Ok so I am a little distressed about Joe Kwon not being in ALL press pics at this point. He is a member of the band now. I have seem a bunch of recent group shots without him. I know the other guys have nothing to do with this. It's the jerk reporters. Fans are pulling for you Kwon! Just wanted to see what other Avett fans thought.

They have always said he is an important member of the Avett family but that the Avett Brothers are Scott, Seth and Bob.

It’s more fun than a week at Betty Ford.
I could be completely wrong, but the way I understood it was that Joe "tours" with them only. I thought this meant he isn't there when they record, so not exactly a full member of the band. (But still loved and appreciated!)

I could have sworn I heard that Joe laid the cello down on both emotionalism and I&L&Y.
Regardless, Joe rocks. It's all semantics anyways. If I got to rock out on stage with the brothers 100+ nights a year, you could call me whatever you want.
Joe is incredible. A great addition to recording AND touring. He brings an incredible presence and sound to the live shows. That being said, he is not an official band member, as Sunday said. I believe Joe himself, has said he is not at all concerned with his position or having equal billing. He loves what he does, they love him, we love him. He is completely accepted as a member,just not in an official capacity, which could possibly be from more of a business standpoint. I believe the crew is nearly every bit as important and vital to the success of the band, but I don't think they will be showing up in press pictures. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

I heard Scott introduce Joe at a show one time last year as "our touring and recording partner" or something very similar. People are always coming to Joe's defense (which is nice,) but as those above me said it so eloquently, I think it's all working out just fine for all involved.

Thanks for all the replies. I have not ready any articles that there was an arrangement. Thanks for that insight and it makes more sense knowing that.
