Lantern Fest 2010
Lantern Fest 2010
Posted: Friday, January 1, 2010 - 13:16
Thanks everyone for joining us for the lantern fest last night. Much to everyone's surprise, the city of Asheville is still standing, and was not burned to the ground. I hope everyone had a good time, and we'll have to do it again sometime!
Hopefully pictures/videos will start showing up here after everyone gets back home tomorrow.

Pics from The Great Coffee Bomb Incident are in there as well. Please direct all questions about said incident to Angi.
If you can't see the pics, you may have to add me as a friend on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/reiggin
I'll try to get them onto Flickr later. Gotta go to work right now!

The Avetts are a rare talent, timeless yet current, and capable of singing straight to a single soul while broadcasting to the ever-increasing masses.
A great time was had by all! Thanks again Blasto!
Also, I'm glad to hear that Asheville is still standing!
See y'all tonight at the Fox...

I am so sad that we missed this. We all had a battle with the flu earlier in the week and took it easy on NYE. We were afraid of not getting enough rest for the ATL show. Super cool of you to do this, Blasto. Maybe next year!
so sad i ended up missing this too. the pictures look great, but who's got the video? (angi?) did anyone catch my husband almost lighting people on fire (please, please, please say yes!)
Say yes, say yes, say yes!
Uh...yes! I just started editing. Will have at least some of these uploaded by tomorrow afternoon, hopefully.
yeah! i knew i loved you for more than your explosive personality!
Explosive! Haha! I can't wait to see these videos. It was so wonderful to meet all of you this past week. Truly some of the nicest, most agreeable people I have ever met. I would expect no less from the Avett Nation!
Good times. Nice to meet all you guys. Great bunch of folks. The lanterns were incredible.
A little highlight for me was seeing the guy leaning out a car window, who had followed the lanterns to the house.
As Amanda and I were walking away he drove by and said "Hey do you know where the...OHHHHHH!!! There they are!!!!" and then they sat on a hill across the street and watched them fly.
Glad everyone made it home safe. See you all soon.
Cheers.

Things change and get strange with the movement of time, it's happening right now to you.
It was tons of fun--will post some pics on Facebook soon--an a video with my annoying voice telling everyone to "wait just 20 more seconds!" when we tried to get 5-6 off at once. glad that we narrowly escaped death a few times and am shocked that no person, tree, or house was burned.
Thanks again for hosting, Blasto!

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.
Lori and I both missed out on this.
She was beat and my back was killing me. It was so nice meeting everyone. Avett Nation, you are truly the most wonderful people we have been around. I feel as though we had to leave family behind when we left the next morning. Can't wait for the next opportunity to spend time with you guys.
We came for family.....
Bob, it was nice meeting you and your wife at dinner in Knoxville. I too missed out on the fun at the lantern fest, as I fell asleep at the motel... I was exhausted from standing all day
I actually got burned. But only a little bit. A dollop of the burning cardboard liquefied or something and dropped onto my wrist. The blister is almost gone though and no hair got singed. Totally worth it.

oh, except that, Jonathan. sorry! glad it wasn't too bad--let's face it, a few trees came VERY close, not to mention Ryan's house. it was the saucy red ones....

Speaking of which, Angi has upped a video of the event! The couple of close calls with the red ones are in here :

haha, no worries Jen, like i said, I lived to tell the tale. those red ones really were saucy. or confused and defiant. I'm really surprised we kept missing the powerlines.

Why is the video private? You guys were wearing clothes?

Rejoice always, Mark
Oh, whoops. Didn't realize that was the case. Maybe Angi is waiting to put finishing touches (ie, background music to cover our banter) before making it public. Sorry to tease you guys!
ooh, this video is private. i have a youtube account, but don't do much with it- how do i go about friending Angi there so i can see it (if that's what you have to do?)

here is one I took--if we're FB friends, you can watch it. http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=407419915542
My commentary is annoying and I apologize.

folks were definitely wearing clothes. it was completely freezing, at least for this thin-blooded southerner.

Angi herself did have a moment during the show where she was wearing considerably less clothing than any of the other people in attendance.*
But I believe during the Lantern Fest, she managed to keep her pants on.
*I'm so gonna get a coffee carafe bomb left on my doorstep for this.

I'll be editing mine to cover up the scary loud dialogue, but it is kind of funny in the meantime, I suppose. Clickity click I made it semi-private so the whole world can't see and hear our ridiculous, but if you click via this link, you should definitely be able to view it.
Also, Reiggin, I don't know what you're talking about.
red always means trouble...
....as does coffee.
HeHe! She said coffee!

"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
Yeah, reiggin, I don't know what you're talking about, either. There's no way Angi managed to keep her pants on!
...and now I await my porchside coffee bomb as well.
Ang, that's a great video. Brings it all right back, the fire, the late night deliriousness after standing for 10 hours, the thrill of not knowing if the fuzz where going to bust us or if we were going to burn Asheville or at least Blasto's house to the ground- beautiful.
