with my life so if you have any suggestions, send them my way!

It really is a wonderful area. I absolutely love it.

I had not heard of International Grapevine or The Strugglers, but I MySpaced them to see if either one rang a bell, and I really liked what I heard of The Strugglers. Definitely gonna have to check out more of both of them.

Hello *looks around the room for any suspicious looking individuals... and continues* there.

My name is Sam. I'm from Statesboro, GA hence boroblues (Blind Willie McTell, Allman Brothers, anyone? anyone? Bueller?) I graduated from UGA with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 2006. I then got a 6 month work visa and moved to London, UK where I found a job working in a pub. I met some amazing, amazing people while there who I continue to stay in touch with.

I now live in Savannah, GA - beautiful, historic city. Mossy oak trees and SCAD hipsters abound. I'm lucky in the fact that I have a job (got hired about 3 months back) and that I happen to love it. I work for a small and growing company - Savannah Bee Company - we sell all kind of quality bee products - from honey and honey comb to lip balm and body butter, hmmmm. Here's our site - http://www.savannahbee.com/ -

To the folks who have recently graduated and are having trouble finding a job, my advice - TRAVEL - there are always jobs available in the service industry which you can find while nomading about. There's a whole world of wonderful people out there - go meet some.

edited to add - my avatar is a photo of Tom Waits.

I'm Jennifer, I live and work in DC--I work at a student travel agency, and actually started with this company in Chapel Hill (but originally from MD.)
First heard TAB in July, 2007, but didn't get really into them until this year after my cousin sent me some discs and then it all sort of snow-balled. I've gotten to meet a bunch of people from the boards recently at shows and it's been great--TAB fans are awesome--looking forward to meeting more of you this year!

Well, I'm a relatively new Avett fan. My name is Barbara. I'm 21 and just graduated from Wheaton College, which is in a suburb of Chicago. Now I'm back home in Dixie (TN to be exact) and working for my dad.

My real claim to fame is that while at Wheaton my roommate was none other than HONDO's daughter. Obviously she's the one who got me into the Avetts (though it took a live show to formally convert me).

Oooh! Thanks, and good lookin' out we'll def be in touch!
(Wanna help me pick paint colors? When I get around to it, I'm definitely customizing it, no stock geeking out here!)

/threadjack

Hello everyone. My name is Doug and I live in Pelham, Alabama (just outside of Birmingham). I'm 30 years old and got married last May to my beautiful wife. I work for a company that develops software for financial institutions to monitor potential fraudulent activity. I enjoy it b/c I get to travel all across the country w/ the job, so it's great seeing wonderful, new places.

It's been interesting reading about all of you and I hope to meet many of you at future Avett shows!

I'm John. I live in Montevallo, Alabama (south of Birmingham). I am 30 and have been married for nearly 7 years. My wife is 7 1/2 months pregnant, so there will be another little Avett fan here in a month or so. I work at the same software company where Bham Avett Fan works. I also enjoy the travel with work (for the most part). The best part about the travel has been seeing some great live music in other parts of the US over the past year that I otherwise would not have been able to see. Highlights in '08 were TAB in NYC and Chicago, and Langhorne Slim in San Francisco and DC. I have enjoyed meeting several board members over the last couple of years at various shows. I find most Avett fans to be genuinely good people.

I graduated from Talladega High School in '96. I'm sure we have mutual friends. Lincoln isn't nearly as tiny as it used to be since the Honda plant moved in.

Hi, I'm Matt
17 i guess that makes me a young'un by this board's standards.
I live in Charlotte NC.
I'm hoping to attend UNCW next fall.

As one of my heroes, Steve McQueen, once said, "You cant go wrong with British Racing Green on anything."

Coupe or Fastback?

Aw, this is fun. OK, I'm Heidi, 32. I moved to New York City just about a year ago. I'm an attorney/legal analyst. My job basically consists of lots of legal research and writing as I create content for a major legal research tool.

Things I don't like include stupidity, ignorance, poor grammar and people that walk slowly on city sidewalks. Things I like: music, books, movies, college basketball, boxing, New York, my job, my family, my friends and above all laughing and being in love.

My boyfriend and I have been together about 10 months, and he's responsible for introducing me to the Avetts. As silly as it may sound, they have been a big part of our relationship....mostly because when we can't quite get our acts together to express how we feel, it seems there is an Avett song that manages to put it together for us.

It's been nice to read/participate in the Avett message board. I feel like I know some of you already and hope to meet up with more of you at a show somewhere down the line....

Well my name is Tim and I am married to Allie. You can read her post and gather some info on me. I tend to make myself older than I really am. Im a big kid at heart. I am an X-ray Tech. by trade but it is just something to do so Allie and I can have fun. I love my family, music, art, painting, and playing chapstick trivia in line at concerts. I drive a muscle car (Toyota Prius Hybrid). Im a sucker for M&M's, Cheetoes, great beer, and coffee but not all at the same time. I would love to have a show on the Travel channel or Food TV. Well thats about it. I know there is more but who really wants to know that much about me?

Bill, I just discovered a magazine in the dentist waiting room, that I thought was the strangest thing ever. Covers two topics that I did not see going together AT ALL. However, now that I know you're a gardening cop, maybe I should send you a subscription to . . .(are ya'll ready for this?) . . .

