I'm guessin' the "baseball bat" is a cover of "Magazines" by The Everybodyfields. I love the Avett version of that song!
That's a dream set list of mine....
Is this in order? Because this is a very strange arrangement in the set.
Just got home...
Looks like he missed Tinman after Paranoia and after that was the new song "If I live the life I'm given... (!!!!)
The rest of it is in order.
Seth came out w/ Scott for Murder. Just the 2 of the, and Scott's guitar.
David Mayfield did Slight Figure of Speech w/ them. There was also a Bob/Jacob jam out after Kickdrum.
PGF Michigan was done AFTER the encore w/ the house lights on, after stomping and screaming and chanting "michigan". I guess here in Michigan, we're a determined crowd. We wanted that song, we got it. Scott did say give a "big thank you" to the venue opererators for giving them permission to come out and do that song.
I was at a loss for words at that point. I've never seen something like that happen at any show before.
Amazing, amazing night.
I agree. That was an amazing show! I have seen second encores before, but never one with the house lights on.
Big Thanks to TAB
Wowza. Im lovin' the mix up with this show. Murder first! and then salina! I would've been crying then screaming then jumping... then more sobbing. Happy for those folks that got to go! Good to see some new songs on the list. Exciting!
The third song was an everybodyfields cover, as someone said. They had a new backdrop, which appeared during Sally's Lover. Seth threw in "It's been snowing all day" for In The Curve, which cracked me up because I white-knuckle drove through lake-effect snow for three hours to get to the show. SFOS and Laundry Room was the first encore and yes, that second encore was entirely unplanned. House lights on, house music on, and people just refused to stop cheering and go home. I've only ever seen one other band do that (Wilco during their 2008 Residency,) and it was amazing. The whole night was amazing. In fact, the people at the Oxford English Dictionary should probably invent a word to describe how awesome last night was.
Amazing, fantastic, awesome, beautiful, super-fun way to kick off the 2011 season.
Thank you, Avetts!
Just lost my whole post....urgh....
This was an awesome show! The Murder opener was shocking! I got a couple of great shots of Scott and Seth singing together. Very sweet.
I was very happy to hear the NYE bust out song, which I like to call Black Cloak lol. It was so lovely and I sang along to every word, as I have listened to it so many times this month. A friend asked Joe last night if there was a working title, he said yes, but that he wasn't allowed to say lol.
This show was so great- can't wait for tomorrow!

I was using my new camera and thought I was recording, but I wasn't... lesson learned. So that's the second half of In the Curve. Still thought it was good enough to upload.
So I have renewed thankfulness for the people that get tons of video.
I'm going to try to get lots more video in South Bend. It really is harder than it seems to get video at a show, takes a lot of patience and will power not to jump around
If anyone has video from last night, I'd LOVE to see it.
Also wanted to add that the guys were just so damn happy last night. Not to say that they've seemed unhappy at past shows I've seen, but they were just radiating pure happiness.
Small example: after the line "came the thought to hurt myself", Seth said "nonsense!" and just smiled.
No one's mentioned David Mayfield Parade, so shout out to them. They were great. And funny. Very entertaining. I'll be listening to them a lot more now.
Blaire I took several vids but forgot to bring my camera cord so i will have to wait until Monday to upload.
Totaly agree- they were so happy last night! There was great energy in that room. It was very intimate.
Just reviewed my vids. Horrible. Hopefully we will get some good ones tomorrow
Quite possibly the best energy I've seen at any of their shows, and that's saying a lot. I don't have one complaint. All love.
I'll defininetly get video tomorrow. I've recruited my friend (who doesn't dance) to help out. It's a tough choice; dance/clap/sing, no video... or vice versa.
Let me join in the chorus of accolades. Sublime experience. Standing out in the cold for two hours to meet Seth and Scott was worth every freezing, shivering minute.
Even after hearing from so many fans here and at shows how down-to-earth and "present" they are when meeting with fans, I was totally unprepared for how intimate those couple of minutes talking to each of them was. They're as sincere and kind as anyone I've ever met. And yes, I can say that with confidence, despite how brief our meeting was.
It was also a real treat to meet so many other fans like Kindermama and Ben. Lots of love out there last night!

