If you like the Avetts, you might also like....

I know this has been a thread multiple times before, but I just found another band that definitely fits the bill and just had to share them with you guys.

They are called Greenland is Melting and they give an air of early Avett Bros. for all you long-term fans. You can stream their album or download the whole thing here:

Post any other bands you've discovered you think Avett fans might enjoy!

Cool. I like what I'm hearing!

Cool! I just downloaded them and put it on my ipod. I'll listen to it tonight. Thanks, sounds good so far, well, the little preview I just listened to while I was downloading it anyways..Smiling

Downloading now. More recommendations, please, from anyone.

Rolling Stone recently did a write up on the country rock/bluegrass wave, listing The Avetts at the top. My copy of the mag is at home, so I can't remember all the artists they list as worth listening to. I remember J. Tillman from Seattle (who I believe plays drums in another band when he isn't doing his solo thing). The rest escapes me now, but I'll post them later. I will say I visited the website/myspaces for all of the artists listed. Nothing grabbed me like the Avetts do. There were some honorable mentions (but apparently not too memorable)!!

I have no selfish memorandum...no confusion for me.

dude, i'm really diggin' it, thanks!!!!

i don't know how new you are but here are some good ones that have been discussed on here:

Old Crow Medicine Show
Holy Ghost Tent Revival
Dr. Dog

Well of course HGTR is all over these boards. They have played several times with The New Familiars. They are kind of a "Newgrass" / Jam Band hybrid. Very good live!

yeah - gotta second The New Familiars and they are from Charlotte, NC - which is pretty Bad A if i say so myself... haha

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

Thanks for the recommendations, buds. Some I knew, some are new. I love exploring it all! I'll post Rolling Stone's picks tonight when I'm home.

Devil Makes Three... Really digging their sound!

Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside... must listen!

Also might want to check out Hoots and Hellmouth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sC2N95PHwxE

You've gotta love it when a band brings in their own plywood floors for percussion Smiling

Yonder Mountain String Band also. Kind of like a Bluegrass Jam-band. They call it "Jam-grass". I saw them in Raleigh a few years back and they were a lot of fun. They also played the big stage at Bonnoroo in '08. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERjlLEHlltQ

"I'm a little nervous 'bout what you'll think when you see me in my swimming trunks."

Chatham County Line is a pretty good Blugrass band that have the Old Crow and Yonder Mountain feel...

I would also have to mention "The Gourds" cause if you can turn a snoop dogg song into bluegrass, I give you mad props!!!!

thanks for sharing everyone. a few band I really enjoy:

Band of Horses
Ryan Bingham
Dan Auerbach

I just put up a Carolina Chocolate Drops post in the General Discussion.
They are definitely worth a listen and live show.

Yeah I just bought a ticket to see Carolina Chocolate Drops on the 19th. I only just checked them out yesterday. I'm excited.

"I need HEEEEELP!
But I'm on it. I'm on it."

Love the Drops.

"Though no match for what lies between the thought of you, your trust for me."

I love The Roseline. Great bunch of guys from Lawrence, Kansas.
Good country sound, not too twangy or overbearing, good message.

Their myspace is their website, but they have some great tunes up.

Thanks for the tip on The Roseline. Found two albums dirt cheap over at amiestreet.com. Like what I've heard so far.

I'll see you in the morning time.

Hey everyone, Will from Greenland is Melting here, just wanted to give a huge thanks to anyone who gave us a listen. We're humbled to be compared to a group like the Avetts, who are, clearly, huge influences on us. It means a lot to a small band like us to get listens from strangers, and we really appreciate it. Also thanks to anyone who paid for our album (FREE is a PERFECTLY valid option!), and the almighty gas tank thanks you for it's meals!

Greenland...I got your album yesterday and have listened to it three times so far in its entirely. Already singing along to a few tunes. And you're in Gainesvill! Hot damn! I'm in Orlando so I'll see you at a show soon!

Please check out Those Darlin's...a chick band currently in Nashville (boy drummer). Cutie pies that carry guitars bigger than themselves, wearing cowboy boots and packing big talent. I'd LOVE to see THEM open for TAB. Here's a recent vid they shot, but check out their live performances:

Also, check out Deer Tick.

Here's a tongue in cheek song co-written with Those Darlin's (but watch some of the original songs on YouTube):

Greenland is Melting is definitely on my radar. See ya guys when you play in the triangle...Local 506 perhaps.

The Low Anthem
Cordoroy Road
.357 String Band

And though he's nothing like the Avetts, check out Unknown Hinson vids on Youtube. Another NC guy (Albemarle/Charlotte) who is a trip.

Track # 9 on that Greenland is Melting album is one of new favorite songs! Good stuff!

--
"I'm a little nervous 'bout what you'll think when you see me in my swimming trunks."

#2 for me. No more sorry songs.

The singer sounds like Caleb from The Kings of Leon on that one. Good stuff, indeed.

Harmony--Those Darlins opened for the boys in Indianapolis in April of last year. Good stuff, though they might want to look into a good bra or two.

Nate--I second those recommendations. Especially the Low Anthem. Can't get enough of them right now.

Team Avett #36

lildeadhead: that pen she uses to keep her setlists? it's a human-finger bone. dipped in the blood of the ones who yell out during "murder in the city". poetic, no?

I am currently listening to Levon Helm's "Electric Dirt". It sounded very Avett to me. And of course "Band"ish.

Having heard the album in its entirety at least 4 times, I must say that I'm now hooked on Greenland is Melting.
wyson- I agree with your Caleb comment- I thought the same exact thing. In fact, a few tracks, "Already Gone" especially, the vocals and lyrics remind me of Kings of Leon of yesteryear, almost like a discarded track off of their Youth & Young Manhood or Aha Shake Heartbreak albums

Thanks again for all the love everyone. Funny you should say that Jamesyboy, our cover of Wicker Chair is one of the tunes we played at nearly every show when we were first starting out, Kings of Leon is a band favorite!

We'll be in North Carolina in May for RadFest (Wilmington), and will surely try to book shows anywhere that will have us (this means Charlotte if you have any tips on venues!). We love NC, and will jump at any excuse to drive up there.

Greenland Is Melting,
That's Awesome! I'm sure you guys do an AWESOME job with that song.

And you should try booking a show here in Rochester NY. I could see you guys playing at the Water Street Music Hall.
And you could guarantee that I would be at that show.

i thought i would drop a few band names yall might like: Hotel Spangler, Crowfield, Griffin House and these other solo artists which typically can be downloaded free and legally a noisetrade.com include Joel Rakes, Andy Gullahorn and one of my new favorites Matthew Mayfield- an amazing song writer from Birmingham. Bebo Norman is cool too

jon foreman's solo stuff is a must have and the new NEEDTOBREATHE cd The Outsiders

michael ford jr and the apache relay is really good too. also, mumford and sons

--
decide what to be and go be it.

I like Bebo, too, Jantzen! His voice is smooth and soothing.

Harmony: J. Tilman's other band is the Fleet Foxes who are great if you get a chance to listen to them also my graveyard jaw and the infamous string dusters who sound alot like yonder mountain

Any 6 String Drag/ Kenny Roby fans here?

Am enjoying Greenland thanks for the recommendation-listened to a few of the tracks and enjoying what I'm hearing.

Do the best you can and that wont go unseen

Checked out the band Farewell Drifters. Decent band, not as good as the Avetts though