Garden&Gun Magazine.

ha ha (for the guy who's always packin' heat in the garden)

My name is Melanie. I'm Melly in real life only to my Mama, Effienite, and her beautiful little boy, Elijah. I am 32 years young, and I currently live in South Florida. My husband and I are about to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, and we have two of the greatest kids on the planet -- Evan will be 10 in a few months (yep, we did things backwards, too), and Avery will be 8 this summer.

I am a fairly recent transplant to South Florida, from Atlanta, and I miss home somethin' awful. When I say home, though, I'm referring to the south in general. My parents are retired and living in the mountains of western North Cackalackee, and I hope to make my home in NC as soon as possible. My husband is the Executive Chef of McCormick & Schmick's seafood restaurant, and they are slated to open a store in Greensboro in 2010 (with a handshake promise that it will be ours). I'm putting all the good mojo I can muster out into the universe so that we can make that move a reality. I want to buy a nice little house in the woods somewhere (on a little land, so effienite can live there too), and live there until my grandkids are comin' to visit me.

Stephanie (effienite) is my best friend in the whole world (other than Michael), and she will never know just how much I love and admire her (but shhhh, don't tell her).

I am an only child, I'm married to my high school sweetheart, the love of my life, and my very best friend. We're both 32 years old, and we've been together for 17 years!!. My only true goal in life is to have fun, be a good wife, and raise healthy, brialliant, totally freakin' cool kids who grow up to be even cooler grownups. Evan and Avery are how I plan to make my mark on this world. So far, I think I'm doin' all right -- we'll see how I feel about them when my daughter hits 13.

P.S. I have said this before, but I want to again extend an open invitation to come crash at my house in S. Florida anytime you like. It is pretty much sunny and 75 here all the time, and a little birdie told me there's a pretty great music festival coming here in March. Sticking out tongue

okay, i can play at this! real name Kevin, just turned 50 (and feel old reading these posts- glad i don't act my age!) live in SE pennsylvania (an hour from Philly), work as an environmental educator and sometimes writer. I LOVE NOTHING MORE than seeing Avett shows with my beautiful wife michelle, and our wonderful daughter (guess you know her name), age 11.
also enjoy wildlife gardening, bird watching and coaching girls' softball. i am thankful to have met sarah and dan, Ricker from Bend, enjoicashwell, bonefish and dawn, novemberbluegrass and his crew, and some other fine board members. hope to meet many more of you down the road! here's to some shows in the northeast states in 2009. Cool

Hey there! I'm Taryn, I'm 21, originally from New Jersey, but going to school in Ithaca, New York. I absolutely love it here. I'm in my third year at Ithaca College studying Environmental Studies and Writing (jesssdad? I see your career is similar to my path, haha). Just to clarify, Hayduke is not my real last name, but rather the name of a character in Ed Abbey's "The Monkey Wrench Gang," which is quite a book. My real last name is Hubbard, and I too am an avid facebook user, so feel free to find a new friend on there.

Sometimes I work at a daycare and in a month or so I should be helping get a Sustainable Charter School started here in Ithaca, which I'm super excited about. My friends and I also plan to start an organic garden on campus, so I hope to be gardening all spring & summer. I currently live in a really crappy apartment, but next year my house has a wood stove, which I'm incredibly excited about.

I like hiking, camping, music, reading, playing, writing, walking places, food (all the time), drinking tea, taking naps, and watching deer. When I'm out of school I want to build a house in the mountains and have a goat.

I absolutely adore all of my Avett friends. I spent a week staying with a bunch of them, I've met others at shows, and I've waited in line for hours upon hours with them--and I would not trade these experiences for anything (not even the goat). I have a lot of wonderful people in my life, family (hey mom!) and friends, and I feel very lucky to have this life.

David from New Bern (almost coastal), NC.

55 years young and married to my beautiful Jr. High school sweetheart for 33 beautiful years.

We have an awesome son, daughter, son-in-law and a 7 week old golden retreiver; Maddie. My son introduced me to The Avett Brothers at Merlefest, 2005. He did not realize what a monster he was creating. I payed it forward by getting my daughter and son-in-law hooked.

Work as a Sales and Operations Planner

Enjoy surf fishing, vegetable gardening and playing guitar and mandolin with our church praise band. In addition to our favorite band I am partial to old time Appalachian mountain music and the older gospel tunes. So, guess what my favorite new album is.

The older I get the less I enjoy negativity.

Cool

That is so SUPER WEIRD! I graduated Lincoln in '97 and went to the UNIVERSITY OF MONTEVALLO! Strange...

When Evan and Avery were really little, they attended a sustainable montessori school in Athens, GA called Waseca. It was my favorite place ever -- broke my heart to take them out of that school. The kids (all under age 10) participated in the growing of all the vegetables, the raising of the chickens (and harvesting their eggs), and the milking of the cows. They even had a few goats. Cool

It was funded purely by donations from the parents and other members of the community, and they earned extra money selling the vegetables, eggs, and milk that wasn't used in the school at a local farmers market every week.

I am forever grateful to the life long lessons Waseca was able to teach my kids at such an early age. Kudos to you for being involved in such an endeavor.

Mel-- that sounds so awesome! What a beautiful way to raise beautiful children. The school I may work (ehhh... intern) for is going to be a high school that is starting this coming fall. I'm very excited about it. Although I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet!

Also, I saw you were going back to school! That is awesome! Congratulations!