.....Hi all....its been a bit since I've been on the boards, great reason to come back tho with the kalamazoo show under our belts (joshuas 4th show). Brought 4 first timers who were of course, all blown away. Observations from what I can recall two days later.
My arms still hurt from holding/dancing w/josh most of the night.
The kid can sleep. Out like a light througbh the whole thunderous crowd urging the boys to come back for a second encore with house lights up and aftershow music playing (though no one could hear it)
David Mayfield can shake his ass. Literally. And well.
Not sure if dave is a better musician or showman. He is seemingly a virtuoso on the guitar and could also do standup comedy. @ one point it looked like he did the queen anne salute with his git whilst playing. In tune.
Scott and seth couldn't help but smile from ear to ear from the adulation showered upon them as they took the stage for the tour kick off song Murder in the City. Seth almost looked embarrassed, I know I would be.
When introduced, Joe got a tremendous ovation.......then scott teased him about remembering to bring him in the nick of time or joining the dave mayfield parade or somethin to that effect.
The everybody fields cover was good. Got vid.
The new song was even better (phenom actually) got vid.
Denouncing was slow for t the most part, reminiscent of the slowed down travelin song. I blame the natural loss of testosterone in males as they age.
Never heard a crowd as loud as we were to get a band back out.
Never seen a band come back after the houselights came on.
Seth looks so much better without the trucker stache, though I still miss the flowing hair/short bearded jesus look.
Yes, my man-crush is currently on seth for those ladies interested. I would still like to be minaturized and be carried around in his front change pocket all day thank you very much.
So glad they talked the authorities into letting them play one more or we would not have got to hear the only song I requested all night.......speaking of which........
Travis looks great, got a great Kzoo poster (tho he would not hold onto it - my how the times are a changin) but more importantly they had hankerchiefsgbandanas that were blue and had the avett brother logo emblazened over a pic of the great state of Michigan!! The I and love and you track listing was around the outside. O, and I also picked up an avett beltbuckle.
Could not wait outside to say hi to our friends as it was already really late w/little one and we still had to drive back to grand rapids. Darn, I didn't get my new banjo signed (old one was STOLEN!!) Nor did I get my poster or copy of fretboard journal autographed. Small pittance for an overall ferociously incredible night. Josh and I will see y'all the next time the boys come round.....
Never heard a crowd as loud as we were to get a band back out.
Never seen a band come back after the houselights came on.
Same here on both counts. I don't think I've ever seen any band do a LEGITIMATE encore performance before this show. I could see one of the people working for the venue yelling "No, that's it!" and making somewhat angry gestures from the other side of the stage as they came back out for the last song. Great night and great seats. I picked up a couple of tickets from a seller on this board (thanks again, YurpleBliss) and my friend and I rode down to the show with a couple of her friends from nearby Caledonia. 'Twas the first show for all four of us, and the couple that we went with couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, despite only meeting us for the first time that day. Sixth row, just off center. Not a bad spot for one to catch their first show.
Speaking of seats, I believe we were sitting just behind you, Chris. Were you and Josh wearing the shirts with #74 on the back? He's a cute kid. My friend was remarking about that on several occasions that night.
Chrisvant- EXCELLENT recollection of Thurs night. You nailed it.
PS. I'm the girl that came up to you after the show and told you I love Josh's youtube vids.
"I would still like to be minaturized and be carried around in his front change pocket all day thank you very much."
This is a brilliant idea, Chrisvant, and I would like to join you in that pocket please.
It took about three attempts, but I finally got my video of "Murder in the City" up on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=du13N5rXFZo
Yes, that's me screaming "Seth Avett" and whistling with that piercing whistle.
I'm sure that whistle bothered some folks from time to time, but my wife is convinced it was the key to getting them back on stage. It is VERY loud.

Aerix- thank you so much for uploading that and sharing. Made me grin like an idiot, again, watching Seth with that huge smile on his face when he came out. And throughout the whole song, really. It seemed to set the stage for that night. Just happiness and joy.
Here's another one: "And It Spread":

Anybody get the new song? The one with the line "If I live the life I'm given I won't be scared to die"? I asked them about it after the show, and it doesn't have a name yet. But they were working on it in the studio!

"I would still like to be minaturized and be carried around in his front change pocket all day thank you very much."
Absolutely. This is my new philosophy on life. I just screamed a little SETH AVETT!!! with you when I watched the video. Thanks for sharing it. My heart is just full of joy at reading all the threads on the new shows. I just can't wait for my next one!
So glad i was able to make the trip up form Indy...it had been exactly 11months to the day since my last show and i needed thisit more than i could ever explain. To be able to dance and sing and scream and smile and jump up and down was a gift and has recharged and revived me until next...hopefully sooner ratehr than later
Chrisvant, I'm impressed with how well you laid out the night. It really was a hell of an experience.
By the way, were you the cool dad with the cute kid a few rows in front of me with the matching shirts? I mentioned this on another thread, but I was insanely jealous that my dad was never that cool.
First show 3rd row left. Words can not describe. I'm glad I'm from Kalamazoo than Ann Arbor. I bet they will be back to Kalamazoo. My throat still hurts.
Hey, folks, I just posted the lyrics (as best I could make them out) for the "New Years Eve Song," the new one they played that night. Here's the thread.
Beautiful song. I've been playing it this evening on my guitar (chords to be posted soon).
